OWK was made in honor of their first born.

Right but don’t they now call the base recipe for that special beer the OWK recipe?

I saw that too, but MBC doesn't seem to have a lot 'traffic' these days. Certainly not when compared to Facebook. I don't have Facebook so I can't comment personally that I've seen ~$5k selling point, but my friends that do have Facebook have mentioned that it has sold in the past between $4k-$5k and that Facebook in general is a lot more active than MBC.

Let it be known I don't have an OWK bottle nor have I ever had it. I have no personal interest in pumping up the price.

I just re read the blog and it says OWK is its own recipe. Doesn't mention that it's a base recipe for anything else other then that specific batch of OWK.

The Veil would certainly have potential as Matt Tarpey worked there previously and goes back, I think last time was last year, and does a stay not just a casual visit.

This is the description of BBT b2 on the BA: "For Beer : Barrel : Time 2018, we chose a blend of our stout recipes that consisted of O.W.K. aged in Willett Bourbon barrels for 20 months, … (Ellipses) aged in Heaven Hill barrels for 23 months and Derivation Blend #3 aged in Knob Creek barrels for 17 months. Whereas BBT 2017 spent a little less time in barrel, the additional average age for the 2018 blend let the rich chocolate and sweet coconut notes of the beer and oak come forward a bit more, resembling some of the older, non-adjunct Derivation Blends."

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/32319/449305/

But I cannot confirm that the source who wrote the description on BA is accurate.

According to their blog, for BBT 2019, “we chose a blend of our stout recipes that consists of:
    • O.W.K. recipe aged in Willett Bourbon barrels for 21 months

    • O.W.K. recipe aged in Eagle Rare barrels for 21 months

    • Derivation Blend #3 recipe aged in Knob Creek barrels for 22 months

    • Derivation Blend #3 recipe aged in Knob Creek barrels for 28 months

    • Derivation Blend #2 recipe aged in Willett Bourbon barrels for 20 months”

How interesting. I'm going to try and find the photo of that barrel. I think I took a photo of it when I was there last time. It was just a single barrel too.

It doesn't really matter. I was just trying to say that I think Cory only brewed OWK one time. If he put some stout into multiple/different barrels and what not to age/blend/experiment with I have no idea. Someone will just have to ask the man himself. I've been fortunate to have it several times but to the point of the OP, this just isn't gonna close.

I mean, there is a connection between Veil and Cantillon though (Veil brewer was an apprentice there, right?). I'd be surprised if Cantillon tried to pull that sort of misdirection, but who knows.

This isn't going to be any help if you don't have Facebook, but that pic is regularly posted on Behind the Veil. It isn't a "collab" per se, it's just a beer that Matt Tarpey (Veil brewer) helped create there. It has a Veil logo on it with "L," "T," and "14" around it, whatever those mean.

Yes, that's exactly what I saw. I didn't know the Veil brewer had such strong connections to Cantillion. Learn something new every day.

For sure. Yeah, I recall him detailing the trip/stay on his Instagram and I think it was one barrel from/for that visit. So, I would anticipate it’s legit and not misdirection.

Good point. Just one thought that suggests that the OWK recipe might have been brewed more than once:

Assuming BBT 2018 and 2019 were bottled a year apart, if part of BBT 2018 was OWK recipe aged in Willett barrels for 20 months, shouldn’t BBT 2019’s OWK recipe contribution have been in Willett barrels for 32 months if it was the same batch of OWK? However, they list only 21 months for the OWK recipe in Willett barrels for BBT 2019. This suggests that either it was a different batch of the OWK recipe, or it sat in stainless for nearly a year (which seems strange).

Lol I even gave myself a headache after typing that last message. Well cheers. I’ll probably be grabbing a beer myself tonight (most definitely not an OWK ha).

Not sure on that? Maybe....I know Clark recently had his last one to try side-by-side with batch two. Regardless, that was the best stout I have ever had and would certainly not trade it for OWK if I had another. Brandy vanilla dark lord right out the gate was a close second.

This could also be a scam post. Can't rely on MBC and like sites for accurate numbers considering all the scam/fraud that goes on there. If that's the case why don't we all just make our own post on such sites to drive the secondary down?

Or I could be the same small circle of guys running these razzle pages inflating the secondary for certain brews. Can't trust either imho.
