anyone ever try brewing one or tried drinking another brewer's attempt? Would be interested in trying.
Plenty of recipes out there for it. Some even sold commercially in a kit. I've done one. Pretty close. Need a hop back and need to transfer with co2 in closed vessels to get it close in my opinion.
I'm pretty sure that I collected a recipe, and I'm hoping to brew it in the spring. (Go away, damn winter, go away!!)
I just kicked a keg of a Heady clone I based off of the Northern Brewer recipe...good, but I think I'm going to use the Vermont Ale Yeast with other IPAs more in the future and probably won't brew the Heady clone again for a long while.
Don't attempt without access to Conan yeast, which can be bought under a few names or harvested from a can at home
This is what I used for my clone. It's based off of the homebrewtalk recipe. This was my second attempt and it was much better then the first attempt. Mash pH for me makes a big difference. I would dial back my hop extract addition to maybe 75 min because I found the bitterness a little high. The final product kind of reminded me of a cross between Heady and Alpine.
I've been torn between brewing a Heady clone, or a Ruination clone come spring. I've never had the privilege of trying a Heady Topper before though, which makes me wanna try replicating one (although it won't come close to the real thing). If you're wanting to try one though give Northern Brewer's Off the Topper kit a try!
NB makes a 'clone' that I hear is very close to the real thing: http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/off-the-topper-iipa-all-grain-homebrew-kit.html
