Hi! I´m looking for a german hefe-weissen < 4,7% abv. to be sold in norwegian supermarket chains. The only product I can find so far is Kaiserdom, but I would like other options - got any suggestions?
There are some "light" variants which aren't bad. I liked Maisel's Weisse light after running, it has 3.1% abv. But with more "regular strength" Hefeweizens under 4.7 abv... difficult, i mean even 4.8 is difficult, most are like >5%.
Finding Hefeweizens below 5% is difficult. Youll probably have to go with a light Hefeweizen.Every bavarian Brewery offers one. I can recommend Riegele's Leichte Weisse http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/5850/195506/
Definitely hard to find (m)any. Kind of odd, one of the most award winning ones over here in the states is only 4.3%. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/12314/65694/
Alkohol-freies Hefe-weissbier was all the rage as I was leaving Germany, ~2013-2014. If I remember our Faust brewery tour correctly, they can be made quickly and sold for the same price without the brewery having to pay the taxes associated with beverages that contain alcohol, plus they were a big seller. I'd recommend Faust, but I'm not sure if they makes their way into the Norwegian supermarkets or not. Good luck.
I came across this one the other day but didn´t drink yet; http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/295/33793/
Wow, I had this a long time ago without noticing the ABV but I never thought of it as being under 5%abv....Maybe it is a good idea to check several franconian Weizens. There are many downright excellent ones, maybe some more under the magic abv mark.
Standard hefeweizen goes from 5.0% to 5.5% ABV. It's difficult to find one <5%, if you do not want a "light" one around 3% ABV. I like the suggestion from DiUr: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/295/33793/ St. Georgen is a small brewery in Franconia, they make about 40.000 hl/year, so not too small to brew some beer for Norway. I drank that beer some time ago, afair it was more on the clove side than on the banana site.
