I have a beek geek challenge for yall.

I have tried two beers with a specific, distinctive taste i really do not like. I need help identifying it. I thought the first beer was rotten and expired. But I am now beginning to think it was the type of hops used. the first beer was Oakshire brand "Watershed IPA," the second with the same distinct taste is Elysian brand Space Dust IPA. I recognize the bitter and sour flavor... and the bottle of Space Dust says it uses Chinook, Citra and Amarillo hops. I think it may be one of these that has that taste. It is bitter, but also very sour tasting. Taste very floral too, but not like flowers... rather like dry grass. The image of mud and scortchedgrass by a lakeside on a hot summers day comes to mind.

I hate knowing there is a whole type of hop being used that runs beer for me. But anyway, if someone can identify this flavor, or if I am right, the specific hops being used... that would be appreciated. Thanks.

one brewery can use a hop in one beer, and another can use it another way, and sometimes the end result just isn't the same.

Also when you mix varieties, all sorts of things can happen... it's almost a pointless exercise...

    It's not always that simple.

i'm thinking it is the chinook or the amarillo. i've had tons of beers with chinook though.

probably. alarms were going off after sipping that Space Dust though. the flavor is so distinctive. it could be a unique mixture thing going on however. the taste is uncanny though.
