Hello all! Any special brews, etc. to search out in Reykjavik? Many thanks in advance to you kind souls.
Have you been to Iceland before? (if so, you can ignore this) My suggestion is to stock up on some bottles of Borg Brugghus beers in the duty free shop at the airport on the way in. That is a cheaper way get to try more of the local beer (we would have a few beers in our Airbnb before going out for dinner/drinking at night). Beer prices at stores and bars are pretty crazy (or at least they were with the ISK to USD exchange rate a few years ago). In Reykjavik, our favorite beer bar was Micro Bar: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/29476/
Last post here is over a year old. Any other tips or suggestions for a trip to Iceland this September?
Looking at the Untappd check-ins of an Icelandic guy I am friends with, looks like he recently rated some beers from Húsavík Öl pretty highly. I am guessing they are a newer brewery since they aren't in the BA database. Looks like they are in Northern Iceland. Doesn't appear that they have a functioning website but they have a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/husavikol/
Non-beer related: sneaker waves are real, respect the water when you visit any of the amazing black sand beaches. There are warning signs at the popular beaches around Vik due to a history of a few tourist deaths, but we got hit with one when we were visiting Djúpalónssandur beach on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. We were a good 25-50 yards back from the waters edge when without warning a wave just didn't break and we got hit with waist-high water which knocked my wife off her feet. Luckily a camera was the only casualty, but it could have been deadly since it was winter time and the undertow was very strong. It's a beautiful country, we want to go back in the summer to the North Coast and the Highlands. We were there in Winter so we could go to the ice caves and see the Northern Lights. Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach on the South Coast was probably our favorite spot from our trip, one of my wife's photos, the blue icebergs on the black sand was stunning:
