If you could recommend let's say a maximum of 5 beers to someone to try that they might not know of, what would they be? Let's try our best to leave off the obvious ones such as Heady and Pliny that almost everyone in the beer world is seeking and stick to things a lot of people may not know about or have had. All of these beers below I didn't know existed until last month and were new to me, so maybe we can try to keep it to a similar idea? I know a lot of you have been around and had almost everything, so weigh in the best you can and as you see fit.

    For me:

    1) Jack's Abby Hoponious Union
I received this on a trade and had never had it, to me, this is a must try. Just amazing in my opinion.

    2) Clown Shoe's Space Cake
I had seen this and wanted to try it and got lucky and found it on draft on a tap takeover in CT. Very, very good in my opinion and my friends agreed.

    3) Deep Ellum Dreamcrusher Double IPA
Received as on extra on a trade, and I gotta say...it knocked my socks off and I didn't see it coming.

I would recommend Midnight Sun (Anchorage Alaska) Berserker Imperial Stout. This is a great stout rated World Class by Beer Advocate. It's great on Nitro as well.

St Arnold (Houston Texas) puts out a fall beer called Pumkinator that is, to me, the best Pumpkin style fall beer out there. Also rated World Class by Beer Advocate this beer is done right! Release mid October.

Karbach Brewing (Houston Texas) I brews a beer called Hellfighter that is bourbon barrel aged that is smooth and sweet and AWSOME. Again rated World Class by Beer Advocate.

Rook & leer was easily one of the most interesting beers I've ever had. Smoked imperial porter, whiskey barrel aged and soured with Brett.

I would say in addition to Fegley's Bourbon Barrel Insidious, I would add Voodoo Big Black Voodoo Daddy. A very good RIS that is delicious and packs a punch at a low price!

Wolaver's Alta Gracia Porter - The malts are a little lighter than most coffee-infused beers, but it really lets the coffee flavor shine! I find most coffee-infused beers just taste like over-roasted/burnt malt to me. Wolaver's is relatively common with decent distro, this beer just flies way under the radar, in my opinion, of course.

Looks like my "want" list is going to expand. Good thread. Here are a few beers that don't have a bunch of ratings/attention that I like.

King Titus - Maine Beer Co. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/20681/85822/?ba=WesMantooth
BA Siberian Night - Thirsty Dog Brewing http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/12516/67722/?ba=WesMantooth
    Baby Maker - Jack's Abby http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/26520/101919/?ba=WesMantooth
    Maduro - Cigar City http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/17981/47731/
Eliot Ness - Great Lakes http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/73/229/?ba=WesMantooth

*Also, I would recommend trying anything from this brewery:

    New Holland Brewing Company http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/335/

While I love Great Lakes Eliot Ness, it's hardly unknown. It's on the beers of fame list on this very site.

So happy to be able to introduce some Wisco beers to this thread.

Black Husky Pale Ale This has been my Wisconsin go-to since moving here about a year ago. Always fresh, always small batches. 2-row & Simcoe, this baby has more flavor and hops than most IPA's on the market. Don't be fooled by the low IBU's (around 45?)- this beer is plenty bitter.

Lake Louie Louie's Reserve Scotch Ale From an unassuming brewery, one of the best Scotch Ales brewed in the USA. Smooth, great mouthfeel, and bursting with caramelized malts. Just enough hop to give it bite. Teeters on being a Wee Heavy.

Karben4 Fantasy Factory From my favorite brewer in Madison. One of the very few West Coast Style IPA's brewed in Wisco that actually stands up to some of my favorite Cali IPA's. Their SamuRye (Tokyo Sauna) is also awesome.
