Still can't wait for Double Bastard. I asked the staff in Escondido and they had no idea when it would be released. Hopefully they also put some in barrels...

Haven't had one of these in close to a year. The head is brighter, perhaps with the lactose/milk sugar, than the darker tan experienced with their other stouts. This is noticeably sweeter than Deth's Tar, but as this warm, the barrels do their magic.

We get a number of Revolution's offerings up here but that's not one I've seen locally. I got one in the Extreme Stouts Box and really enjoyed it. But then, I really enjoy most of their stouts, BA or no.

Curiously, the cherry wasn’t the dominant flavor, but it was quite present. 2 left in the 4 pack.
    Cheers!

Proper Pour is one of many strong and/or BA Boulevard brews that show up on the West Coast, but a new one to me. Very boozy aroma that is quite inviting. Super sweet with intense brown sugar and molasses flavors. And of course figs and dates. It doesn't seem to be very hoppy, just syrupy and highly flavored. This actually tastes more like a Barley Wine to me, and it's a little too sweet.

Tired Hands ~ Only Void Hazelnut & S'mores
The Hazelnut chocolate spread is prominent throughout here with a schmear of the lightly toasted marshmallow playing supporting act. All without being overly sweet and off balance. Drinks much like Hazelnut KBS with maybe a slight dip in the overall mouthfeel/thickness of an Impy Stout :beers:

Dear Lord, this one is insane!!!
I decided to reach back into one of @FBarber Frank's gems from NBS #17 to celebrate the announcement (finally) of my supt. resigning today. What a great beer to celebrate with.

    Henna: Rocky Road

Onyx to mahogany in hue. A slight, delicate fluff of deep cocoa colored foam lazily rises, hovers momentarily and tapers off in a minute or so. Low retention. But daaaaamn, she's a looker.A light liquid "lacing" colors portions of the glass edge.
Nose is straight up decadent. Fudgy and deep. Chocolate, toasty almond, roasted caramel, and hints of cherry jubilee. As it warms, maybe through the power of suggestion (from the label), I pick up some warm vanilla/marshmallow notes.
Flavor is another level. Definitely a blending of what the nose foreshadowed but with a deep, slow meandering through the fields of Elysian ( hey there must be a part where dessert is served in a glass). A gentle warmth from the ABV is like a hug. Yes, everything is going to be alright.
Mouthfeel has a respectable heft, silky, and slightly warm. Peace.
    Overall, a stunner.

Pours a fairly clear, rich dark brown color, opaque in the glass; thin yet lasting tan head, fairly dense. The aroma is mostly dark chocolate and cocoa with some boozy notes and faint coffee presence. The taste amplifies some of the smell character; boozy milk chocolate; bourbon tones; very little coffee noted; some caramel and toffee; coffee-like bitterness. Heavy body; viscous feel; strong alcohol heat.

Well, certainly pretty good overall, but much of the coffee presence has faded. What is left is a tasty milk chocolate and bourbon imperial stout flavor. Very nice in that regard.

    3.75 4.5 5.0 4.5 475; BA weighted overall: 4.71; rDev: +0.9%

Ink black body that started with a thick head that quickly faded to a thin, tan head. Dark roasted malts with an excellent coffee component; additional touches of bitter chocolate. Robust, chewy, extremely flavorful tastes: cocoa, molasses, anise and licorice with a nice underlying touch of alcohol warmth. Heavy body with a smooth, velvety feel; semi-sweet/dry finish.

My first experience with this bee is with this 2013 release. I can understand the high appeal of this gargantuan dark ale if past releases have been similar. Flavor is king to me, and this one deserves a rarely given “5” in that department with color (ok, so there's no sub-category for color, but it was near perfect as far as appearance goes) and aroma scores up there, too. If only the head would have been thicker and longer lasting, or even traces of lacing on the glass, and some of my lower “4” ratings may have gotten bumped up a quarter or even half point. Ah, but when you have incredible taste overall, these minor gripes are just that. Think I'll pursue the rest of my glass with an eye-rolling satisfaction while jazz tunes float in the background...

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

...yes, a good imperial stout (as noted), and too far in the past to accurately measure it up against the 2013 release (different coffee used, anyway)...then, too, perhaps I was more in a 'fan boy' reviewing mode back then as well...

Thank you @Resistance88 for this!! So much dark chocolate fudge here! You can absolutely tell it’s the 2022 base (aged 2 years). It has more anise than the 2023, but the extended aging has added a ton of character. Massive coconut bomb for me. It’s almost like a girl scout samoa cookie, for real. If I can find one around here for a standard price (the few places that have it are pricing this at $50) I might grab another and check in on it in a year or two

    Solstice Stout - Kuhnhenn

In keeping with a theme, I’ll be brief.

Boozie molasses with raisins, peat, chocolate cherries, and licorice. Very sweet, dense soft plush body. Reminds me of evenings with my grandfather, bulky oak furniture, cigars, and books. Warmth is a good friend to this slow sipper. And, oh YEAH, it’s good!

2022 version, a late (last?) bottling. This beer is released on the first day of winter at the tap room. Winter Solstice. 16.9oz waxed bottle. I have had this one maybe 8 to 10 times combining tap and bottles. One year old so I decided to drink my last bottle.

This beer has plenty of super fine lacing.

Smell: plenty of fresh chocolate brownie
Taste is plenty of fresh chocolate brownie at first. Then a little dark fruit and roast. Next a little barrel and oak. Just a hint of vanilla on the finish. But the after taste goes back to some chocolate. Smooth and rather easy drinking for 17.2%, Not boozey at all. I consider the barrel to be mild.

Mouth feel is good, smooth, not really thick but surely not thin.
I will stop by the taproom in the next few days to try out 2023

I figured you wanted a pic so i stolen one from @GreenBayBA
