Most likely a nod to the beer writer Josh Bernstein

Sorry this is so late. I was probably just over estimating how notably different it was likely to be. "Slovenian Hops and Open Fermentation" set me up to expect something a bit more unique and hop forward.

But again, I wasn't in a position to do a very careful tasting so take any of this with a grain of Slovenian salt. And I also came up positive for Covid a couple of days later which may or may not be relevant.

I'll be curious to hear others' takes.

Well I'll be. I got thrown by the parentheses and didn't even think to check the word in a translator. Making sense now! Thanks for dropping in the clear things up--looking forward to trying this one out.

Definitely enjoyed it! I honestly haven’t had a ton of jacks abbey stuff, more human robot. But this was definitely a great collab!

Malt Liquor looks good, wish it was in distro. Looking fwd to opinions, one of my favorite styles when done right in craft. JA just a little too far a drive for me :slight_frown:

They discontinued Bohemian Dusk and I'm not happy about it. That beer was very good and we need all the Czech dark lagers we can handle.

Thanks for adding it. I've been periodically keeping a few breweries' entries up to date but have fallen behind lately. Was there more information on the can that led you to enter this as a kellerbier? With the very limited info on the website I would have leaned toward European pale lager.

Did you hear that they did so? I thought this was simply a limited release--next round scheduled for Oct. according to the release calendar.

Below is from the Jack’s Abby website with emphasis in bold by me:

“Inspired by Slovenian hops and rustic amber lagers, the teams at Jack’s Abby and Human Robot collaborated to brew this limited lager featuring Czech floor malts and open fermentation. Life and Lager are both best enjoyed a little SLO.”

Kellerbier and the verbiage of “rustic amber lager” can correlate.

Have you tasted this beer yet? I have yet to see it at the beer retailers I regularly shop but I still am looking.

    Cheers!

Thanks for making that connection. This one is also on my list of singles to get so hopefully I can report back in a few weeks.

Nope I honestly had no idea what style to make it. The Slovenian lager was throwing me off. Definitely edit it to make it whatever is most appropriate!

I've done this many times with recent JA beers where they throw certain hops in and then just call the beer by the country of hop origin. Makes it really hard on us BAs to determine the style--just want to make it clear that I wasn't criticizing your choice, simply curious. If I feel strongly once I buy and experience the beer for myself then I'll submit a change request. Certainly not going to do so when you've had the beer and I haven't!

Well I finally made it and they were out (or at least didn't have any in the cooler and I didn't press them as I only wanted a single). Fortunately they still had Nordic Frost so I got a pack of that, the new smoked marzen, and quite a few singles to try out. And of course some S&D. With my limited drinking I'll be set for another couple of months.
