That really doesn't sound like a bad price -- $7.50 to $8.75 a six-pack? I'd gladly pay that for (fresh) Jever. My usual go-to is Trumer at a similar price... when I can find it.

PA's case law has pros and cons, but a big pro is cheaper beer prices, assuming you don't mind purchasing by the case, which is typically what people dislike most about the case law.

Yeah, I can see that as a drawback.

I think you explained that well, and from what I've heard, this is the case with many/most Belgian/german or other continental brews. I really need to get over there. haha

Randy, I will teach you a 'trick' that I learned (I believe from Michael @TongoRad). If you are ever in a store that sells 6-packs (e.g., the Wegmans beer retailers) and there are stacks of cases sitting around (as they sometimes are) you can open a case and remove a 6-pack from that case. I have never seen cases of Jever stacked at my Wegmans but maybe I will in the future?

    Cheers!

I've never seen Jever here. But I recently saw Konig in 16oz cans in the cooler. Price was, if I recall, $5.99 a four pack. That's pretty cheap.

I've done that for decades but it's not so easy with Jever. Haven't bought a case in a couple years but they don't (or didn't?) use a standard corrugated box with 4 top flaps (outer and inner) where one can just (quietly) pop the flaps and pull out a six, but had a more complex box with glued end flaps/serrated opening system (like the current Sierra Nevada 12 packs).

OTOH, if I found a case of relatively fresh Jever, I'd just buy the damn thing - what good is a quarter of a case of that beer gonna do me with temps already in the upper 80s? :grinning:

Nothing stops a box cutter conveniently concealed in your pocket!

    Cheers!

    P.S. A full case is a good idea too!

HEY!! I personally don't think Tucher is really all that....good. For about 3 years I lived roughly in the center of a triangle, the points of which would be Nurnberg, Kulmbach and Regensburg. If Nurnberg had a good brewery, I never found it. My favorites were from a couple of Kulmbach breweries and we drank a lot of the smaller Nord Bayern/Franconian regionals. There was a brewery in Regensburg called Spitalbrau that was barely better than Tucher but who doesn't want to say "Noch ein Spita bitte" or "gimme Spit". Never heard of Jevers around there, though. Had to come back to the States for that one. We didn't drink any of those "Northern/Yankee" beers. Bamberg was about as far north as our tastes took us. I still don't like North German Pilsners as well as Bavarian but Jevers is certainly a fine Pils. I would still take a Schlichter Winkler Brau Export over any of them though. Prosit!

I've been known to do the same thing for freshness, too.

Top rippers, box cutters, we are a shady lot but at least our heart is pure.

I don't take the front milk in the dairy case, either. Beverages are serious business some times :sunglasses:.

Heart purity is OK, I suppose; more importantly, our beer is un-lightstruck (there's more than one way to be "shady").

In Germany last yr for a week drank mostly Jever and Konig. Sometimes draft but bottle/can still fresh tasting.

I mean, the difference is no doubt at least partly psychosomatic--you're on vacation, you're having a good time, you're trying new things. Every beer is going to taste better. But still: strip away all the layers and there really does still seem to be a difference.

I've also been seeing Jever pop up in tallboy cans recently, and the difference is noticeably: it really is a delightfully herbal, bitter little lager. Very tasty.

Exactly the same here. The local scene here with OMB pulling back to Charlotte has really hurt the market here with these styles. I wouldn't buy 15 month Old beer of any style was not a big stout.
