forgive me if this has been covered before. I tried a search, but it didn’t yield many results.

Have a short 2-day business trip to KC in 2 weeks. What are the must stops? Looking for both breweries and bars. Any special/limited releases I should keep my eyes peeled for?

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers!

When are you in town? What part of town are you in?

I'm on mobile, but will try to dig up the other thread. Otherwise, I'm happy to answer any questions.

I’ll be staying downtown, but will have a car and plenty of time in the evening to travel.

So far plan on hitting torn label. Any other suggestions?

Here's a thread on the KC beer scene.

Since you're flying in, and you'll be around KCI/MCI, you'll be near North Kansas City/Kansas City North (believe it or not, that's two separate municipalities). The big notable brewery up there is Cinderblock. They offer several taps of house brewed beer - emphasis is typically IPA - and several 4 pack 16oz cans to-go. Colony is near, close enough to walk, and offers some variable taps. There are other breweries, but I haven't visited them myself.

Torn Label is in the Crossroads. On the same street (18th) is Border Brewery and Double Shift (my personal favorite) and just down the way is Casual Animal. Double Shift is the most worthy of a visit outside of Torn Label. Directly across from Double Shift/Border is Grinder's and International Tap House, were you can get awesome local cuisine and a huge craft beer bar. Brewery Emperial is around the corner, producing clean beers with an intriguing, but polarizing, menu (if you're vegetarian, I'd avoid it).

Since you have a car, Boulevard is worth visiting. They have 'test' room beers that aren't available in bottles, some of which are available in crowlers to-go. Since you're leaving Friday AM, you'll miss BKS's open hours. Should you decide to drive south of proper 'downtown', the Brookside neighborhood is beautiful. The Flying Horse Taproom, which has a decent to good tap list most nights, is small, cozy, and fun and is connected to a nice alcohol shop for to-go orders. Down the street on 63rd by about 15 minutes is Crane, which is suburb. Probably one of the best breweries in town, and number one if you like sours. It's just in an odd spot, particularly if you're trying to catch a ride there and back. A touch further south from Flying Horse Taproom in the 'Waldo' neighborhood is Bier Station. If you want to get beer to-go and a pour of something - this is the spot. Nearly a dozen coolers and several dry shelves offer a quality to-go selection, with about 30 taps listed (all up to date on their website). Cooler beers can be served on site, but require a little surcharge too.

There is more than that, but it all depends on how much you want to drive from downtown.

If you want to meet up for a beer, please reach out. I'd be happy to guide and chat. Otherwise, feel free to ask questions here.

    Cheers!

Spent the weekend in KC, wasn't with "beer people" so my options were limited. A couple of observations:

I didn't realize Maine Brewing distributed to KC.

Had a few Torn Label IPA's that were pretty good. Mothers Winter Grind was really good and 4 Hands absence of light was the best pb beer I've ever tasted. Also tried out something called Tinta Davilla mexican Stout at Q39. It was good but I kept wanting to compare it to Stone Xocoveza and it's not at the same level.

Maine Beer Company just landed here last month. We get Lunch, Woods & Waters, and Peepers, and potentially more if sales do well.

Mother's Winter Grind is one of my favorite brews. Definitely a treat when it comes back around.

    Glad you enjoyed it!

Oh man, this insight was incredible! I’ll have to pick and choose my battles since I’ll be pressed for time, but looks like I will have plenty of options. Thanks a ton!

I realize I'm late to the game here, but definitely let me know if you have any questions about visiting Boulevard. I'm happy to help.

bumping this thread as i think i may be headed to KC this friday. very limited amount of time and will likely be out of town by the time BKS opens, but am looking to do some hunting around in a solid beer store...i assume plaza liquor is probably the best place that is relatively close to the ikea? any other must stops in that general vicinity?

You might look into City Barrel in the Crossroads. They just opened their doors a week or so ago. I haven't been, but was able to try a few of their beers they released at special events leading to their opening. Hazy IPAs, fruited sours type of model. Not entirely sure about to-go options though.

Will be in town in July. Hitting up a royals game. Is it worth getting the craft and draft seats or is there nothing special in there?

I have never actually bought a ticket for this section so I can't say whether or not it's worth the price.

I have, however, bought a cheap ticket and walked to the Craft and Draft section and spent most of the game in there multiple times. They have a pretty good beer selection. At least 25-30 tap options (almost everything from Boulevard) and two or three well stocked beer fridges with bottles and cans. I don't know if I'd classify anything as special necessarily. But still a great place to watch the game.

The seating is comfy/spacious and the view is great. In addition to the huge beer lineup that folks have mentioned, the food menu is pretty killer for a ballpark as well. Also, most Craft & Draft tickets come preloaded with $20ish to spend on food and beer.

I make it out to 30ish games a year so let me know if you have any questions. You can DM or email me at jdanner at boulevard dot com.

Also, you don't have to have a Craft and Draft ticket to go in there and order a beer. It's what I've done on occasion.

Correct. Anyone with a ticket to the game can grab a beer in Craft & Draft.

Does anyone know of any good craft beer bars in KC that serve food late on Fridays, like until 1AM?
