Heading to Kihei/Wailea next week for 10 days. Other than Maui Brewing Company, any must-hit places to grab a drink or bottle shops?

I enjoyed Kohola Brewery when I was there last. What Ales You was a decent spot in Kihei. Lots of CA beers and there was a cool tiki bar next door.

Kohola def worth supporting if in Lahaina area.

Monkeypod in Wailea has a good beer list. Great food. 29 degree beer. A selling point, to them.

Best beer list on island is at Rock N Brews in Paia. Also a town very worth visiting. Very IPA centric in a great way. Had GI BCS when we were there. Had to do it.

Haleakala? Kula Marketplace a worthy stop with a good bottle/can selection.

Now I endure winter. Dream of Hawaii. Drink big BA stouts.

I'm going to be staying at the Royal Kahana near the Maui Brewpub for a week in April. I know about the breweries and other places, but my question is more about the Maui Stone Distribution setup. Is the MSD website up to date on what they send to the island? Are there are any California breweries I should look for? Seems like we get most of them in Washington if the website is current. Only ones we don't get are Pizza Port and Refuge.

Don't setup a bottle trade with the owner of Maui Brewing Co. He will more than likely be a no-show and leave you high and dry without even so much as an apology.

[insert a photo of a kid sitting on the curb with a fishing pole in his hand, waiting on his dad... but the dad never shows.]

Any good places that sell singles or let you break up packs on Maui?

Whole Foods Kahului sells singles but its usually old stock or breaking up packs that someone has already broken up. I don't think they advocate breaking off singles it but I have seen people do it before.

The MSCB website site is accurate as far as their portfolio of beers goes. I have not seen Julian Ciders around since they first debuted.

Thanks, I'll probably just stick to bombers then. Don't know if I'd have time to meet up, but I'm probably bringing a couple local cans of hazy Seattle beers.

I feel like I read your story before in another HI thread. to me it sounded like he had work-related stuff that took him off the island? or am I completely wrong?

when you go to the Hawaiian islands it is important to show your respect for the Goddess of Fire, Pele, by bringing her gifts. One way to do this is to bring @ShoyuStout hazy IPAs and barrel aged stouts from the mainland

I’d like to know this also. Will be in Kahana next winter. Look forward to your follow up.

Also if RK has their beach back.

I'll be heading back to Maui for the first time in 2+ years (taking a break from the Big Island) this weekend. Another short notice trip to the islands. Staying in Kapalua area this time. Anything I should know @Black_Rider before flying out this Thursday? Kohola Brewing, MonkeyPod, etc. Havent been yet. Any changes at Maui Brewing in Lahaina?I went to the new Kihei my last visit to Maui. I've already hit up @ShoyuStout. Cheers.

I'm jealous. have a great trip. @ShoyuStout is your man for up to date beer info. one change since you've been is the restaurant at the main brewery in Kihei is up and running now. I still haven't been

if you've never been to Merriman's you should go to their outside patio sometime for sunset. near where you're staying. they actually have pretty good (though overpriced) beers available. and incredible view.

my gf and I usually go out every year but not sure gonna make it this year so please have an imperial coconut porter for me

I am trying to plan out our trip to Maui next month- we fly into Kahului on January 19 and back out on January 26.

My wife will be running the Oceanside Marathon on January 20, so we are looking at staying in Wailea our first night (that is where the start line is). The marathon is a point-to-point one and finishes in Lahaina, so I would pack up our toddler, check out and head to Lahaina to watch my wife finish the marathon- and at that point, we are looking at staying in Lahaina. Looking at doing the Old Lahaina Luau- any reason not to do it? Supposed to be fairly authentic...

So between these two Maui towns, what are your favourite beer and food spots? Doesn't have to include both. We will be around to have dinner the day before, as well as the rest of the day after the marathon to eat, drink and relax as much as we like before we get out to hiking the rest of the week. Sushi and seafood is our jam, so any specific recommendations would be great (all these generic "Top 10 sushi in Maui" lists aren't all that consistent).

The rest of the trip is a whole other story, trying to figure out what else is a must-see in Maui and the Big Island..

Also, if anyone wants, I can pack some New Glarus and other Wisconsin beers to trade/share with fellow HI beer nerds on Maui..

    Hey Steve,

Also heading to the islands in a few weeks. Researching. I'll be there after your trip. Some highlights or discoveries you made would be cool to know about.

I posted a thread about our last trip. Still holds up.

    Wailea
Monkeypod is probably the place to go. Great food. Tap list is extensive. 30+ Kohola, Big Island Brewhaus, MBC, Kona, Honolulu Beerworks, Kona. Ask for a non frozen glass. Seriously. Their mentality is still stuck in the frozen I-don't-really-want-to-taste-my-lager mindset. Maybe they've changed.
The Pint & Cork @ Wailea Shops. Haven't been but looks promising. MBC, Kohola, Aloha Beer Co, Port (this is exciting for me. can't get Port IN STL)

Wailea to Lahaina stop in Kihei. From Monkeypod, Maui Brewing Kihei location is a 10 minute drive. People have raved about Cow Pig Bun but it appears to be permanently closed.

Drive to Paia. Great town and Rock N Brews has some pretty good food and tap list. Monkeypod probably better at this point.

    Lahaina
Kohola Brewing. North part of Lahaina across main drag. Very worth going.
    There's another Monkeypod in Kaanapali
To me, Paia Fish Market has the best seafood in that area. Also decent beer. Across from Banyan tree.
People rave about Down the Hatch for food and beer but haven't been. Also Banyan tree
(Apparently Cool Cat Cafe has best burger in Lahaina)
    Maui Brewing in Kahana
Merriman's Kapalua just for the view. $5 beer at happy hour. Need more beer intel on this place.

    Big Island - Kona?
Ola Brewing is new to Kona and looks really good. Only a 10 minute walk from Kona Brewing Co.
Big Island Brewhaus way north in Waimea is pretty much a must visit.
Tropics Ale House in Waikoloa had good food and a decent tap list.
In Kona, Humpy's Big Island Ale House. Food was great, 30+ taps.

    Aloha

Happy Hour at Merrimans is definitely worth it with the amazing view. My wife had a cocktail, daughter had a Coke and I had a $5 pour of Kohola Talk Story pale. There was a bottle list of fancier stuff but nothing I couldn't get back home and definitely not part of Happy Hour pricing.

The new Maui Brewing Co. buildout at Kihei is gorgeous.

I'm heading back to Kauai in April, doesn't look like anything has changed since I was last there in 2016.

I was at Kauai in June in 2018. Loved it, everything other than the beer. Which is fine. BYOB to Kauai.

We always bring some fancy bottles for dinner at Kauai Ono but then I’m cool with whatever is locally available for the rest of our stay. Looks like Ola and Honolulu cans are now available on Kauai.
