Also, is there a particular vintage I should shoot for or are they all winners?

I really don't know much about the trade value of de garde, I know it used to trade high but now I don't see it pulling as much as it used to. That said I'm sure you could land a vbdl with a strong combo from your list.As far as vintage, I'd go with '14. '13 has had some mixed reviews about it being infected so I wouldn't gamble for it. Plus '14 is the freshest so the vanilla goodness will be the most present.

Agreed 100% had 2x 14' & 2x 13' over the past year, both 14's were out of this world vanilla marshmallow bombs. While both the 13's were very sub par, drinkable but nothing like they should taste.

My sense is your whole list may actually be needed, in which case I would personally not trade the whole list for a BVDL. Other than the Sansom's, the rest aren't difficult to trade for, unfortunately, using much lesser ammo. BVDL tends to command 2 highly sought after beers (Think DB Hunah, BA Abraxas, or something on that level) and 1 or 2 solid pluses (BA Cake '13, Assassin, Prop, etc.).

For what it's worth I traded a DB huna and a BA abraxas straight up for a 2014 BVDL.
This trade was posted in the forums and I accepted it.
I'm pretty certain that 2 DB huna or 2 BA abraxas or one of each would get this done all day long.

If someone offered up a BVDL '14 for 1 of each BAA and DBH, the trade would be closed instantly, as you did. If it was the other way around, looking for BVDL '14, it will likely be a lot harder without a nice plus.

Spencer and Framboise black probably aren't "easy" to trade for - 300ish bottles of Spencer and less of Framboise. Granted, they don't have the cachet of bottles with similar rarity ... but maybe there's someone out there looking for a quasi-reasonable offer of rare quality beers. (I say quasi because, IMHO, BVDL trades that aren't between friends will pretty much always be stupidly unreasonable!)

The fact that, say, an offer of Maple Samson, Cafe Samson, Earl Desay (all initially 1 bottle limits and pretty low total bottle counts), Framboise Black, and Ale Apoth Spencer can't land one BA stout shows how out of whack values are. I doubt any of these were more than 600 bottles, most were way under, and all are excellent. Oh well; glad I have no desire to trade for it!

I hear you, my friend. I guess I should have said "the rest aren't too difficult to trade for, unfortunately, using much lesser ammo". They are not really sought after is a bigger barrier to value.

I absolutely am stoked with getting the Samsons myself. They sound awesome. I'll be tasting BVDL this weekend, courtesy for a friend, but I would never try to trade for one myself given how much you have to likely give up. I rarely trade that way.

I still think a combo of DB huna and ba abraxas or multiples of each is dead even. Maybe a small plus on thr non vbdl side but nowhere near assassin or a barrel aged cake.

Enjoy those samsons; crazy unique beers. Definitely nothing else like them that I've ever experienced ... though maybe Ale Apothecary's Be Still had some of the same elements in a more subdued package.

Thanks for all the responses guys.

Agreed, if someone asks for the whole lost I will kindly tell them to get lost.

I also rarely trade that way. Typically if I can't get something $4$ I pass until I can or skip it all together. At the very least as long as any lop-sidedness is made up with extras I'm typically happy. But I'm a ***** for BA Stouts, and this is one I've wanted to tick for a while so I might have to splurge a little this once.

I'll report back if this gets done and what for. Cheers!

I hear you. If "splurge" for it meant Maple / Cafe / Earl / Framboise / Spencer, I'd consider it. Hell, since BVDL is $50 that's only about $35 over $4$. But if "splurge" meant whole list? Nahhhhhhh ...
