Great feature, although I also prefer alphabetical sorting as the default. If the Last Active column appeared on the right side, users could click on it to sort by date just as easily, and the primary info (beer name) would be ordered first. Just my $0.02.

Just tried the new features, there's definitely a butt load of useful info. I'm looking forward to NOT getting interested in a beer only to find out that it hasn't been reviewed/rated in three years.

    Thanks and Cheers.

If you saw my reply #8 to this thread yes 1 click does it i said that. I just prefer the Alpha as the default.

I'll add another vote for the default sort to remain alphabetical. I know how far to scroll based on a beer's name, but I can't know where I'll find it by order of recent activity. It's useful functionality and information to have, worthy of being on the brewery's top-level list, but I foresee the date for an individual beer being much more helpful than having it in a sorted order that way.

Related to comments in the Top 250 Beers thread, I would be in favor of retiring the "Retired" term, and using inactivity as the basis for separating a brewery's beer lists between Active, Inactive, or All. Sure, that will result in cellar hoarders or people finding dusty gems on a forgotten store shelf making some retired beers active again, but I think that's the lesser sin compared to tons of beers remaining indefinitely on the "non-retired" front-page list simply because a user marked them as "Rotating" when it was added to the site.

I was just looking at the BA Place page for a brewery that I recently visited and noticed that the Beer Stats Average was 1.8. That can't be right, or am I misunderstanding what this number is supposed to mean? Could there be some unforeseen consequence of the changes mentioned in this thread?

Or for this one too with a 0.49 average: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/58370/?view=beers

EDIT: I think I see what is happening. The total for the 5 rated beers in the second brewery is being divided by the total of 40 beers, although 35 beers have no rating. The total for the 5 rated beers should be divided by 5 to get a true average.

Just a glitch that was fixed earlier today. Should be fully resolved with the next daily update.

Maybe I’m too old school and I hate to be a Debbie downer but while these are really fantastic data additions to BA, they really don’t do much for me personally.

First, I’m in the default to alphabetical camp. A lot of people have said just it's one click away from being alphabetical...it's actually two clicks on an iPhone if you have to consider the extra click to move it from the default List view which is impossibly long to scroll through to find a beer, to Table view, which is somewhat more acceptable. It shouldn't be any clicks if you want to make it easy to use for most of the people, assuming most people are like me, a big assumption, I know! Additionally, in the case of Firestone Walker I'm just not convinced that the majority of BA fan boys really care that PNC Buckwheat Imperial Stout was the most recent beer rated, especially considering that time stamp is not right, and the second to last rating was January, 2019...which might further suggest that it’s “retired”, not “rotating / seasonal” as listed.

Second, I personally would prefer the default column be the “All” column rather than the “Active” column. Again, I’m less concerned with who’s drinking what at any particular time than what a brewery is all about – isn’t this what Untappd is all about? I’m a completist with a large cellar and half the beers I, and I suspect a great portion of BA’ers who pay attention to these nuances, are rating are beers that are retired and thus not active – so you’re destined to have to click on the All category anyway to find them.

Third, the way it presents now is just too confusing for an old school guy like me. Any “sport” like beer drinking, rating, clicking, and researching shouldn’t require that much explanation on the home page of a brewery, and “retired” vs. “inactive” will always be a hard sell. Why not make the default column the All column in alphabetical order so that people can easily find beers from that brewery, and somehow de-prioritize the rest, but keep it there for those who value it? It’s great data but for my usage and value of BA, I’m not particularly interested. Maybe I’m an outlier though, so just my opinion. Cheers!

The timestamp is correct. It was last rated on 12/28 UTC and is displayed as such.

Any chance the default beer list (whatever the activity status) can be listed alphabetically by name as opposed to the last activity date?

I imagine most people search for a beer by name.

When selecting the "All" tab, would it be possible to have a column indicating if the individual beers are Active, Inactive, or Retired? That way no matter how it's sorted one can tell the status of the beer. I'd rather not have to look at the Last Active date and then try to remember complex rules and algorithms.

I agree with others who say alphabetical should be the default. But as a feature, the Last Active option is tremendously useful. It allows me to quickly find recent buys in the list, since those in the store and circulating on tap are most likely to be active. Where the list has dozens or hundreds of beers, this shortcut is a real timesaver.
