So this past weekend a local bar tapped 2013 BCBS, 2014 BCBBW and the BCBS Vanilla Rye. My wife and I went, and she got to try the vanilla. When she did, she said that was the first time ever that she "got it" - she understood why I wait in line for beers or show up early to a tapping, because of that pour of vanilla rye.

So my question is, are there any other beers out there anyone can think of that come even somewhat close to the vanilla rye? She doesn't drink a ton of beer, but I'd like to seek out some new stuff to get her more into it. Thanks!

I think you mean regular Bourbon County.

I've done it and it is actually not far from Vanilla Rye.

That's tough. Off the top of my head, I can't come up with something comparable. Parabola 2014 is fantastic.

Interesting thoughts, thanks for the replies! I was able to get 2 4-packs of BCBS this year, and after sharing a couple of bottles with friends who struck out, I have 1 4-pack left. Maybe I'll try 1 bottle with some vanilla and see how it goes.

    Uh, what?

Get your hands on a Bruery Black Tuesday or any bourbon-barrel aged beer by them and like the dude said, BA Vanilla Shake. Order it from Mikkeller's website, it will ship to Wisconsin, I think.

I say stop chasing the same beer and find another amazing beer completely different.

Thanks for the tag. I'm with you on the Randall - it's a lot more fun, too!

    BCBS "Vanilla"
    - Bourbon County Stout 12oz
    - 1.5" madagascar vanilla bean, chopped into 1/8" or so pieces
    - 3 semisweet chocolate chips, cut in half

Add all ingredients into randall jr, pour in 6oz BCBS (or the full 12oz, which I often do) and screw on Randall Jr cap ASAP to seal for carbonation. If you used 6oz, get a wine stopper in your BCBS. Set the Randall Jr in the fridge for 60-90 minutes, remove, mix together and enjoy!

I'm a huge fan of the Randall. I've tried a lot of these recipes with 'cheaper' bourbon barrel stouts such as Central Waters, and I have had a lot of success with them also. Also recently made a blood orange westbrook Gose, which was unreal. The possibilities are endless!

not that it's any easier to get, but I'd had booth BCBS Vanilla and Evil Twin's Imperial Biscotti Break Bourbon Barrel Aged on New Years. BA biscotti tasted exactly the same but with a slightly less marshmellow taste.

How much vanilla (extract?) would you add to a 12 ounce Bourbon County regular.

I would start with a teaspoon and work from there. You can always add more vanilla incrementally.
