I was actually considering replying with Madagascar myself. I liked it more than Vanilla Rye, although there is definitely more complexity on the Vanilla Rye's side (being a BCBS variant).

If you already have BCBS, I would highly recommend just throwing some vanilla extract of some sort in there, as that's almost guaranteed to do the deal without too much hassle.

my advice is dont use vanilla extract, use actual vanilla beans. i either use a french press or add a vanilla bean to the bottle and cork it for a couple days. i will also put vanilla beans in a swing top growler and pour the BCBS inside and let it sit for a couple days.

OMG... when did all you dudes turn?

First it was fruit in the beer. Now chocolate and spices?

    I am aghast!

What I mean is BA Biscotti Break has the marshmellow taste, but Vanilla Rye has maybe 15% more Marshmellow flavor than the Evil twin.

Why not have her try readily available beers that are very good before giving your left arm for VR? Breakfast stout, victory at sea, heck even Breckenridge vanilla porter might be fantastic in her eyes

Yeah good luck on just grabbing some Madagascar. You'll prolly have more luck finding a bottle of Vanilla Rye.

But honestly OP, I personally don't think you need to adhere to such a close approximation of that one beer. I have a suspicion that your wife may start to "get it" with any high-ABV stout or barleywine with lots of sweetness. You might give the regular and barleywine Bourbon County. Or maybe even something like Dragon's Milk that would be easy to get.

You can also make your own and make it more bourbon forward. Vanilla pods can be kind of expensive but you can find them at costco pretty cheap. Also here you can control the bourbon flavor more, want less bourbon, cut it with vodka. You can take the used beans, let dry out and throw into some sugar to flavor it for various things.
    3 vanilla pods
    1 cup bourbon

Using a paring knife, make an incision in 1 of the vanilla beans starting 1 inch from the end and continuing lengthwise through the remainder of the bean. Repeat with the remaining 2 beans.
Place the vanilla beans in a 1-pint glass jar with a tightfitting lid.

Add the favorite bourbon and push the beans down until they are completely submerged. Seal the jar and store it in a cool, dark place for at least 1 month, shaking it once a week. The vanilla flavor will intensify the longer the beans remain in the infusion. Store the extract for up to 1 year. As you use it up, top the jar off with enough liquor to keep the beans submerged, replacing the vanilla beans as they start to lose their flavor (about every 3 to 6 months).
