    Good evening New Yorkers.

Some friends of mine from England will be in Lower Manhattan for a couple of days on June. Any suggestions? I could only think of Torch & Crown

I’d love some help here too….. Going for the first time this weekend for a quick trip. I went through the NYC Recommendations thread https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/nyc-recomendations.679765/, but don’t know enough about the geography to know what in that thread is convenient. I’ll probably just have an afternoon open, so places within walking distance/ short Uber…. Are there any bottle shops that I can purchase stuff to take home? …. And anything I need to see…. I know nothing.

What part of town? Lower east side, chinatown, greenwich village? Or are they open to moving around?

Assuming you mean anything south of 14th Street, I would recommend the following for beer bars: Blind Tiger, Proletariat, Augurs Well, and Fools Gold as the best options with always great beer lists. Also, you can never go wrong with a visit to McSorleys for an old time feel and authenticity. Dead Rabbit Club is a great visit too but all the way downtown.

Where will you be staying? That will help narrow down options.

Beer Run, Milk & Hops, NY Beer Dispensary, and Craft+Carry are all either just a few blocks or walking distance, all bars with legit taplists and good to-go selections. Harlem Hops has a spot on the river at the Pier 57 Marketplace which also has a bunch of food vendors, and the rooftop park has a great view. Nice place to hang with a beer and some food.

They all update their Untappd menus pretty well so you can see which place has the best looking stuff. In general the Untappd map is a pretty helpful tool to see what beer spots are in an area you're not familiar with.

Wow! Thanks! I’d give you a hundred likes, if I could. Those look great! New York Beer Dispensary appears to have the best selection (but it looks like they list all their packaged beers, while the others don’t seem to). Do you have a preference?

Human Robot cans to go? Yes, please. I didn’t realize they were available outside of Philly. If you like a beautiful Czech or German lager, you know what to do…

Agreed with all of these options and recs. Also, Carmine St Beer is a very short subway ride away and has great options plus beer on tap. If you do head that way, most of the beer bars I listed above are within walking distance (from a NYer perspective) or a short cab ride.

edit: I have never actually heard of NY Beer Dispensary. Just checked their taplist and wow I might need to make the trip tomorrow. Stellar.

They must be pretty new, only started seeing them come up as a venue when looking up stuff on Untappd a few months ago. I checked it out a couple weeks ago and it's definitely legit. Decent amount of space/seating too.

I did see Human Robot cans there but only IPA which were from like January or something, so I passed. Didn't see any of the lagers, but I'm not 1000% familiar with their label style so it's possible I missed em.

I live much further uptown so I'm not a regular at any of these particular places, but if you like the list at Dispensary the most may as well make that the primary destination, they have a good amount of seating to post up and hang out, I had a great time there a week or two ago. Also may as well check out more of the area than just a block or two from the hotel.

I bet they just picked up cans like places do with Tree House sometimes.

That seems likely considering as far as I know, Human Robot doesn't even distribute their cans to stores in the Philly area.

One more question…. I’m an IPA guy. What should I be on the lookout for? We get Equilibrium and Other Half in Houston. Any comparable local IPAs? What about readily available beers? What locals should I try at restaurants that aren’t beercentric? I guess that was two questions…

Grimm, Finback, District 96, Fidens (they don’t really distribute as far as I know but I have seen cans pop up here and there), Wild East (they crush all styles so just look out for their beers in general), Root and Branch (they also don’t readily distribute you can find their beers sometimes), Sand City.

Also, not sure if Texas ever sees drops of Alchemist, but NYC gets Heady and Focal distribution every 2 months or so.

Wayward Lane is a real under-the-radar one from upstate that I've been seeing around the city with more frequency on tap and packaged, really great stuff in all styles. May not be at every shop but definitely keep an eye out. Drowned Lands and Beer Tree are other good ones from up there you may see around.

Some bigger names from the general region we get here you may not see in Houston are like Bissell Brothers, Veil, Tilted Barn, may see some Vitamin Sea or Widowmaker. Not sure if you get midwest/mountain area guys like Weldwerks/Toppling Goliath/Outer Range/Hoof Hearted but they're around here.

On tap you can probably find Root+Branch, maybe Fidens, Sand City.

Just went to Test yesterday. Definitely lives up to the hype. A few different 4 packs to go as well

Going to be in Jones Beach for a show in a few months - can't wait to get back to Root+Branch. My only annoyance is that they don't open until later in the day on a Wednesday, but I'll make it work. What's their glassware situation like these days?

IIRC they usually don’t have glassware for sale. When they do, they make a post on IG. I could be wrong though - I’ve never asked and am not looking for new glasses. You could probably send them a DM, they are responsive.

If you have free time before they open take a drive over to Sand City. 5-7 minutes down Oak St.
