Guess the last thread was locked because it was tagged 2018. So here's that since there's a lot of good info in it:

As far as 2019, first news is that there's gonna be a combo brewery/coffee shop going in the old Saratogian building in Saratoga. It's a cool building so I'm interested to see how it'll be repurposed. The brewery, which is currently looking for a brewer, will be Whitman Brewing. The place itself will be called Walt & Whitman, so I assume Walt is the coffee side of things.

Untied Brewing in New Providence NJ is brewing beer and claims it will open by the end of January.

Honestly, I am not sure. It looks like it may be a brew pub? They do not have much of a social media presence and I have seen very little details on them. Seems they serve food and have a full bar.

According to Facebook they are “a gathering space featuring craft nano-brews, food art and music.”

Sounds like a brewery per this quote from the article I posted above:

“The tanks for the brewery are in place, as are the buildings electrical, sprinkler and heating systems.”

Ah, so maybe pretentious brewery? Well hopefully it’ll make good beer at any rate.

Do you not want to gather in their space to drink nano brews?

    (continuation from 2018)

This afternoon, my wife and I drove to Schenectady and went to the new Frog Alley Brewery. The building is still under construction: first 2 floors brewery, 3rd floor apartments. Impressive, looks like it's going be a bit larger an operation than I thought. They haven't had full grand opening yet but they are serving beer.

I went straight for the porter, Amy tried the flight. She liked the porter best, so we got the growler filled with porter.[IMG]

I went to Union College, in Schenectady '79 - '83. My roommates & I made the rounds of the bars and drank cheap lager in all of 'em : Teddy K's, Gravel Gertie's, Rupsis Tavern, The Pressure Pub, The Horse's A**, The Bar Association, The Electric Grinch ... but there were no neighborhood breweries then. What a cool business & culture change to have happened in my lifetime.

Nice! I’m a Hamilton College grad 10 years behind you. Spent a lot of time visiting friends in the Albany area and also remember getting our butts kicked playing Union in football. Similar experience drinking wise. You have me wondering it there are any good breweries near Hamilton.

I went to RPI those same years, saw a couple concerts at that chapel on the Union campus, Jorma, Rick Danko, Pat Metheny, really nice place to see a show.

Depends on your definition of 'near,' I suppose, but Copper City in Rome and Woodland Farm in Utica are both 15-minute drives from Hamilton College and both make terrific beer.

Also, I dropped in at Frog Alley on Friday and came away very impressed. Had an IPA hopped with, I think, Ariana hops? Something I had never heard of. It was a unique flavor profile but really damn enjoyable. That Captain Ellis porter is a stunner, too. Worthy of being their flagship. Found out that one of their brewers has a Founder's pedigree, so it makes perfect sense that they'd do such a killer take on that style.

In order to get from the taproom to the restroom, I had to walk through the brewing area. I was expecting another hole-in-the-wall nanobrewery like Real McCoy, but this place has a lot more capacity than that. We definitely enjoyed our growler of Capt. Ellis... almost polished it off Saturday night, left just enough to have with breakfast on Sunday morning.

Yeah the renderings of what the completed place is supposed to look like are bananas. It's gonna be reaaaaaaal big.

Also, not for nothing, but Real McCoy like quintupled the size of their taproom at the end of last year. There's actual space to sit and enjoy some beers now.

Well, I finally made it to Workhorse; that place is BIG.
