Good afternoon, I am moving to Tacoma next month and wondering if there are any good areas around there and how is the beer scene in Seattle? V/R, Trey
This question has been asked a lot, go back through the forums to see previous discussions. But from Olympia to Bellingham there is TONS of awesome beer, good luck...
Enginehouse 9 (E9) and Tacoma Red Hot are the standards, but there's plenty more too, the locals will suggest other places to you. For a regional over view ( because you're not that far from PDX), check out these two threads: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/visiting-seattle-fall-2016-update.454538/ https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/visiting-portland-fall-winter-2016-17-update.457121/ Welcome to the area. If you ever decide to come visit us up north, let me know, be happy to give ya some tips for the Bellingham area.
Hi I would recommend visiting a new Brewery calld Half Lion off of Highway 167, the Seven Seas Brewery of Rude Parrot and of course the Narrows Brewery home of Octopus IPA near The Narrows Bridge I would suggest eating at Boathouse 19 or bringing your food to the brewery next door and enjoy a good IPA with it....Cheers
That is the first ever remotely positive comment I've ever see concerning Half Lion Brewing. Powerhouse and Engine House #9 are my favorite South End/Pierce County breweries.
Should be lots of good info in these threads. https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/bottle-shops-in-tacoma-wa.438772/ https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/just-moved-to-tacoma.353054/ https://www.beeradvocate.com/commun...rom-oklahoma-need-the-filling-of-info.352126/ https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/new-to-tacoma-wa.303402/ One other tip...don't bring up the topic of Saturday bottle releases in the NW Forum.
I won't comment on the Narrows brewery or Boathouse 19, but did want to concur with Rirjnr2 about Seven Seas in Tacoma. Not sure how long it's been there, but 7 seas does have a tasting room in downtown Tacoma now. Definitely a welcome addition to the Tacoma beer scene.
You won't be disappointed. The beer scene here is huge. I moved here from Belgium last year and hauled 500 pounds of Belgian beer with me because I was worried that the Belgian scene had ruined me on everything else. Not the case. There's good stuff all over the place here.
very few positive comments regarding the Beer at Half Lion brewery. The location is easy to get to and has a great decor but the beer selections need a guest brewer. I wanted it to be good toooo bad since it is pretty much in my back yard!
Their beer is really bad. I checked them out when they first opened, figure they needed more time. Went back recently and it's still bad. What a bummer.
This is my backyard as well. Seems the 3 breweries in that area are similar in that the beer offerings have a ways to go....Half Lion, Lake Tapps Brewing, and Northwest Brewing (although they have been around the longest and show the most promise).
