As if I needed another day to drink my beloved IPA, today is the "official" day!

    Enjoy and Cheers BA!!!

National IPA Day – First Thursday in August
National IPA Day on the first Thursday in August celebrates the beer known as India Pale Ale Beer.

While the IPA is one of the most popular types of craft beers, it’s also making a resurgence with local microbreweries. Many are experiencing success as their brew finds its way into local restaurants and pubs.

The IPA seems to have developed out of an idea from the 1700s. When shipping ale to India, adding hops to the beer increased the longevity of the brew. Brewers thought that hops preserved the beer for long voyages to hot climates. One London brewer gained attention for his ability to brew this particular style of beer. George Hodgson shipped many casks of pale ales to India from London. However, no one knows for sure when or who coined the name India Pale Ale.

Brewers ferment barley to make India Pale Ales. Depending on the length of fermentation, the tannins may cause some bitterness in the beer, even after adding the hops. While IPAs have a reputation of being bitter and hoppy, not all are. They also tend to be crisper than other beers.

    HOW TO OBSERVE #NationalIPADay
Raise your glass on National IPA Day and enjoy this day with friends. The beauty of participating in a National Day such as this one is the support you provide for local craft brewers…Cheers! Post on social media using #NationalIPADay

Will be enjoying a few Integral IPAs from my local brewery Port City and maybe a Melvin IPA, which just showed up here in the DMV (canned in July, no less).

    Cheers!

Just went to obx brewing station and had crystal IPA. My wife wasn't a fan but it's a good English IPA. Seems to be the theme in this area. Lost colony in manteo has a rocking English IPA. Too many for most IPA lovers, bit well done

I enjoyed a new IPA from one of my local breweries (and entered it into the BA database) with a late lunch today. This brewery has admitted in the past that they don't make very good IPAs (their focus is to brew great lagers, including IPLs and German-style beers), but this IPA was good. I think it is only the 3rd or 4th IPA that they've brewed in 4 years, so the trend is good.

What better way to celebrate! Canned 7/22. Outside smoking pulled pork and drinking a P4P.

I hope you all don't mind if I add something here I just posted on WBAYDN. I think it's appropriate for both threads:

My next IPA is a special one for today. In 2018, Carton Brewing's anniversary beer was Inside Our DNA, an oak-aged India Pale Ale. It pays homage to the original American IPAs, which were brewed in Newark, NJ. Carton used yeast from California which came from original Newark yeast. At the time it was released, @augiecarton suggested aging some cans because they would evolve into a nice Barleywine. This is the second consecutive National IPA Day where I've opened a can of this special beer. The appearance hasn't changed in two years. As you'll see, it's a lovely amber color with a generous eggshell-colored head and lacing. The smell is still oak-forward but with more caramel and less hop presence than when canned. The taste follows the nose: The oaky caramel is now prevalent. I'm not tasting much citrus. The Bullion hop oil has mellowed but still adds pleasant bitterness at the finish. It's fun to drink a recipe from the past using the progeny of yeast that came from fewer than 20 miles from where I sit. This is great! I'm glad I have two more cans and two more National IPA Days to drink them. Maybe Carton will brew this special ale again. Waddaya think, @augiecarton? Bravo!

I chose Bodem from Half Acre...what a great every day IPA... too bad I can't get it down here in Tennessee. I was gifted this from a friend up in Chicago.
