Good morning saison sniffers and stout sippers! I hope this message finds you ready for another Sunday of all things good, fermented, malty or hoppy in your pints, pokals, and goblets!

Weather in Central OH is slightly schizophrenic. We had a pretty nice week with some hints of spring but then we got a nice dusting of snow last night. Spring forward with snow. Awesome. Still, the spring seasonals refuse to slow down. Saw the Stone Go To IPA which the bottle shop owner said it’s “sessionable” and “good for sitting by the pool”. Hmm…think I’ll re-visit that when it’s about 40 degrees warmer.

I had some other new things that will be making an appearance today which are probably more suited to the cooler temps. Today is the day and this is the place to TRY a new beer and TELL us about it in this thread. Kindly find something that’s new to you, sample it, and share your opinions, rants, and reflections in this thread throughout the day. Good descriptions of what you had is kindly requested but feel free to embellish with linked reviews, pictures, and any other multimedia enhancements to help tell your new beer story for us.

Thanks for keeping NBS fresh, informative, and fun.

Off to brew an Imperial Stout but I’ll be checking back today and probably adding my own offerings as well.

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

Good morning Matt and NBS! I have been up since the ridiculous wee hours and the first thing I did today was break my french press. No matter on to breakfast. You know how you get up too early and your whole day is either screwed by that tired for no reason feeling or by a euphoria that is more annoying then delightful?

I waited . . . and I waited . . . (for a respectable hour) and then I tried Weihenstephaner Korbinian. Holy bottles of beer on the wall! I want this beer everyday.

A silken and ample malt with a perfect compliment of dark fruits and light chocolate. Finishes not quite dry and is indeed liquid bread.

I am going to go bounce off the walls a bit as it snowed AGAIN. Cheers and Happy New Beer Sunday =)

See it was still dark when I got up.

I've never had a problem drinking beers immediately
Muted pale fruits and dank, rich earthy hops with hints of spice and a clean grain malt bill.

I took it slow on my first pour, but the rest is going into a pint while I catch up on Vikings with their second season's first episode, and its gonna be what its gonna be... :grinning:

    Great drinking.

    Cheers!

This NBS with all of the new "session" beers hitting the shelf (and kudos to brewers for bringing more to the market as even a few months ago I would have said ABVs just keep creeping higher) I figured I'd try a couple to see what I should keep my eyes out for or look past this summer.

First up we have OH-PA, the "session pale ale" collaboration between Buckeye Brewing in Ohio and Rivertowne in neighboring Pennsylvania. Before the last of the 6-pack is gone, I'm going to need to drink this with some flaming saganaki. Then the session beer everyone's been talking about, Stone's Go To.

From a price point, the OH-PA wins being $8.99/6 vs $10.99 for a 6er of the Stone (at least in Cleveland).
The OH-PA clocks in at 4.8%, the Stone at 4.5%. OH-PA's style is listed as an American Pale Ale vs American IPA for the Go To.

I honestly feel like I could drink both of these regularly. I tried sips of both from the original containers and liked both better without bothering to pour it into a glass. Particularly the OH-PA; I have yet to get my hands on Heady Topper but like their statement I think this one's better consumed straight from the can. I have to give credit for the can being easier to open so I think this would be perfect for mowing the lawn or sitting by the pool and being very refreshing. Having a crown cap & not as much structure but more flavor I would go to Go To when in the kitchen cooking or hanging out with beer friends. I'll be curious what others from Ohio/PA who run across the OH-PA think of it. Cheers!

Happy NBS from sunny WI. All I know is that we will have highs above 30 all week long. Goodbye snow!

Today I am enjoying Chillwave IIPA. Aromas of ripe pineapple, passion fruit, and sweet honey covered bread. Taste is big on sweet juicy tropical hops with just a touch of bitterness. There is quite a bit of sweetness that is like a fresh biscuit drenched in honey. I think of this like a sweeter more tropical Hopslam. It is quite good and easy to drink.

As always I look forward to the new beer the rest of you are enjoying today.

Good morning NBS! No ability to post pictures today however its not stopping me from trying something new. For my birthday a few weeks ago I bought a lot of new beer, one of which, Maui Brewing Coconut Porter is my new one this week.

Can't comment to appearence as I love the Can Revolution as they call it so I plan to stick with the can!

Definitely can smell some sweetness, more of the A sugary quality, not getting a lot of coconut.

Feels almost watery on the tounge. Decent flavor. Hints of a roasty sweetness, with maybe just a touch of coconut? Truthfully I havent gotten much coconut from this beer.

A semi decent brew for sure. Maybe could be a bit fresher, as its about 2 months old. Maybe coconut fades as fast as hops?

    Cheers and happy quaffing!

I was waiting all morning for this thread. I decided to go big or go home and bust out my bomber glass. One pour no fuss.

Pours with a nice head, into a cloudy copper color. Smells like caramel, tastes like honey.

No big hop flavor, but still tasty big malty finish, feeling the honey all the way through.

I'm knee deep in this badboy, tastes better as it gets warmer. Good but not great.

Giving it up for my Ohio brother. Love this idea.

Afternoon NBSers! Unfortunately, I'm handling some serious family issues, which has prevented me from enjoying any beer lately - new or familiar. I'm still following along, though, vicariously enjoying your new beer experiences. Perhaps I'll be able to join you late tonight with a new beer of my own; we'll see. I hope so!

@Greywulfken what did you think of the Yakima series? I had that the other day, and while I thought it was a well-crafted beer, I found that hop, in a single-hop format, just wasn't for me.

    Cheers, friends!

My first NBS post and dealing with some crappy issues at home. But I took the family up to Mystic yesterday and finally made a visit to Beer'd Brewing Co. Amazing beers and people.

Vegemite Sandwich from Beer'd Brewing. One of the tastiest local offerings of the DIPA I've had in awhile.

Still going through the Deschutes portfolio. I enjoyed this one but it seems to be a West Coast IPA with an East Coast identity. Almost like a prequel to SN Torpedo.

A well crafted beer but could easily get lost in the sea of IPA's.

    Happy NBS everyone!

    New Texas quad Sunday!

Been waiting to try this for over a month ... (and so has Midnight -- lower right of picture

It's good and strong, perhaps a bit "dark" for my tastes but still worth the purchase. Rochefort 10 is little more fruity and less raisiny. Belgian strong dark ale loves would dig Four Swords. It kind of blurs the line between quad and strong darks.

    No tricks here:

OK, so they use syrup instead of straight sugar ... my point is that it's not barrel-aged or mashed together with extras. Not that I frown on aging or extras, but too many American brewers only sell their Belgian beers with tricks and never offer us *just* their raw version of the beer. Deep Ellum gets +2 points from me for delivering a straight-up quadrupel. Kind of cool.

    New DIPA/Chile beer Sunday
Cheers NBS-ers! I wasn't sure if I had this in me today, but here goes.

I had this beer yesterday as it just came out and wanted to give it a shot until I'm up to par again for drinking beer, period. My Friday night adult hockey league game led to a concussion and whiplash to my neck so now with vicadin (sp?) in my system my beer drinking will take a dive for about the next week.

Here in SE AK, we had a couple inches of snow on Friday, but the rainy weather melted the snow a bit so the temps are in the '30's.

First time with the Sierra Nevada Snow Wit White Ipa. Brewed with 7 experimental varieties of dwarf hops and an authentic Belgian yeast.
At first sniff the authenticity of the Belgian yeast is confirmed as the spices and hops blend together to create a grapefruit profile. These dwarf hops are nice and fruity making this a fine blanco IPA. A nice change of pace from Sierra Nevada. If you poured this for me and told me this was some other grapefruit IPA I would not think twice(although there is no grapefruit in this ale to my knowledge).
The weather is nice to boot, Cheers!

    New Imperial IPA Sunday

Hello all! Today I had the experience of a WONDERFULLY hoppy, well-brewed double IPA from Dark Horse. I've been reviewing Wisconsin beers lately, but couldn't pass up the opportunity to try a limited seasonal. Anyway, I found a store with an amazing selection - Discount Liquors in Milwaukee - on 51st and Oklahoma. I was VERY happy with the selection. I was holding a six-pack of Dark Horse Crooked Tree IPA (which I enjoyed and reviewed yesterday.) The manager said that the Double IPA came in the day before, but there was a two-bottle limit. So I bought them each for 4 and change. Money well-spent. Both the IPA and Double IPA were outstanding!

I had the Original Ovila Quad. I found that the Booze was too off putting (mmm pudding). The alcohol bite didn't do anything to accent the dark fruit and malt flavors. I haven't had this one yet, but now I am intrigued!
