Cheating, as I've already rated this locally brewed beer, but I haven't reviewed it until now

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/29334/95109/?ba=woemad

A very tasty ISA, low in alcohol but it still provides sufficient hop flavor. According to one of the owners, Iron Goat has reached the point where they are considering bottling or canning, but apparently they're not sure what they should lead off with if they do take that step. I think this one would do rather nicely.

ISO. FT: any Mallard's pint you want. (pro tip, the fresh, local, organic strawberry is particularly kickass this year. But, the black pepper-vanilla is always a winner.).

Going with another sour, this time an English one, The Wild Beer Co. Somerset Wild. Not bad, but not great either, something tastes a little off.

    3.69/5 rDev +1.9%
    look: 4 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.75

11.2 oz bottle poured into a flute

A- A slightly hazy light golden color with a three finger white head that hades quickly.

S- Some pears and lemons, grainy cereal malts, slightly tart. Not bad, but doesn't make me excited to try this beer.

T- Better than the nose, but still something seems just a little off that I can't put my finger on. Sour lemon, light fruits, slightly funky, again cereal like malts, kind of light in flavor.

    M- Light body, crisp.

O- Kind of disappointing but drinkable. There is something slightly off about this beer I feel, has potential but doesn't really deliver.

I actually owe you one as your post prompted me to look up the calories in that beer. 335 per 12 oz serving so that 750 ml is how many? I should go to bed without supper.

Good evening, NBSers! I've been mostly out of touch all weekend, spending my hours up in the Adirondacks. I have beautiful pictures to share, but I think I'll put them over on WBAYDN?; after all, this is New Beer Sunday, and I do have new beer to share with you!

If you'll permit me a bit of rules-bendage, I have two new beers from today, and two new beers from yesterday (and two new beers from Friday!). I think I'll go half-and-half in separate posts: one Sunday beer (with pics), one Saturday beer (with pics), and a quick mention of the Friday beers, with no pics. So, first up for my New Beer Weekend, I have:

    Prairie Ale Saison
    [IMG]

This was quite, quite tasty. Very rustic, and not oversweet. A bit of lemony citrus and sweetness. Yes, cans would have made more sense on the lake, but oh well; this was very good.

    Hotel beer!

Very tasty Doppelbock. Hides the alcohol exceptionally well. Very smooth, rich, and malty, while still light and drinkable. Reminds me of rum raisin crossed with fruitcake.

    3.78 / -3.8%

And the last new beer for post #1 is:

    Boon Kriek

This was very disappointing. It wasn't bad, but there was almost no sweetness whatsoever. Instead of sweet or sour cherries, it tasted like dry cherry pits. More sweetness, tartness, and funk would have been awesome, because this beer still had a great mouthfeel and appearance.

OK, NBSers, I'll be back in a moment with my final three new beers of the weekend (but seriously, mostly Sunday, I promise!).

    OK, round two!!!

First up, I've got a brand new beer in my glass right now, at this very moment: Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout.

.....aaaaand bring on the hate. I'm not feeling it! It's a beautiful, beautiful beer, but there's a very noticeable metallic flavor, riding along a wave of tons and tons of roasted barley...but very little else. I don't think it's bad by any means, but as far as taste is concerned, I can't say I'm moving it to the top of my list of stouts.

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/158/12013/?ba=Roguer
    3.59 / -14.7%

Man, this is two porter/stouts that BA loves, that just didn't do it for me. It's not my palate, either; I devoured plenty of other stouts over the last week that thrilled me. Bad luck, bad bottle, or whatever it is...this beer was not for me.

Speaking of, let's bring on the Prairie Wine Barrel Noir!

The best kind of conferences are the kind where you are not only allowed, but kind of expected, to bring alcohol. :grinning:

This beer also didn't quite do it for me, but for another reason: the wine character was a little heavy-handed. Very red and tart. Despite that, there was plenty more going on in the flavor department: roasted barley, dark cacao, cream, oak, and oats. Very, very good beer, but I'd prefer a little less red wine character.

The last new beer of the weekend for me is another no-pic wonder: Piraat Ale.

I always kind of avoided Piraat because it just seemed like a Duvel clone. It's pretty tasty on its own, though. I get more of a banana/yeast character, and there is definitely an earthy hop bitterness to it. It's not quite as sweet as Duvel, and there's a bit of spice to it, as well. All in all, a pretty good beer.

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/48/156/?ba=Roguer
    3.84 / -5.7%

This also marks a string of 8 straight reviews (and 9 out of 10!) with a negative rDev. Most of the beer I've had has been very good; I'm just not blown away by anything as of late. No worries; plenty of good beer in the world to drink.

    Cheers, NBSers!

Wasn’t feeling the booze today after a couple too many Makers 46 last night. Hung out with some great friends and celebrated the g/f’s placing in a crossfit competition. Woke up this morning exhausted and dehydrated and drug my lifeless ass to the office to catch up on some work for the week. Hoping to leave work on Friday early and drive to Charlotte, NC for Phish. Meeting up with @jbriggs7 and @Brdlist for some pre-game brewski’s.

Now to the new beer Sunday. Popped open a 2013 CR WnB by Terrapin. Smell is coffee and burnt chocolate with a little cinnamon splashed on top. Taste is less coffee than the smell but tons of cinnamon covered chocolate and figs. Very sweet with just a touch of coffee on the finish. I really enjoyed this!

    New American Pale Ale Sunday

A bartender at a local pub (Panther Pub, in Greendale, WI) was kind enough to bring back beer from his recent trip to Chicago for me. He gave it to me last week, and today I tried it. Wonderful beer! From Half-Acre - Daisy Cutter Pale Ale.
I'm glad he brought me two cans and that they were pint-sized. He also brought me a beer from Revolution Brewing - Anti-Hero IPA, which I will have and review tomorrow. Going to have my "left-overs" of New Belgium Snapshot - I have four left of them... then call it a night. Hope all of you have a wonderful evening!

That's what I'm drinking at the moment while I read about all the new brews being guzzled (the Duchesse is far from new to me). I'd say that this beer makes the best case for being my favorite beer.

Like a lot of other BA's, I recently bought Sierra Nevada's Beer Camp Across America 12 pack. I drank 5 of those brews tonight:

First was the Yonder Bock, SN's collaboaration with Cigar City:

    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/140/127733/?ba=bluejacket74

This was the best of the 5 I had tonight.

Next up was the CANfusion Rye Bock collab with Oskar Blues. Unfortunately I got a bad can. I had high hopes for this one, but there was something just really off about this brew:

Then I tried the Alt Route Altbier collaboration with Victory, I liked it:

Next was the Torpedo Pilsner brew with FW, another good one:

Then I finished up my new brews of the night with the New Glarus There and Back:

It was alright, a solid brew.

Sorry I didn't write more about each brew, but I did link my reviews to each of them. Happy NBS everyone!

Good evening NBS! I hope everyone had a great Sunday thus far. I brewed an Hop Bursted American Brown ale this afternoon. 6 ounces total hops of Amarillo/Centennial spread across the last 15 minutes. Full 60 minute boil still employed of course. Realllly loved that wort sample, quick notes from memory: nutty, biscuit, toast, caramel, chocolate, toffee, roast, with some moderate grapefruit, tangerine, and orange peel. Some moderate perceived grassy bitterness. Nose was much more juicy on hops, but of course the fermentation is going to balance out the taste. I wont be dry hopping it. Went for the malty water chemistry profile on this. I have around 51/32 Cl/SO4 ppm in the water.

    https://www.brewtoad.com/recipes/hop-burst-brown-1

Oh, and I have 1.5 cases of empty bottles, so I am brewing a White IPA next week. I have a recipe I brewed 2 years ago that was phenomenal and is one of the best beers I ever brewed. Might change up the hops for some mosaic instead of the zythos. I used the Hoegaarden water profile last time, so I will do that again.

    https://www.brewtoad.com/recipes/not-so-witty-white-ipa

    On to the reviews:

And so my Beer Camp pack journey begins. This is a nice and very pleasant APA. Taste of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, floral, grass, pine with moderate caramel/light toast malt sweetness. Fair amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish. Very crisp and a fairly sticky mouthfeel. Its definitely enjoyable. 84/100
    [IMG]

Once again Traquair delivers a great beer. Bottled April 2010. Taste of big raisin, plum, fig, light cherry, caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, light chocolate, light herbal/woody earthiness. Minimal earthy bitterness on the finish. Very creamy and a bit slick. Zero alcohol warming for 10%. Extremely well balanced dark/bready malt and fruity/earthy yeast notes. All around just a simply excellent English Barleywine. 92/100.

This is really tasty, tastes fairly similar to Jolly Pumpkin's saisons. Taste of lightly tart lemon zest, pear, apple, cracker, bread, clove, black pepper, hay, straw, grass, herbal, musty funk, and yeast earthiness. Extremely crisp and smooth mouthfeel, a touch prickly. Fairly clean finish. Some lingering pale bread and pepper on the finish. Really nice saison. 88/100

Checking in from the great state of Washington, where it seems the whole state is on fire.

It's not the whole state, but there are some mighty big fires going in the north central part of the state. We had some smoke and ash falling Thursday and Friday. Now a new one in eastern Washington, 40 miles up the road. I'll get to check out that general vicinity in the morning, but I don't expect to be close enough to see flames. Terrible losses over the weekend, but thankfully mostly property and not lives. But still... it sucks!

So today it's Castaway IPA from Kona. Part of a summer sampler 12 pack. Not a bad IPA at that.
    http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/579/8411/?ba=RJLarse

Had the Professor figured out how to brew this stuff on Gilliigan's Island, rescue of the "Castaways" might have been an afterthought.

We have had a real hot spell the past week, but yesterday and today it's cooling back down to the high 80's. Good news for the fire fighters, and my water bill.

    Until next week,

    Happy Trails!

Got a gusher here. Bought this local beer on vacation last year in VA Beach. Beach Brewing Imperial Stout (10% abv) aged in Makers Mark barrels. Sorry the pics are as crappy as the label is. No matter how I pour this it foams up like crazy. It's actually not bad and still a really strong Makers smell and taste (love MM) after a year in my cellar. Way too much carbonation for an imperial stout for me tho. Can't get any other flavors over the MM alcohol burn. Cheers.

    Thanks for the welcome!
I'm planning on writing a review on Pure Hoppiness when I drink the bomber later this week. Just speaking in general, though, Pure Hoppiness had nice, bold flavors and--being that it is straight from the source--incredibly fresh. The taste began with intense mango, orange, and pineapple flavors, which faded into a moderate piney bitterness. It also has a good malt flavor beneath the hops to balance it out. Nelson was a tad different. It was not citrusy--much more pine and earthy hops. What separated Nelson from PH was the nice, spicy rye malt flavor.

As for the pub itself, here's the brief review I wrote:

    4.3/5 rDev -4.4%
    vibe: 4 | quality: 4.75 | service: 4 | selection: 4 | food: 4.75 | $$

My first time up to Alpine did not disappoint. The pub was sort of cramped--as it was pretty busy--but, it still had a nice inviting atmosphere. Despite the crowd and the size of the pub, it wasn't suffocating. The menu consisted of a fairly standard pub course, but the taste and quality was outstanding. Of course, the beer was fantastic.

Oh, and the beer battered fries will change your life. lol
