Starting to get pumped for the Packers game starting in a few hours and decided to open a new Wisconsin beer to start the day

If this is any indication, Wisconsin will be doing great things today. As always pure, fresh fruit coming from New Glarus. A nice caramel malt backbone and one of the smoothest mouthfeels I've tasted in a while. The strawberry is definitely more prevalent than the rhubarb though for my sour-loving palate I'd love to see the intensity of the rhubarb match, but still fantastic as is. Full review on the beer's page, a 4.26 score overall. More to come on WBAYDN as the game commences.
    Cheers!

    Hello all,

What a bitter - sweet day it is, very relaxed but the thought of going back to work in the morning is a pretty big bummer. Great holiday, though. As always, getting together with family is what it's all about, and drinking/sharing some good beers makes it all better. The highlight of the night was the Allagash Farm-to-Face, I had reasonable expectations but was completely blown away by it. I hooked a family member up with a bottle of BCBS at dinner and completely blew his mind. His cooler of Coors sat untouched the rest of the night as we shared some great bottles, like the Imperial Biscotti Break (which was also fantastic). A great beer experience, indeed.

Now I'm watching some Patriots Football while getting psyched up for some DFH goodness on tap tonight (120 included).

My beer for this week's NBS: Maine Beer Co. Red Wheelbarrow.

It pours a very cloudy deep red color (as expected) and has a very active light colored head that falls off rather quickly. Aroma is that of hops and citrus. Taste is big on hops, with a nice pine undertone. Bitter grapefruit is very prominent, and all is set against a nice malt backdrop. It feels light, and the very active carbonation is pleasant throughout. Overall a fantastic, well crafted beer that should pair well with some Sunday football. It drinks easy, but has plenty of bite to keep things interesting.

    Greetings NBSer's,
And a special congrats to @utopiajane. It seems smartly deserved. I am with @ri0 in that SCMN has had warm temps but lots of gloom that is broken today with sun, clear skies and cold temps. Surprisingly, I'll take it.
I"ll also give a note to @juicesflowing as I have had the opposite, meaning a pretty good year and a Christmas that has been outdone most other 50+ I've had in my life. I'm ready to move on, as best as one can.
Finally, the final day of regular season of the NFL is always a bit of a sad day, espcially if the local boys aren't in the playoff. But I'll enjoy the day and the game and cheer for a win even if it means a higher 1st round draft choice. (Why would anyone wish a home team to lose - "go out there boys and lay an egg for the team" - yea, like that's gonna' happen).
I think I've done a NBS beer from this brewery about a year ago. A Nebraska brewery that contracts in Stevens Point, WI for an Iowa based grocery chain. I've found winners and losers in their gallery, but today's is more the former and a bit of a surprise at that, esp. for the $6.99/6-pack price, it's worth a try. A nice drinkable beer with no excesses and solid flavors.

New American Gose Sunday (week 514)
Greetings fellow NBs'ers from on the ridge in Mid Hud Val, NY. Stopped raining here, but hardly sunny, the unseasonable warmth a reminder that not every winter is a blast of polar vortex. The weekend after Christmas always my busiest at the Recycle Center, as one would imagine, and today was the record setter by which all other days will be judged. Only stayed an extra hour, not because I finished the jobs, but because I surrendered, and quit before full blown PTSD set in. Desperately need some great refreshment, hoping this beer, a blood orange Gose, will do the trick.

Half a glass in, and thoughts about it recorded, I am happy to say it has done well in the refreshment department. Quite tasty actually.

Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

Hello everyone! I usually lurk around on NBS, but this will be my first time posting here. Today's plans hold far too much excitement to be contained in a single WBAYDN snippet! There is much preparation yet to be done, and no small amount of beer to be consumed during. Today, I'm hosting a dinner party for all of my close friends as my way of celebrating our friendship, and it will hopefully make as a nice Christmas gift for them too. :grinning:

I've prepared 3 courses, all with beer pairings (and alternates) for my guests to enjoy!

To start, I'll be serving a Caprese Salad with buffalo milk mozzarella, fresh basil, organic Roma tomatoes, and garlicky crostinis with balsamic reduction and spanish olive oil. This will be paired with Tank 7 Saison, or Tilted Smile. This is where I 'butter them up' for whats next!

Entrees tonight are some lovely Ribeye steaks, trimmed to look like filets, with sumptuous duck-fat roasted potatoes and fire-grilled vegetables. The trimmings from the steaks will be used to create a rich Bordelaise sauce. I've paired Chimay Blue, and Unholy by Coppertail as the Tripels with Founders Porter backing them up.

For dessert, bananas foster in all its flambe glory, with Hunahpu's Imperial Stout! Also some 110k+OT - B7 in case that isn't enough.

This is to be one decadent evening, and I will update a bit as the night goes on. Off to prep now, cheers everyone!

Greetings all you connoisseurs of the cask. After beach weather last week here in SE MA, the temp is beginning to dip back towards the normal. Overcast, brief heavy rain, Pats in a meaningless game, but I had hoped for a respectable showing. I took the Bills and points, though!

New to me beer is Jacks Abby Kiwi Rising. It is definitely bright and hoppy. Tropical and I am going with passion fruit and mango. Quite floral as well, and kind of a lime flavor riding along. A bit of resin, and slightly earthy. The hops run roughshod over the bready malt, but there is some malt flavor and sweetness that at least attempts to balance the hop-aggression. Bitterness on the back the lingers and helps clean up the taste. Good stuff, glad I tried it, but don't have to have it.

Greetings and Merry Christmas fellow NBSers! Hope everyone had a great week. All my boys were home for the week (ages 27 - 17), so it was pretty crazy here all week. They all like craft beer too, so we drank some awesome beer this week: BA Narwahl, FW XVIII Anniversary Ale, Guinness the 1759, Rodenbach Grand Cru, Boulevard Bourbon Barrel Quad just to name a few. The oldest two have gone back to their homes, so things are a little quieter today, thought I'd try this one before heading to my work Christmas get-together. This is also a new style for me, my 75th style as well! Here's the review:
Poured into a tulip glass, dark brown, kinda murky, looks a lot like a cola. One finger head that faded quickly to nothing, no lacing. Aroma is somewhat wine-like, with some molasses, dark fruit, and sweet malt notes. The flavor is dried plums, figs, and some nice tart flavors. It has some qualities of a good quad, but with a lot more carbonation. The mouthfeel was thinner than I expected, but very nice on the palate. Overall, this is an outstanding beer, awesome in all respects- even my wife gives it the seal of approval!
    Prost NBSers!

This next beer is interesting and from the "Dogfish head" of WI brewery know as Furthermore. A hibiscus rye smoked red IPA.

Aromas of a hoppy amber ale with tropical/fruity notes most likely from the hibiscus.. Hints of malt with some rye spice and char. The flavor starts off with sweet amber like malts and moves into the fruity notes from the hibiscus. Some bittering from hops. Finish is rye spice and some light smokiness.

Interesting and pleasant. I wasn't sure what to expect but this wasn't too bad. Not something I would want a six pack of to drink.

    Greetings NBS friends!

Tasting this Dogfish Head beer thousand I picked up a couple of weeks ago in a mix six. Label states, 'It's a right lyrical lager brewed with ten varieties of grains and ten varieties of hops'. Sounds like a lot going on!

Pours a sparkling gold color with a soapy white head, and tiny carbonation bubbles. A very appealing looking pour.

The aroma is dank smelling grains. There is a cheese like nose to it. Nothing off putting, but very odd. Maybe a bit of pine in the background, but for ten varieties of hops, it's well hidden.

Flavor is very cereal grain forward, a bit of sweetness to follow. There is a little hop bite on the back and a hint of a soap like taste. The mouthfeel is very oily, which is surprising, but welcome as I find many lagers too dry for my taste. Interesting and odd mix of flavors, but the sweetness seems to prevail over all.

In short......Its a very easy drinking beer at 10% abv. I'm not sure what varieties of hops were used, but I feel they're a bit lacking making this beer a bit too sweet for me. I much prefer some of Short's more hoppy lagers. One day I'll have to get my paws on some Jack's Abbey for comparison. Glad I took a gamble as I'm intrigued by some of Dogfish Heads creations. With that said, I'm giving it a 3.50.

    Cheers and Happy New Year!
