Good afternoon everyone, back from a weekend trip to Asheville to pick up some beer and I saw this one and had to give it a try. It is a collaboration between Burial and Nightshift I Know For A Fact You Don't Party, let me begin by saying this is a great beer very solid Imperial Stout. I know there is always something coming, I was expecting alot from this beer, Burial makes great beer I have never had a Nightshift beer but I think I was expecting too much. I do not want anyone to not try this it is a great beer, but I need to stop expecting every beer I try from them to be great and just be happy with a solid beer. Ok this beer clocks in at 10% ABV and was canned on 2/21/17.

Appearance 4 - Pours jet black with a nice thick tan head that lasted for a good bit, not much lacing.

Aroma 4 - Lots of roasted malts and dark bitter chocolate, maybe just a hint of vanilla and coffee beans but not much.

Taste 4 - The flavors are very close to the aroma, dark bitter chocolate and lots of roasted malts not much else. There does not seem to be hint of the 10% alcohol.

Feel 4 - High side of medium, slightly dry finish with a touch of bitterness.

Overall - A really solid imperial stout but I was just wanting more, maybe it is because I expect so much from Burial. Still a really great stout.

Have you had anything else from that brewery?
It just hit the shelves in these parts and I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Greetings from middle TN, where we are experiencing typical March weather. 75 degrees on Thursday, and 1.5 inches of snow yesterday morning. Now a beautiful but brisk sunny day. Here is a pic of our Magnolia tree during the snow and about 4 hours later:
Thanks to NBS BIF #5, I'm enjoying some amazing beers courtesy of @jhavs, all from a farm somewhere in the middle of Vermont:slight_smile:. I'm sipping on this beauty right now:
    look: 4 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.75 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

A beautiful sight right here! Very hazy and slightly turbid on the pour with a golden straw color. There was a modest bright white head that left quickly, but it left the glass with some sturdy, splotchy laces. The nose was bright, offering sweet grapefruit, grassiness, mango, and a bit of blueberry. I noticed the grapefruit on the palate first. Not bracingly bitter but not "soft" either. The mid-palate was more earthy (I love Simcoe) with pine, berries, grass, and dry bready malt. The finish was clean with a rising bitterness that framed the overall taste for me. Nice and light-feeling on the palate despite it's massive flavor, but not at all thin. A fantastic beer!

Cheers to @jhavs and all you NBS'ers!

    Cheers!

P.S. Spoiler alert: I will be Keller-ing next week for NBS.

The IPA is a good solid beer as well as there Tie Dyed is solid. There RVP seemed a little artificial tasting to me but that's my opinion. There DIPA Tragically Hopped though more towards a west coast DIPA not your east coast juice bomb was great I'd really like to do a side by side with a Pliney with both being fresh.

Hello NBS compadres. It feels more like early January than early March here in North Jersey: Cold and breezy. And the pending nor 'easter is causing a lot of consternation. Today, I'm reviewing Easton Brown & Down, an American Brown Ale from Weyerbacher, one of my favorite brewers. This is not a favorite style of mine; I find the taste to be rather one-dimensional. Weyerbacher does a good job but I wish some of the sweetness evident in the nose found its way into the taste. Here's my complete review:

    3.77/5 rDev +1.3%
    look: 4 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75

Bottled 2/13/2017. Poured into Weyerbacher tulip glass. It pours mahogany brown with ruby hues when held to the light, and one finger of creamy, ecru-colored head and lacing with good retention through the pour. It smells of roasted malt, nuts, freshly-brewed coffee, chocolate, and a whiff of molasses. The taste opens with a slight caramel sweetness but overall it is dry and bitter with a lot of burnt coffee, dark brown bread, and nuts. The after taste is decidedly bitter. It features a creamy mouth feel and is fairly viscous for a brown ale. It is more carbonated than I anticipated and its moderate ABV of 5.6% allows for very easy drinking. Overall, it's a nice rendition of its style but would stand to gain from more caramel and molasses in the taste.

I'm looking forward to the first WGNaBP tasting next week. I like the fact that I have absolutely no idea what I'll be reviewing.

Happy Sunday NBS players. Another cold day here on the island. It's nice and sunny and a bit of a relief from yesterday but not by much. I hate changing the clocks too. I've felt behind all day.
Another impending snow storm to come on Tuesday just sucks. It's going to screw up st. pats! Easily my second favorite holiday. I'm ready for warm weather and baseball. Been watching the wbc and I know it doesn't mean anything but I've been into it. US/Dom last night was a pretty good game. Watching Dom/Col now.

My new first new beer today is Weird & Gilly, an ipa, from Singlecut brewing. The brew checks in at 6.6% abv and a bottle date of 2/28/17.

The pour yields a hazy straw-yellow color with a fluffy white head. The nose is aggressively floral with tropical fruit. Tangy hops hit on the very first sip. A sweet and fruity flow with a nice bitter finish. Big time fruit notes of grapefruit, orange, lemon, melon, berries, and mango. The mouth feel is light/moderate. Very crisp and refreshing but the flavor really coat the mouth and linger nicely after each sip.

Overall, just impressively good stuff. Softly spoken magic spells is still my favorite but this is not too far off. I'm in the mid 4's here to possibly a 5 on the nose.

My first beer of the day might have been a battle, so it's nice to have had a nice bucolic ale for my next beer:

My review of Peak Organic The Juice had this as a nice, balanced beer that had a little bit on both sides to keep it interesting.

The beer pours a lighter color than the photos show... like a fog through which the light comes leading you to heaven. The fluffy cloud of head doesn't dispel this impression. I've used soapy to describe head before, but this was the complete embodiment of the impression as it washed away my sins and settled back into a cloud-like pillow.

Apparently heaven smells of light tropical fruits, including their skins. No harshness here as the smells are as well rounded as the feel of the beer baptizes my palate. Happy not to have the liquid scald my mortal body covering, I began to analyze the sensation. Light is the sermon of the day - light tart tropical fruit, joined by a light sweetness of the malts, before a light bitterness cleans out my soul.

After bathing in this beer's glory, I find there is a light lingering bitterness as I find the whole experience ended in me having an empty shell of a clear container with only a snowy covering to remind me of my experience.

Note, my experience may have seemed more intense given my experience earlier in the day.

After that huge peppery stout I need something hoppy. My brother sent me this 9% DIPA from Arcadia Ales called Hop Rocket. It's a bit nondescript and boozy for my taste, but I'm very appreciative of my brother for sending it! I noticed @WesMantooth just had one on tap. What did you think? Kinda weird beer, right?

Poured from an undated 12 ounce bottle. The beer poured a slightly hazy, yellowish- amber color with a minimal head on an aggressive pour.

The smell is faint citrus, mostly lemon and peach with a hint of pine.

The taste is weird. There is a boozy punch up front with a minimal citrus flavor underneath, mostly pineapple. I'm wondering if this is a little old.

The mouthfeel is slightly oily and a little thick.

Overall, it's a bit different then most DIPAs. It doesn't really hit strong on any flavor, and the booze is a little too forward.

Wow just finished reading this amazing thread of great beers described wonderfully as I thaw out from a rough weekend. Saturday was 30 MPH winds and 3 degrees when I got to work. You know it's cold when the Town Supervisor calls to make sure you're still alive haha. Today less wind and 10 degrees when I started. Brrr. I need a beer, a new one, luckily I have a whole bunch of new ones. Something warming. And highly alcoholic. Back in a bit.

I think mine was a sample/flight pour, but I recall it being heavy/syrupy and boozy with a very odd flavor that didn't belong like butterscotch or something. Actually, that was a short visit because I didn't find anything very good at the time

Mild coffee and chocolate followed by some bitter hops and Belgium yeast. Pretty tasty and quite easy to drink at almost 8%.

Happy NBS everyone. Excited to finally get to sit down and have a beer. Stopped in this morning and read the first few posts and I look forward to reading the rest of the posts once done with this review.

Congrats Utopiajane on your first beer. Been brewing for 7 years with two buddies on a 10 gallon system and brew at my house by myself when life allows it (1-4 gallons). Usually brew sours at home so that I can use all the non edible fruit that we save in my sours (pineapple cores, old strawberries, etc.). Plus it seems to be the only beer my wife likes is fruited sours (as long as they are not over the top sour).

My new beer for today is:
Elysian Brewing Dayglow IPA. Bottle Day of 1/31/17
I have never heard of this before so I decided to try it . $13.99 a six pack. Plus my son loves animals and really liked the look of the bottle and six pack holder.
Look: Slightly hazy apppearence, but still able to see through it. Nice light orange. Small amount of head is still there even halfway through the beer. Lots of lacing. 5
Smell: Pineapple and citrus (mostly orange), get that hop resin smell as well 4
Taste Starts with a nice pineapple sweetness, but ends with an assertive grapefruit/orange, citrus rind flavor. No taste of alcohol whatsoever. 4
Feel: The beer ends with a strong but pleasant bitterness and leaves a nice resin coating on the mouth and tongue. Tough not to go back and keep drinking. 4
Overall: A really nice beer, but likely will not buy again. I prefer a few other options at the same price or cheaper that have a similiar flavor (including hop stoopid, tropical torpedo, torpedo, double jack, etc.). 4
