Good afternoon NBS and thanks @cjgiant for the reminder of how far a community can reach us. Those stories of BA's meeting always make me smile. We spent the last 2 days here in WMass enjoying the mulitude of music offerings around us, Albert Cummings at the Iron Horse, always a great time, then ran up the hill to Smith College and caught Modest Mouse, and today our favorite fiddler Zoe Darrow at the Ashfield fall festival. Time for a beer!
The last of our goodies from Bar Harbor/Acadia week. Atlantic Brewing offered this Ginger Wheat beer which hits the spot, not remarkable, but quite enjoyable.
    Cheers all

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into the test glass.
A - Slightly hazy amber/orange color. steady carbonation feeds a quick to leave cap.
Small residual clusters cling to the glass.
S - Surprisingly a bit of citrus, then the malt/wheat and the capped by ginger in the best way. Spicy white pepper and a hint of clove. With a change in yeast. add some esters this would border on Trappsist territory. Which I quite like.
T - Semi sweet start, then the balance swings to summer grain and ginger, real ginger. There is some citrus, orange skin and hints of lemon.
M - A bit thin, starts gently sweet, then a delightful spicy thread runs through, finish is again semi sweet with a mild ginger aftertaste.
O - The body of this offering is light-ish and the carbonation keeps things prickly. In warm months I could see having a few. The ginger addition to a wheat based beer is spot on. The hops and their schedule add a nice citrus component.

The wife and I are at BWI flying home soon after a great weekend visiting our daughter on the Eastern shore. Was even able to squeeze in a nice visit on Thursday with @cjgiant and his better half! Hopefully I will be back late tonight with another new beer from the latest BIF, but we are killing time in the airport at Flying Dog, so why not post one from here:

    Snake Dog IPA
    [IMG]

Looks like a classic West coast IPA. Clear golden-amber color with a fleeting white head that left splotchy laces in the glass. Aroma was muted. Trace amounts of pine, grapefruit, and a touch of caramel malt. Assertive bitterness with somewhat muddled hop flavors that were hard to discern. Mainly pine but other elements were there. Overall average. Works for an airport beer. Cheers!

G' afternoon fellow NBS-ers! Today has been an interesting and fun day for the current NBS BIF blind tasting reveal day.
@oline73 was my sender for this round and sent me quite a few wants and this bottle, which I can only assume is a Hill Farmstead beer, based solely on the bottle and what else was in the box.
Gonna split this one with my Pops, since this is his last weekend down here visiting us.

So here's where I am with this one...

Poured from a 750ml bottle into a Teku glass. No visible date, the label is covered.
Appearance: First impression is that this is a Saison: slightly cloudy, golden orange body. No lacing left behind.

Aroma: Definite funk (Brett?) on the nose, peaches, a little sour/tartness to it.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Funk, straw/hay, peaches, citrus, subtle bitterness, not sure but this has an oakiness to it as well, definite HF well water taste too. Soft feel to this one and easy to drink.

Overall: Lovely looking beer with a funky aroma and delicious taste. Really refreshing and something I would definitely drink again.

So let's reveal this one and see how far off the mark I am...

Another great beer from @MacMalt ... BBA Insidious Stout from Fegley's.

Big malt, just a touch of bourbon sweetness, molasses. Full mouthfeel. On the sweeter side but not over the top. Touch of coffee now that it's warming. Really nice brew.

Yep, this ain't a daily drinker, but if you want a gingerbread stout it delivers as advertised. Not only is there intense ginger at a year old, but they hit that cakey note pretty well, too. Wouldn't mind a four pack of these in the snow.

A-A nice dark color with a slight tan head and nice lacing.
S-A scent of dank hops, roasted malts and coffee.
T-The taste follows the smell, with nice reminders of mocha.
M-A medium bodied black IPA that is very smooth and easy on the palate.
O-A very nice balanced beer, with good character.

I guess it was a little towards the flat side but not too flat given the style. A lot big stouts and porters I drink have very similar carbonation.

Some of you remember Austin's Celis Brewery in the 1990s, and some may even know parts or all of the story of Pierre Celis (1925-2011) and the rise and fall of his brewery. I drank some Celis way back when but remember almost nothing about it, probably drank the white/witbier, probably didn't like it much.

Today's a new day, and I wanted to start with the pale bock.

The creamy thick beige head of foam, the first whiff of dusty yeast dried apricot and the big chunk of earthy dirt hops right up front highlight this beer. Over time the nose opens a little into a fruitcake/caramel aroma mixed with the earthy hops, but the flavor never opens up much ... even as it warms, the sweeter malt note of caramel/toffee remains subdued inside the massive amount of earthy hop flavor.

At times it almost tastes a little medicinal, but the more I drink it, the more I wonder ... the flavor is tasty, not like rubbing alcohol, it's just very earthy. And a thin coating of minty numbing menthol seems to linger in the aftertaste. Again, it's not necessarily off-putting because the beer still tastes good. Just an interesting note to watch for as I work through the sixer.

    Cheers!

Sure thing man, it literally sits on the shelf all year. I can go get 4 packs of 2016 right now. The new batch should be hitting here this month I think. Glad you loved it, I am a big fan of it as well. Though I usually only have it a couple times a year.

My second beer from 1940's Brewing Company, located a short drive from here in Holbrook, NY... My first was Wicked Chowdah, a "NE-style" IPA that I didn't particularly fancy... This one here is a single malt, single hop DIPA with a typo on the label...
Or am I simply unfamiliar with Mosiac hops?
Anyways... Features Maris Otter malts and Mosaic hops... Has an overall hearty, dank, resinous character - woodsy and tacky, with a shellac of bitterness... Fruit-like elements are subdued... tastes like maybe a bit of the alcohol slips through... Relatively big-bodied, smooth, with little palpable carbonation... No canning date, but presumably fresh, having just been added to the database a few days ago... I'm gonna say I'm not a fan of this either, but I have another can in the fridge, so I'll see if my feelings change when I come back to it...

Hi there all you NBS'ers. Today is share day for NBS BIF #6, and I have 2 blind beers to share.
Both of these, plus a bunch more new ticks and some personal favorites were sent to me by @LloydDobler. Thanks again @LloydDobler!

    First up was this one:

L: goldish yellow color with almost no head, the small head that faded super fast with clear.
S: This has a very appealing smell. Little tart smell with lemon and possibly some mango or other fruits.
T: Not as sour as I expected and almost no fruit flavors, either my smell is off or they just are not coming through. My guess from the taste is a saison of some kind. I suspect it has been in some sort of barrel, but no idea what kind because I don"t taste any.
F: Feels light and easy with low carbonation. Feels in line with a saison.
O: Easy drinking beer and it smells great. Taste does not have a lot going on, but it is generally pleasant. I liked it and if offered would drink it again.

    The reveal:

Got the saison right and the barrel was oak. Only 3 ratings of this and I will be the first review.

After reading through some of this thread, and realizing how a fair amount of BAs know each other, I'm going to admit that if there's anyone who I have connected with over the years and got to meet is @Roguer . Thank you for being a fellow military guy that has connected with me in the real world. You sir are a great BA, friend and am happy that many positive things have happened in your life. You have a heart for genuine relationships and your selflessness leaves you practically flawless. I hope many blessings continue to occur in your life.

Well, hell, man, I feel I just "roasted" you, but if anything, you're deserving of the respect of many BA's.

    As for today's beer:

Well I am out in Canada, which has plenty of new beers for me, as I spend some time with the folks and enjoy some tasty pints.

What's new for our hero today?

Amsterdam Boneshaker IPA | Amsterdam Brewing Company

Amsterdam Brewing Company - Boneshaker Unfiltered IPA
    by imbibehour, on Flickr

    ------------------

Poured from the can into a tulip/globe glass.

Orange copper body with a nice glowing appearance. Head is creamy forming with a fine two fingers of bubbles and some small ring and pill like lacing. Colors the top light khaki to off white and a thick bowled collar as it settles.

Nice basic hop angle. Floral and citrus notes, touching with a strong but somewhat sweet pineapple quality. Soft bodied malt presence with light caramel sweetness giving a simple balance. A pretty straight forward and solid brew.

Palate goes for a very nice fruit mix. Hop angle flavorings of citrus orange, and spritzy pineapple like juice making for a very memorable first sip. Mouthfeel comes off strangely slightly flat and with an almost fine carbonation, hinting of fizzy character. Juiced orange finish with a light nearly toffee to caramel sweetness on the finish.

A very odd mouthfeel takes down some of the beers qualities which are otherwise solid. Not bad.

    look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75 | BA Generated 3.83
