Back home from Brown County state park. It's about 4hrs south of my home. My wife and I decided that it would be a great place to celebrate the 13th anniversary of our first date. The cabin was a little less rustic than I was expecting, but it was awesome all the same. Plenty of hiking and other all around "nature stuff" was experienced. We enjoyed the hell out of it and will definitely be going back when we have more time.

Now that I'm settled back in at home I will be having Chuckanut German style Pilsner kindly gifted to me by @beertunes . The pour is a crystal clear yellow, with a large collar of foam that was almost like it was whipped and had decent sized sizzling craters. The nose that I can gather beyond my stuffed nostrils is feint grass. Sorry, this is going to end up being kinda generic. Nose and buds aren't playing along. Taste starts with a crisp earthy pop with mild sweet buiscut after. Thin feel with fine bubbles washing over my tongue. This is a fine brew that I could see myself drinking regularly. It's a nice change of pace from the heavy hops and huge malt bombs I've been having lately.

I have too agree 100% that is's to much work. By the time you debone the chicken and the duck and most of the turkey you have hours of time there and then if you blacken the chicken and duck before you put them in the turkey add more hours. Then to cook the thing for 12 hours at 250* it's another day. I did this once for Christmas but probably never again. It turned out great but would have fed about 50 people.

FWIW, that has won GABF Gold in the past, along with the Kolsch you got. By taking a road trip, am I to assume there were no wings this weekend?

Or, me. I don't eat veggies, meat, cheese, desert, bread, and beer are my menu items.

None at all. Almost ordered some from a hole in the wall that we stopped at, but ultimately passed. I guess I'm just a sucker for a meatloaf sandwich! I have a touch of a cold, so I don't think I could judge to style today, but it was really enjoyable. Already had the Kolsch and enjoyed it as well. Shared it with my buddy who is cicerone certified, and he said that it was spot on.

At the risk of sounding like a homer, Cnut is probably the best Lager brewery in the country. If I hadn't been so late witj your box to begin with, I would have waited a few more days, so I could have included a bottle of their Bock.

Victory black forest cake stout, solid black color, medium body . Aroma is roasted malt , coffee, and overly sweet cherries. Taste was identical but the cherry came off as too sweet and almost artifical. If there was some cocoa to balance the cherry, create a dry finish it might have worked better[IMG]

You might just be right, you are really sounding like a homer. Ha! I kid, I kid. Solid brews for sure! Some places just don't know how to perfect the basics and they jump head first into RIS and huge hops. These guys seem like they have it down.

Happy New Beer Sunday, everyone! Today I have the rare privilege of having almost entirely new beers in my fridge, so picking just one, (or, at least, picking the first one) was a challenge. I decided to go with one from Ithaca Beer Co.'s Box of Hops. This year was the first year I finally bought it.

The first beer I decided to pick from it is Dr. Zaic Dr. Zaic, a Mosaic IPA. Neat-looking purple can.

The beer poured out a hazy amber color with a small white head. The aroma is amazing--Mosaic for days. This is why it's one of my top favorite hops. Tons of blueberry, fairly sweet, almost grape-like, like grape soda or Concord grapes. You also passion fruit, grapefruit, caramel, and some earthy resin. Smells amazing.
On the palate, you get grapefruit and orange upfront, along with some passion fruit. You get a smack of a caramel malt sweetness, then an awesome rush of blueberry hard candy. The definitive trait of Mosaic in all its glory. I don't know what the abv is on this, but you get a touch of alcohol warmth, and then a dry, piney, slightly spicy finish. There is some mild bitterness near the finish, but it's fairly clean. There's no lingering bitterness.
The mouthfeel is medium-full, slightly chewy, moderately carbonated.

Yes, I'm pretty impressed with this offering from Ithaca. Really tasty with excellent Mosaic character.

    Hello New Beer Sunday!!!

Wow! What a day at work. I truly need a beer after the just crazy day at work. I also need a day off so bad, but will have to wait for Thanksgiving for that.

But, on to the beer, because my pizza is getting close to being done.

This has been sitting in my fridge for a long time, to be honest. That being said, since it's an Imperial IPA, I'd say it's held up damn well. The hops were still there, and quite delicious tasting. Just wish I could have had it fresh, to see if it was different/ better.

This beer pours a murky golden color. The head was white, frothy, 2 finger. Retention was moderate. Minimal lacing on the glass.
The nose has a pleasing hop aroma. I get grapefruit, and other citrus aromas on the nose.
Taste is interesting. Citrus is mellow, but there, and is more on the backside. Up front I get something that is hard to describe, though I do like the flavor.
Feel is quite full bodied, and the hops do linger in my throat.
This beer has been sitting in my fridge for quite a while. I've never had it fresh, but I would say that it's held up quite well.

I think I'll end NBS with this. I do have a beer in mind for NBS 666, and I'd say it will fit in with the number quite well.

    See you all next week.

Hello New Beer Sunday. The Eagles are on their bye week so I spent a lot of the day running errands and catching up on reading and relaxing along with a couple of new beers. First up is Counter Weight Brewing Companies Headway IPA:
16 oz can poured into a teku glass.
L: Golden with a little bit of haze. 4/5
S: Tons of melon, some mango, some tangerine and pine. 4.5/5
T: Pretty bitter and not as juicy as I expected. Lots of pine, and noticeable malt flavor. 4/5
F: Smooth mouth feel with medium carbonation. 4/5
O: A good tasting and great smelling IPA. The can is a little old so that might be why it's not as juicy as I'm reading it is in other reviews. 4/5
Which resulted in a 4.12 BA generated score.

Next up is Collective Arts Brewing's Collective Project: IPA No. 2
    [IMG]
Poured from a 16 oz can dated May 17th 2017 into a teku glass.
L: Pours a golden honey color with some haze making it difficult to see through. About 2 fingers of white head that take a while to settle down. Tons of lacing remain on the side of the glass. 4.25/5
S: Mostly pine with some notes of grapefruit and another fruit I can't quite figure out. 3.75/5
T: Citrus upfront followed by the pine and some bitterness on the finish. 4/5
F: Medium carbonation with a smooth creamy mouth feel. 3.75/5
O: An easy to drink IPA. It is an older can so I'm thinking the flavors and smell have changed a bit. 4/5 which resulted in a 3.93/5.

Moderate pour yields a 2 inch light tan head over a very dark brown body with some sticky lacing. Nose of roasted malts, dark chocolate, bitter chocolate, caramel, and vanilla. Taste has attributes of malted milk, aforementioned chocolate and vanilla with the rye whiskey spice of pepper coming out very nicely. Nice feel and overall, I'm a sucker for anything aged in WhistlePig Rye barrels. Cheers!

All Cnut brews (except for the occasional English IPA or Stout) is Lagers. The Kolsch is my go-to, but they make some smoked brews I love too.

Good evening and happy New Cold Brew Sunday! Looks like a LNNBS contribution again for me. Just got back from a weekend getaway in Bend, and on the way home, made a few stops. One of them being in Sisters where I picked my review beer up. Made a stop and explored the beautiful and eerie level controlled Detroit Lake:

    And a quick riverbend stop:

But now, it's time for the brew!
    Three Creeks
    Frontier Justice-
Imperial Stout with local cold brewed coffee from Sisters Coffee.

Frontier Justice pours absolutely solid and pitch black. A dark tan foamy, almost nitro creamy looking head caps the liquid below with a one finger thickness. When it settles, it looks like the frothy on an espresso and leaves some fingerprint like spots on the glass.

Coming out of the bottle is an instant aura like waft of roasted coffee. Reminds me of coffee ice cream with it's sweet chocolatey undertones.

Coffee, coffee, coffee! The flavor once again is dominated by the roasted brew. And again with some sweet chocolate and some toasted bread.

The texture is just right. Smooth and creamy, rich. The alcohol is hidden, and it's easy to drink.

If you're a fan of espresso, this one is great. I'm a fan of all things coffee, so it's great for me. A perfect night cap too, on a chilly night. Hell, might make for a great breakfast beer as well. Cheers!

I gave this a 4.28 rating with an rDev of +8.6%. and well deserves in my opinion!

[IMG] Poured aggressively at near room temperature, bottled on 8/18/17 and got a rather large 2 finger tan head that leaves some nice patches of lace behind as it slowly settles into a thin layer of bubbles. 4.25

Smell is bourbon, char, leather, pipe tobacco, dates, and oaked vanilla. 3.75

Taste bourbon front to back, some smoke, dark fruit, tobacco, leather, and oak actually much better than the nose. 4.25

Mouthfeel is a tad bigger than medium, silky smooth with gentle carbonation, a little dry on the tongue, and drinks easy enough for 11.3% ABV, but definitely a slow sipper. 4

Overall this is a very nice stout, the nose and whiskey smell can be a little intimidating but it all blends once you start drinking it. Nice and different BA Imperial Stout. 4

Starting the final chapter of Stranger Things 2 after finishing this final new beer for today. Pardon my brevity on this one as it's been a long day and weekend. A pint can of Windmill Brewing Memes? MayMays? I've Heard It Both Ways milkshake style IPA with pineapples. I purchased this at the brewery release last Saturday.

A good beer, but it falls a little short in taste for me. Too much citrus and floral with very little pineapple. Here's the review I'm too lazy to expand on tonight.

    Have yourselves a great week!

Little late today, but still got one in. First Hoof Hearted stout and it was a big one. Fitness Freak. I actually forgot to check the percentage on this, until I had almost finished it. It drinks very easy for a 14% beer. Thanks @Bum4ever

L- Pours a dark, thick black with a tinge of brown head visible on first pour.

S- The coffee is most noticeable with just a slight boozy smell. Definitely a strong beer.

T- First sip, while still cold, was a lot of coffee and not much else. I let it warm-up a bit and could notice more of the vanilla and just a bit of maple.

F- It's a thick beer. The coffee stays around longer than the other flavors.

O- It's a tasty beer. Drinks very well.
