This amber colored IPA surprisingly allows you to see through it. It tastes of generic tropical gummy candies made with Aspartame. Sweet, fruity and weird... and not really enjoyable.

Oskar blues ten fidy imperial barrel aged stout
    ...solid black
..medium light carbonation, above average body with a bit of an oily feel.
.. aroma is roasted malt, bourbon, black coffee, just a bit of dark and milk chocolate
...taste is alcohol, bourbon but not sweet.roasted coffee and malt.
..overall it's not too sweet and matched with coffee bitterness and plenty of alcohol heat. It's a sipper and gets more intense and bitter as it warms[IMG]

I picked up my next new brew a couple of weeks ago in Brunswick, GA, and it's clearly from some little local brewery I've never heard of, Wyndridge Farm Brewing.

......aaaaand it's located in Pennsylvania. What the what?

Anyway, this brew is their Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout, a huge beast of a beer with a wax cap and a beautifully understated bottle.

At first, this beer poured flat, but over time a very nice ~1-finger head of dark brown foam developed. Overall, the beer is beautiful, with an inviting, dark black body. The nose is overall restrained, but displays the expected notes of bourbon, coffee, chocolate, and dark fruit, as well as a bit of char one might not expect in an "American" (vice "Russian") Imperial Stout.

The flavor profile backs that up, with a wonderfully straightforward BBA imperial stout profile (brown sugar, caramel, bourbon mash, burnt coffee, dark chocolate, and dark fruit) along with some char. A modest amount of heat on this full bodied beer.

Man, I've been bouncing back and forth in the ratings on this one - but all in very, very good territory. Exceptional, really; normally, a BBA imperial stout from a brewery I haven't heard of before is underwhelming, at best, but this one is nothing shy of greatness, and the locals aren't skewing the numbers here. April 2017 blend. Incredible gueuze style. Great fluffy head retention, spotty soapy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big tart/sour lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, cherry, plum, raspberry, gooseberry, passion fruit, papaya, mango, guava, red/green apple, white grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, oak, peppercorn, wet wood, and leathery/musty/lacto funk; with some wheat, cracker, white bready malts; lighter white wine vinegar, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate lactic tart/sourness, Brett/wine tang, and yeast/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation, light-medium body, and moderately crisp finishing. Balanced grainy malts, lactic acid, wine tang, and oak tannins in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing acidic/tangy/tannic/carbonated dryness, minimal puckering sourness. Very smooth, not overly lactic, 6%. Amazingly well rounded classic barnyard Brett/Bacteria complexity, great oak presence, and solid pale/wheat malts against acidity. Highly impressive, spot on style example as expected. 4.3

Greetings All from the Great Northwest, where we are not too into the Super Bowl. It should have been the Saints.

So today we have Feather Weather Mocha Stout from Black Raven.
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/19765/262714/
A decent stout, if not a little on the sweet side.

One of my favorite breweries, but aside from the tap room, which is about 250 miles from my home, we don't see much of their brew.

I missed the first half of the big game (1 field goal) bottling a Biere de Mars. Tasted pretty good going into the bottles, so I am looking forward to March.

    Until next time,

    Happy Trails!

A little bit late to NBS this evening, but here now! Cracking this baby, which was a recent Tavour beer. This is a Scotch Barrel-Aged Imperial Brown from Pfriem. Poured from fridge temp and allowed to warm. Pours very dark brown (almost black) with quickly dissipating brown head. Nose is scotch, roasted malts, chocolate, and dark fruit. Taste is pretty good, but I'm not blown away. A bit of grapes, scotch, licorice, burnt wood, plum, tobacco, bread, and nuts. The flavors don't really come together in a complimentary way, but rather haphazardly. Don't get me wrong, this is good. However, it's not my favorite of the style. Mouthfeel is medium bodied. Overall, this is pretty good.

This is kinda the way I feel about the whole category of Brut IPA's. Just doesn't do it for me.

    Well Hello Late Night NBS!
We're getting hit by some heavy rains here. Nothing as daunting as what many of you folks have been facing, but still some serious downpours. I actually had to go chop out some stump, and drill, and eventually break open some drainage in a cinder block wall due to the back up of water against the east side of my house. I guess I could take heart that the temps allowed me to do all of this in shorts.
Anyhow, I'm hitting Mystery Beer #6 from @akatz821 in our NBS BIF #8.5. His hint to me was, "one slice works."
Pours golden, fluffy white head pushes a finger high. Slightly turbid, but not hazy.
First aromas that leap to the nose are, alfalfa?
Hmm, grassy hop pellets. Alfalfa, green alfalfa, moist alfalfa. Did I say alfalfa? Ok, I said, "alfalfa." And there's a hint of orange blossom honey now too. But wow, this is green.
Taste is luscious green hops. Grassy, tender bitterness, green, earthy, oh so subtle floral citrus notes, biscuity malt, and I am seriously reminded of being at a brew supply shop, cupping a small handful of hops and sniffing them while I roll them around. This is delicious.
Mouthfeel is medium, slightly slick, and a tad soft. Carbonation is light to moderate. No ABV heat. A really pleasant sipper.
So I'm guessing an IPA with maybe some oats as part of the grain bill.

A lot of beer geeks are fickle. Now that Fremont has upped their production and its available in greater quantity, some have gotten blasé about it. Plus, a lot of people nerd out about the various variations like Coffee or Spice Wars.

OK, I think I figured this one out.
Singlecut Beersmiths is the brewer. And upon looking them up, I do see that "Mastery Knows No Shortcut" is a name of a beer, not a motto, as I suspected. It's an Imperial IPA. Canned on 10/23/18 stamped on the bottom along with "GIV 'ER"? I don't know what that means, but this is one delicious.

Loved this one. And the hint, " One slice works." "Single cut," I get it.. Thanks Man. Another stellar hit.

Cousin in PDX has a couple Coffee variants for me this year. I'm sure they'll be fantastic, but I'd buy up all the non-variant BA Dark Star I could find if I could. Perfect slow sipper by a campfire in any season for my palate/preferences. Now I just need to find some Black Butte XXX in my area, it's never been this challenging the past 10 years...WTF Norcal Distributors....

    Canned 12-12-18 into Silhouette glass.
L: Cream colored. Standard haze. Creamy off-white head that refuses to die. Spotty, yet sticky lacing.
S: Fresh tropical. Base orange/citrus is pleasant.
T: Excellent balance between the tropical and citrus flavors.
F: Smooth, creamy.. low on the carbonation and bitters. A light back-bite .. maybe the alcohol trying to poke its head in.
O: Excellent tasting, full of flavors.. however, for a higher ABV, it's regular in the smell and look. Feel is quite adequate.

Same here. It's at every New Seasons around. Along with CBS, Abraxes, BCBS, etc. Crazy times when stuff like this just sits on a shelf at a chain grocery store.

"Mastery Knows No Shortcut" is actually their motto. The picture of the beer in that link appears to be "Conform or Be Cast Out."

Deep and dark body; frothy, sticky head; lots of sheets of foam and rings of lacing inside the glass. Sweet and dark roasted grain aroma; cocoa and bittersweet chocolate. Chocolate and boozy taste; cocoa; some alcohol. Heavy body; sweet and spongy; bourbon heat.

A nice, very balanced barrel-aged stout.
