I almost forgot about this American Wild Ale from Foam Brewers that was gifted to me about a month ago. I've always enjoyed their sours more than their IPAs.
    Thanks Sven!

    375 ml. bottle.
Moderate pour yields a nearly one inch white head over a slightly hazy, golden body with some sticky lacing. Nose of citrus, slight white wine, and slighter oak. Taste mirrors nose but the flavors are definitely more intense than the aromas. There is a bit of funk present and alcohol, for an American Wild Ale at 8.1% abv., is very noticeable. Nice and enjoyable, slightly tart finish. Real nice feel and overall, I'm diggin' this and would recommend this to everyone. Cheers!!

The above quote is from a NBS thread earlier in the month. Today is the day I gave my kids the stout ice cream telling them that it was chocolate. It's really hard to fool them and they knew daddy had beer ice cream in the fridge. Anyway, I gave it to them, told them it was chocolate, and the youngest literally cried when he tried it. "I don't want beer ice cream!"

    New Beer Sunday: Belgian Tripel

Evenin’ NBSers and an alert for fans of Allagash beers.

This evening’s new beer is their Barrel & Bean which is a bourbon barrel-aged Tripel blended with cold-brewed coffee.

Since this is a sipping beer my review will be subject to revision for a reasonably long time.

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/4/83035/?ba=drtth#review

The aromas/flavors of this beer include the coffee up front with some light bourbon, vanilla and oak. There’s also some light green orchard fruits and a hint of pepper. I enjoyed trying this beer more than I expected and have found it sippable and tasty. I think that the addition of the coffee with the flavors of the Tripel are an interesting combination especially as the various flavors come and go over time. It would work well as a digestif for post dinner enjoyment when entertaining friends. I’m adding it to my “have again sometime” list.

Tonight, for a change of pace I’m watching a borrowed DVD that features some classic comedy routines. The routine on the player right now has to be one of the best ever and makes me wish these two guys were still around.

    Cheers, all!

New Mule beer. This was awesome. Great creamy/rocky head retention, spotty soapy lacing. Great clarity. Aromas and flavors of big lightly tart/tangy lime, citrus peel/zest, ginger, lemon, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, melon, apricot, passion fruit, red apple, and light peppercorn/pine hops; with moderate cracker, spicy rye, toasted biscuit, light honeyed malts; and herbal, floral, woody, grassy hop earthiness. Light pine, citrus peel/zest, herbal, floral, woody, grassy bitterness; and peppery ginger/rye spiciness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body, and fairly crisp/clean finishing. Balanced creamy/bready/grainy malts and sticky hops/spice in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing bitter/spicy dryness; no hop/spice astringency. Very smooth, pretty refreshing, zero warming 6.5%. Slight lingering ginger heat through the glass. Awesome balance between vibrant lime peel, ginger, and citrus/fruity Citra hops; with a great clean bready pale/rye malt backbone. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp drying. Would buy again. Nailed everything I expected for the style. 4.1

This one is from a new brewery for me, courtesy of @akatz821 !

    Beer: BBHCFM
    Brewery: Barrier (Oceanside, NY)
    ABV: 11.1%
    [IMG]
From a 16 oz. can into a whiskey/tumbler glass, this beer pours out very dark brown with ruby highlights running throughout while forming a finger width of khaki colored bubbles to rest on top.

As soon as the can cracked, I get whiffs of pine and resin. Putting my nose in brings them with more prominence while also introducing me to notes of grapefruit and hints of milk chocolate.

The taste starts in by showing you pine, clean resin and a bit of that grapefruit before it gracefully transitions into notes of caramel, milk chocolate and ever so slight roasty, charred malts. Really well balanced between everything going on.

Scarily smooth at a touch over 11%. Offers a touch of bitterness but hardly any of that alcohol shows through. Not syrupy, or too sweet and doesn’t sit too heavy on the body for the style, despite the ABV.

Overall, this is a very nice and enjoyable brew in the style that they went for. Let alone the high ABV and dangerous smoothness of it.

    Thanks Azi and cheers NBS!

Wasn't sure what to expect for this when I saw it at the store but thought WTF and picked up a single. Today's a pleasant summer day so why not.

Poured into a DFH tulip and got a fluffy white head over a light rusty orange body. The head faded quickly. Smell is of tropical fruit and salt. Taste is slightly salty orange syrupy with a tequila bite, like an orange Sea Quench on steroids. Some other BAs have complained about this tasting too much like a cocktail instead of beer but I think this falls well within the Leipzig Gose wheelhouse; just a sipper instead of a pounder. Mouthfeel is perfect for the style; maybe a bit too much for the alc level.

I'll probably pick up at least another one of these.

This was maybe the first barleywine I had. If not, one of the first few and the first one that showed me what barleywines can be.

I just had the most recent release and it didn’t live up to be what I remembered, since I’ve had so many other great examples now. But it was still good, nonetheless.

Anyways, enough rambling. I quoted this to tell you I think your review is spot on of this brew.

    Cheers!

    Greetings, fellow NBSers,

Hoopfest weekend here in Spokane. An estimated 24,000 people played 3-on-3 b-ball on the downtown streets.Today it's 83° and partly cloudy. While probably seeming pretty warm for the folks hustling on the courts, it's neither 100° or cold and raining, both of which has happened in previous years.

Didn't do much beer drinking over the past week, partly because I'm still adjusting to a new work schedule that sees me going to and returning home from work later than I've done for years, and partly by design. I'm heading off to Hawaii for 10 days in August, and I need to spend less money between now and then, plus it wouldn't hurt my physique to be a little less curvy when I'm on a beach in swim trunks, as well as better for those around me who might otherwise be calling the Coast Guard about the whale washed up on the shore...

Today I'm hitting my first Treehouse beer, courtesy of @ovaltine:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/28743/376504/?ba=woemad#review
A deceptive beer, at first it seemed like a total adjuncty flavor bomb (and, yeah, it mostly is), but it's better balanced than it initially seemed, plus the adjuncts (maple syrup, coffee, vanilla and cinnamon) don't mask the base beer, which is a somewhat high octane milk stout. Not exactly a session beer, but I really enjoyed it, and would hit it again as either a dessert beer or have it alongside a sweet breakfast. Thanks, Mike!

Agreed. As we have discussed in the past, Florida has a handful of breweries that nail certain styles/flavor profiles within a limited range...letting the secondary market speak for itself...I’m partial to Westbrook, due to its broader scope of well done styles holding the regional flagship banner, but I now must come home and try more Creature Comforts offerings given your good advices...notwithstanding, CCB brews affordable top tier BA and non BA beers with the best of the breweries across our great country - Cheers pal!

For me this is among the best Flemish Old Browns I've ever tried. Evey time I decide to open a bottle to share with guests I also silently raise my glass to Duvel Moortgat for having saved it from extinction by buying Leifmans when it was failing.

Edit: I'd suggest the lack of skunking is the paper wrapper protecting the bottle from light.

Sherry BA Tripel. Time to get wasted . 2016 vintage. I guess I get to be the only review. This was awesome. Poor head retention as expected of 15%. Nice spotty lacing, lots of streaming carbonation. Aromas and flavors of huge golden raisin, lemon, orange, peach, plum, pear, apricot, cherry, sherry, red apple, red grape/wine, toasted oak, peppercorn, herbal, floral, and grass; with moderate oaken vanilla, honey, caramel, candi sugar, white bread dough malts; light clove, banana, bubblegum, leather, tobacco, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate peppery yeast spiciness, and light wine tang/tartness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation, medium-plus body, and fairly crisp/clean finishing. Balanced creamy/grainy malts, sticky hops, and wine tang/tannins in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing spicy/tangy/tannic dryness; no cloying, pucker, astringent. Dangerously smooth/soft sipping, mild increasing warming of 15%, minimal lingering booze. For as big as this is, you'd have no idea it was 15%. Aged amazingly for sure. Perfectly balanced between Belgian yeast complexity, sherry barrels, candi sugars, and pils malts. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp drying. Spot on for the style. Bumping up the score a point in overall, just because of the smoothness vs ABV. 4.1

Pours clear golden-yellow with a light chill haze and a fluffy eggshell head (4.25)

The nose is subtle and clean. Lemon, bread, grass, and white pepper (4)

The flavor is refreshing lemon and doughy bread with a lightly bitter finish. Very nice (4.25)

The mouthfeel is medium for the style with a moderately drying finish (4.25)

    Overall, a tasty pilsner I would buy again (4.25) - 4.19/5

[IMG] Poured into a 16 oz Nordic pint glass, canned on 6/25/19. Pours a very attractive hazy orange yellow with a finger sticky white head, that leaves wonderful thin lines of lace behind. 4.5

Smell is papaya, apricot, peach, pineapple, and grapefruit rind. 4.5

Taste follows tropical papaya, pineapple, and peach upfront with some bitter grapefruit in the balanced finish excellent. 4.5

Mouthfeel is bigger than average, soft gentle carbonation, a touch sticky, and drinks bigger than 6.5% ABV in feel and flavor, but still crazy crushable. 4.5

Overall this is another big winner from these guys, excellent stuff! 4.5

Did a mini-brewery crawl today in Houston. Tried two new beers:
    Karbach's Light Lager

    ... and ...

    Saint Arnold's Citrodos IPA:

Both beers were very good, around 4.0 or better.

The Karbach Light Lager tasted very much like a good adjunct lager, nothing crazy with a good mix of corn and light sweet malt flavor. It looked flat but had plenty of carbonation and enough heft to feel heavier than water. It's a 3.75-4.0 beer.

The Saint Arnold Citrodos is a very nice hop fix, loads of citra-hop flavor -- grapefruit peel, grapefruit and eventually mango as it warms and opens up. There's sweet bread malt that shows up about halfway into the beer that balances the earthiness. And this one was loaded with carbonation, some might say too much but I loved it. It formed a constant 1/4-inch layer of foam to drink through that was gave it a soft/crisp feel. It's a 4.0-4.25 beer, possibly even higher if you're fiending for a grapefruit bomb.

    I'll do full reviews later.

Hope your Sundays are going well!

    Cheers!

    16 oz. can.
    Canned 05/30/19.
Moderate pour yields a 3/4 inch light, golden body with some lacing. Nose of a bit of funk, a bit of orange, and a bit of wheat. Taste mirrors nose with a bit more tartness than expected, but in a good way. Very enjoyable with a nice feel and overall, I would have this again real soon, since I have another can.

Two new beers to me, first up New Belgium Hemperor HPA. The smell was quite enjoyable and the taste was a little muted in comparison to the smell but I would gladly drink again, and nice to find a higher ABV beer that is not a hop bomb and something different.

Second was Yards Sons of Ben Pale Ale. Very good and would gladly drink again.

And not new but I will end the evening with Founders Solid Gold Lager, may still count because they recently changed the packaging. I really enjoy this beer and for the price in my area just can't be beat.

#2, my buddy and I split this (BCBS Bramble Rye Stout). It was worthy of splittage (yes, I’m making up words).

Pours black with the ubiquitous dense dark tan head all BCBS pours exhibit. A truly beautiful beer, IMHO. The nose has the char and barrel notes also associated with BCBS, but the raspberry and blackberry aromas are very prominent.

Those aromas translate even better to
The taste, with the berry flavors providing a perfect counterpoint to the rich char and dark chocolate flavors, then folding nicely into the oak and vanilla flavors from the barrel.

The mouthfeel is a smidge thinner than some of the variants and the base beer, but not distractingly so. This is a really fun beer to dance with.
