An average pour from a 16-oz. can produced a fat finger of creamy off-white long lasting foam with broken arches of lace. Clear, shiny new penny copper color.

Bready malt greets the nose with toasted grains and faint pitted fruits, Very faint hop aroma.

The taste breaks the bread down to toasted wheat and rising bread dough, the fruit is now pear and dry grape. Neutral on sweetness and mildly bitter, wheat may be contributing to the bitterness more than hops. Quick clean finish and a mild bitter aftertaste.

Medium+ body and carbonated generously throughout. Soft and smooth, nice malt back bone. Alcohol is well hidden. Session-able and fresh (PKG 08/26/19), a true Maerzen.

I'm really enjoying that one- such a saturated amber malt profile, like a Vienna on steroids.

Happy Sunday NBS players. A warm and sunny day here on the island but I’m hitting the big city to watch the games and bar hop for good brews.

My new beer today is Rye Barrel Stout, a rye whiskey barrel aged stout, from Central Waters. This just hit here and I scored a few bottles the other day as well. The brew checks in at 11.6% abv.

A slick black pour with a frothy brown head. Th whose is densely floral with malt and chocolate. Those notes carry right over onto the initial sips. Added tones of the rye and barrel. Rather smooth on the flow and finish. Wonderful balance as with most of their variants. Additional notes of cocoa, vanilla, char, oak, and caramel. Full bodied but crazy smooth. Some slight alcohol heat but otherwise the high abv is well hidden.

Overall, excellent and one of the better newer variants that I’ve had so far. Probably put it in the low 4’s but I am gonna revisit the bottle version this week first.

L-The beer pours a hazy yellow with 2 fingers of irregular white bubbles topping it off. The head recedes to a thin film with spotty lacing.
S-On the nose there is orange and pineapple of moderate intensity.
T- There is a touch of the sweet fruit in the nose on the palate. Mid palate the beer transitions to a more pithy aspect which lingers to the end of the sip. The beer is lightly bitter.
F-Mouthfeel overall is on the lighter side of medium. Carbonation is light. The pithy bitterness leaves the beer finishing lightly dry.
O- It's drinkable if not memorable. Mouthfeel is a little lighter than I would prefer. It's worth a shot for tickers, but probably not going to garner a lot of repeat purchases given the saturated IPA market in Vermont.

New Beer Sunday Oktoberfest. I have never been to an Oktoberfest celebration, but I do have a beer for today. It is La Cumbre's version of an Oktoberfest.
    The beer was canned 08/29/19.
This a good-looking beer. Clear dark copper with a small beige head. A tiny bit of lacing.
Sweet malt, bready aroma. Herbal hops.
Caramel taste. Brown bread. Late herbal hops.
    Sweet and hoppy mouthfeel.
Unlike any other Oktoberfest I've ever had, but I liked it a lot.

The hops used are Simcoe, Idaho 7 and Mosaic. This brew is very hazy with a thick and lasting head. The aroma is strong citrus with a little grain. The taste is citrus with a strong malt presence The mouthfeel is full and soft. There is a long lasting dry finish. A nice refreshing beer.

Pours a clear dark amber with an inch and a half beige head that left a few islands of lacing, a continuous fine flow of carbonation. Smells of caramel, sweet malts, bread and a bit of grassy hops. Tastes of caramel, lightly roasted malts, bread, grass, mild nuttiness and a slight hop bite on the finish. Light bodied, medium, thin mouth feel, slightly dry and bitter finish. Not a very good example of the style.

If you’re still there I would recommend that Edmunds Oast barleywine, if you’re into that sort of thing.

    Good morning NBS
Thanks for the opening @cjgiant. There are several cities here in Indiana with strong German roots. My home town of Fort Wayne and my current home of Evansville are no exception. There is a local organization committed to keeping German heritage alive and every year they host a fairly authentic festival. I missed this year due to my work schedule, but I'm usually in for the food and drinks. Here's a quick peek...

On to today's new beer. I have the house to myself for a few hours and will take advantage with a beer that blew this week's beer budget...

    The review:
12oz bottled 07.24.2019 poured into a snifter at just above fridge temp 12% ABV. The beer pours dense, inky black with cola-like rusty brown head. The head fizzles away in about a minute leaving zero retention or lacing. The aroma reveals rum, baker's chocolate and darkly roasted malt. The taste is semisweet rum, chocolate, vanilla, oak and brown sugar all mixed together. The finish is mildly bitter with additional balance from the drying, tannin heavy rum barrel. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with less than medium carbonation. There is some prominent booze aroma and taste as the beer warms in the glass. Overall, excellent tasting, wonderfully crafted stout. I wouldn't repeat purchase at the price, but glad to have tried it.

Cheers all. I might get a chance to sample a new-to-me Oktoberfest later today if plans hold up. Enjoy the new beer in your glass!

@Dragginballs76 saw fit to bless me with some great SC beers, and one from 3F (no biggie), along with some coloring books. Some of my artwork is visible in another thread if you’re interested. Thanks for this one, and all the others Mike!

This is the Strawberry Rhubarb Pie variant of Westbrook’s Gose.

Look is a deep, cloudy pink with 2 fingers of head that has a pinkish/orangish tint. Aroma is salinity up front (on par for the Gose), and a spicy/sweet smell on the back end. The salty sweet thing really works in the taste of this beer! I have no idea what rhubarb tastes like, but what I get is salty up front, sweet strawberries in the middle, and a quick salty finish. Mouthfeel is thicker than normal for a Gose, but still below medium. Great prickly carbonation. Overall this is a fantastic offering from Westbrook!

It’s a blonde barleywine brewed with lactose and peanut butter. Very interesting. Definitely something to look into if you like peanut butter.

Good morning guys, great start as always. New beer for me is from Grimm, and it’s the first hoppy beer I’ve seen here in distribution , we’ve gotten their funky stuff for a few years. Anthos Hoppy Pilsner, 5% abv, single hopped using only Hersbrucker. Pours a very pale straw with a tremendous fluffy head that stuck around to the end. Very dry, maybe a touch of something along the line of flowers, super long finish. Nose matches the taste a bit of perfume without being off putting, I’d say unique as I’m unfamiliar with this particular hop. For something similar but just a bit different think along the lines of Trauger Pils, it’s close but not quite that cracker dry, and it’s a bit more fragrant, but they’re very close to my palate. Being paired today with Linguine with red clam sauce very Fra Diavolo compliments of a few fresh Serrano peppers.

A late thought it’s actually very close to Burials Shadowclock Pils, it has that same floral characteristic and I’ve seen that beer rated in the top end of beers in this class.

Hey, I learned something new today thanks to your pic. I was scanning the usual label descriptors and "doree" caught my eye since I've only seen that as a name for a Chimay beer. I didn't know what that word meant. Unless I'm reading it wrong, now I know it means golden in this context, as in golden blonde...just like "goud blond." Cheers.

Chimay also has indeed its own Blonde Dorée variant... it’s pretty low ABV (under 5%) but tasty enough IMO. Not my fave of Chimay but still pleasant and the only beer you can allow yourself if you’re supposed to drive an hour or so after.

Dorée is the accurate translation of Golden in French, wallon Belgian, québécois and so forth. Cheers.

Goose Island w/ Ron Pattinson and Wimbledon Brewery - Obadiah Poundage

OK, this beer was a huge want for me and it took a lot of effort to get thanks to difficult communication from Goose Island and small quantities. Huge thanks to @ktr5010 and additional effort from @FBarber

    From the brewer:
This beer is a blend of beer aged one year in an oak foeder and fresh beer (aka keeping and running beer). The most interesting aspect of this beer for me is that the brewers had old-school direct-fired brown malt recreated for the beer.

The beer is very dark brown. The large head has fantastic irregular bubbles but dissipates quickly. Smells of brett and blackberries. The taste brings new things to the mix. The first thing I get is smoked malt and charcoal. That’s followed by a bitter hop finish. The berries in the aroma eventually reveal themselves in the flavor too. There’s a hint of acidity. The feel is silky and without harsh carbonation. The beer is light and airy rather than heavy.

The overall result is delicious and highly drinkable. The thing that’s exceptional is that the various elements could be a total cacophony but somehow aren’t. It’s crazy. I could drink this by the bucket. Wish the bottle was bigger. Worth the effort.

    Got you a bottle @TongoRad
