This is blind from BIF @FBarber.

Super cold. Pours dark, ugh oh. Because it’s cold the nose isn’t much of a clue. But it’s not Stout though, it’s effervescent unlike most stouts. Zero toasty notes, not malty. Funky, definitely a bit funky, but pleasantly so, thin mouthfeel. Lots of carbonation here too, 1/8 in head that dissipates quickly.

I’m easy to fool because I’ve got the most unsophisticated palate in the world, I’m slow to try new things. So Frank taped a spontaneous combustion label to hide the beer, I hope it’s not a 15% beer, but it’s not boozy at all.

I’m also fairly uneducated about different beer styles. I don’t know if they make darker Saisons, Frank mentioned he didn’t send any in the box. A Flanders of some type? I’m thinking of the NG Ode Bruin I had a few years ago. The warmer it gets the more funk comes thru. I’m going to guess it’s a Flanders of some type.

Wow, as a Isley Whiskey guy I got funk not smoke, but it’s delicate too. That was my first Rauchbier from Dovetail Brewing, 5.6 abv. I read the smoke as funk, and even as it warms a bit both on the nose now and palate I still think funky not smokey. I’m about half done and it’s opening up a lot right now. The warmer it gets the more the funk turns to a light campfire, the finish is incredibly long too. Knowing what it Is start at 50 degrees not 35, it’s better at 55 than it was at the start, the smoke really shining thru.
Fucking delicious, I’m no longer a Rauch virgin.

Can ‘o Bliss from Oskar Blues presents as a cloudy pale orange can pour with a 1cm foam cap and a faint orange blossom aroma. The flavor is fairly full and tropical citrus, pineapple and orange rind are most prominent. The body is light. This is an enjoyable option for a “light “ juicy ipa

This is a wine barrel aged saison by my favorite brewery in Brooklyn. Don’t know much about this beer other than the limited information on the front of the bottle.

Tastes extremely dry with a muted lemon flavor and a nice minerality on the finish. Great food beer. Nose has a pleasing earthiness. Looks golden in the glass with a fair amount of haziness.

Glad to finally make a post here and years of lurking. And glad that I’m able to support a local business during these challenging times.

Good afternoon NBS, a gift from number 2 son is Area 2 from Two Roads. the 2019 Hexotic is a real treat. Fruited mixed culture, "Lambic style" Well done Mr Markowski
    Stay well all.
    Lambic Series: Hexotic

    Two Roads Brewing Company
American Wild Ale | 5.8% ABV

    4.26/5 rDev -1.6% | Average: 4.33
    look: 4 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Poured from a 375 ml bottle into the test glass. 2019 series
A - Goldenrod color, slight haze cant hide active carbonation. A thin cap quickly forms and quickly dissipates. Small clusters of carbonation contiually congregate on the surface.
S - Fruits like orange, papaya, cherry, all on a canvas of light toatsed oak, really complex in this aspect, tannins, backed with sharp berry notes blend well.
T - Jammy fruits, with enough acididty, toasted oak, and somehow in all this the cultures find a way to broadcast thier presence. Hints of spice, anise and cinnamonn are wrapped up in there.
M - Medium in body, tart start quickly equilibrates toward neutral , with a sharp bend on the palate. Finish has that spicy component coutesy of the mixed culture. Quite nice
O - A very good offering with only plusses in the right places. New World Lambic may be a stretch, but not a long one. Worth seeking out

Big beer Sunday. 750 ml bottle from Tavour, cellared for about a year. Opens with a small gush, dark brown with collar of beige head. Coffee, chocolate and cinnamon in the aroma. Taste comes in a little spicy, chili peppers, along with the nice sweet roast and cacao. Not bearing a lot of heat except for the peppers lingering on the tongue. I'll sip on this for a while.

Continuing through the Advent box... (and another from the box that is apparently brewed for the box by H. Egerer, this time a Memminger Brauerei bier).

Privatbrauerei H. Egerer Kartäuser Doppelbock Dunkel
    German Doppelbock
    ABV: 7.5%

    500mL can. EXP 05/2021 2019 Kalea/Costco Advent calendar box.

Dark hazy amber with moderate level of rising bubbles to a 1/2 inch off-white head. Lacing sheets left as the head recedes.

Aroma is sweet caramel, dark fruits, raisins, bready malts, spices.

Very flavorful, but not overly complex. Sweet caramel, spices, and bready malts. There is just a hint of bitterness toward the finish, but it goes away quickly, leaving a not-overly-sweet malty and slightly metallic finish and aftertaste.

    Feel is moderate with carbonation.

    Enjoyed it. A decent doppelbock.

Hey it's NBS! I find myself looking forward to this thread every week for quite a while now. Unfortunately it has become the only time I write a review lately. I have found reviewing every beer I put to my lips is like having a 2nd job. But hey, once a week is cool right? At least I have become consistent.

I say this on most of my posts lately, - I am only buying beer directly from local breweries for this period when they are not allowed open taprooms. Hopefully you are helping your locals also. Today I have Hop Glop from High Nine Brewing. I may post another of their beers today, or one from another local. We'll see how the afternoon goes.
Poured from a 22oz Growler (filled about 30 min ago) to a Nonic.
Pours hazy tangerine-orange in color below a stark-white medium sized head of small bubbles. Head only lasts about 3-4 minutes before becoming a single layer. Lacing is present, but unimpressive despite a hand-cleaned glass using water only.
Excellent nose of hop essence- A little dank, some mango, apricot, peach, even bitterness.
Taste is also great, mango and peach followed by a nice hoppy bitter finish.
Carbonation is slightly high and mouthfeel could be thicker, but neither feature is not much of a distraction. This beer is very enjoyable.

Pours a translucent golden straw with two fingers of white foam forming a thick layer over the top of the beer. Head retention is good. Aroma is straw, wafery, crackery, bready malts with very thin doses of herbal and floral hops. It smells light. Flavor profile follows the same path, hitting notes of wafery, crackery, bready, lightly nutty malts with herbal, floral and resiny hops over the top. Balance is slightly more towards malts giving the feeling of biting into a crispy slice of fresh bread. Mouth feel is crisp with a moderate and modest level of carbonation that greets the tongue initially and then echos away. Thickness is medium-thin. Overall, stand-up pilsner with a little bit of hop play; however, far from enough to distract or thwart the balance.

Smell is tangerine, pineapple, marijuana, coconut, and apricot. 4.5

Taste follows tangerine, coconut, pineapple start the party with marijuana and apricot in the bold and balanced finish. 4.5

Mouthfeel is bigger than medium, soft gentle carbonation, a tad sticky but not dry, and at 6% ABV it is bigger in flavor but really easy drinking. 4.5

Overall pretty darn impressive NEIPA at a moderate ABV, excellent beer as you would expect from one of the best breweries going. 4.5

My first Dortmunder tick! Yes, believe it or not. Per the style guidelines, this should be similar to a Helles, but more balanced, with a Pilsner-like hoppiness. I didn't find it such, but I did really enjoy it, nonetheless.

Getting some painting done, as well.

This beer is, simply, incredible. I love saisons (although I don't drink as many of them as I should, perhaps), and funky/sour saisons are included in that mix. This one has a ton of rustic, terroir-infused funk, a touch of sour, oak, and a wonderfully delicate malt base. It packs far more flavor into a low ABV package than any beer should, and undoubtedly has IPAs green with envy.

Lamplighter Rabbit Rabbit New England DIPA. Brewed with Citra, Amarillo, and Idaho 7 hops. 8.5% ABV. Canned 3/19, poured into a tulip.

A nice hazy orange in the glass with a healthy white head. Smell is peach, mango, a touch of dank. Taste is peach, mango, very fruity, slight herbal, spicy, dank. Low bitterness. Pretty soft, medium-full, a bit sweet and sticky on the finish.

Overall, this is a really nice NEIPA. Stands up to some of the big names, but this is on the shelf in my local stores. I’m not a big hazy drinker, but would definitely reach for this again if in the mood for one.

I actually wasn’t planning to buy this beer, but the other Lamplighter IPA that I ordered for a beer delivery was out of stock, so I ended up with this, and quite glad I did.

Hope all the BAs out there are feeling healthy. NY/NJ is really getting hit hard by this. We've had some family and friends affected and are just hoping for the best. It's been tough to keep our two young kids occupied throughout the day, especially when Mom and Dad are working remotely, but we're getting by. We've been taking the necessary precautions and staying in as much as possible while trying to support our local businesses. Made a run yesterday to the market for curbside pickup of our groceries that we ordered, then went down the street to Sourland Mountain Spirits for some provisions. It's located on the same property as Troon Brewing, a popular brewery in our area. I really like their gin!

My new beer is Genesee Spring Bock (formerly Bock Beer). Pictured below with hand cream to stop my knuckles from bleeding after all the hand washing and some light reading to keep me sane.

Beautiful deep amber color with copper highlights. Brilliant clarity. A large, off-white, creamy head retains itself very well.

Light caramel malt and toffee make up a very mild aroma. Sweet toasted malt flavor with very little hop presence.

Medium bodied, smooth, and clean. A nice beer for the late winter transition into early spring.

Good afternoon everyone! Knocked out some projects around the house this morning so I've earned this first beer. Up first today is a new beer to me - Phase Three Brewing Company's Polish-Style Pilsner. According to their website its brewed with "premium european pilsner malt", munich malt and Polish lubelski hops. I assume the use of Polish lubelski hops is what makes this a "Polish style pilsner". I am far from knowledgeable on hops, but I understand that lubelski hops are closely related to Saaz hops and have some similarities.

    As for the beer itself:

Pours a cloudy burnished gold color. Thin, weak frothy white head dissipates almost immediately, leaving no residual head behind. A thin bubbly ring of foam is retained along the outside of the top of the beer. Aroma has notes of sweet grains, some light white bread notes, and a light hop aroma that has notes of herbs (as in an actual herb garden), lavender, and a slightly spicy note. Taste follows the nose with notes of white bread, some sweet grains and a touch of doughy malts. Some herbal, grassy hops come through on the back end. the hops do have a unique character to them ... they have an herbal flowery character reminiscent of something like lavender. A light malty sweetness comes through. Overall the feel is appropriate for the style, soft gentle carbonation, medium bodied, lightly bitter on the finish. I must admit that I was really skeptical of the beer - this brewery is mostly known for their NE style IPAs and milkshake IPAs and I wasn't sure how ell they would brew a pilsner - but this was quite well done. Its essentially a german style pilsner with "Polish" hops. Either way, a very enjoyable beer.

Good Sunday afternoon, New Beer Samplers and commentators. Blind reviews of "mystery beers" received in the NBS BIF are always great fun. I received a box from @woemad with a crowler marked only "7.8%" and "3/10." Not knowing the style, I'll use a tulip glass, which is my favorite all-purpose glass. I took the crowler out of the fridge about 45 minutes ago since I don't know the proper temperature.

I'm glad I let it warm a bit because it's clearly a dark beer - most likely a Stout or Porter.

A ink black pour with a large, creamy, light mocha-colored head and a creamy film of lacing. It's a very pretty pour (4.25). It has a classic Stout aroma: roasted malt, chocolate, tobacco smoke, earthy char, and burnt nuts. (4.0). The taste is intriguing. It opens with a dose of roasty chocolate and mint followed by earthy char and burnt nuts. It's a nice balance and reminds me of Kane's Port Omna. There is a hint of hop bitterness at the finish. (4.25) It's medium-bodied and the carbonation has held up well in the crowler. It drinks easily for its 7.8% ABV. (4.25)

Overall, this is really tasty! As the glass warms the mint is accentuated and the chocolate is more discernible. It's a solid 4.25. Who brewed this fine Stout?

    The reveal:

Whistle Punk Brewing Co., in Spokane. I checked the website and I'm betting the house that this is the Peppermint Chocolate Stout! Fred knows I love Stouts and he really came through with this one. As I said, this reminds me a lot of Kane Brewing's Chocolate Peppermint Port Omna, which is high praise. A really first rate Stout. Thanks, Fred, for the chance to try it!

Picked this mystery beer compliments of the generous @Dimidiata, its wrapped in a “hair band” thats well after my classic rock times and I have no idea who this band is. Little help here BAs! Pours a dark motor oil with a bit of light coming through, beautiful head generated that recedes to a cap, smells of coffee, bakers chocolate, taste follows, very smooth little sweetness, I’m not getting any adjuncts and guessing this is a porter, maybe milk porter.

And the reveal, Moonlight Brewing, Death and Taxes Black Beer. I guess I was close, very well done beer, I love a black lager and could see crushing a few in session! Thanks Christine
