Purchased at the total wines in Wellington , Florida , Canned 1.23, opened 4.16, poured into a pint glass, hazy orange liquid , massive four finger rocky off white foam cap , very good retention , spotty lacing’s , settles to a layer

Aroma is tropical, citrus , orange, orange marmalade

Taste is tropical , orange citrus, hint of dank on the finish

Low sudsing , smooth , bit of booze but not overwhelming for a 10%abv tipa

    Good beer

    Zombie Ice
    8.5% (undead) Pale Ale

Light orange and clear body poured from a 19.2 ounce can. Decent head and lacing during the tasting.

I'm not going overboard in this review as the beer is a solid variation on the popular line of pale ales by 3 Floyds. I drank this one cold as I feared it would be too malty for my tastes.

At 8.5% this beer is both easy drinking and potent as the ABV is well hidden from taste. Nose and taste present a solid but not harsh bitterness and notes of orange citrus from the heap o' Citra they dropped into this one. The malt doesn't get too heavy on the palate but provides a background sweetness.

A solid big brother to Zombie Dust that I'd prefer in a twelve ounce can. It's too easy drinking for a 19 ounce can unless you're hankering for a good buzz. Not that there's anything wrong with that

If you like that, let me get you some Wild Ride IPAs. I had a whole flight of their IPAs that seemed like the most pot-forward beers I'd ever tried!

Wow NBS is running 1 page longer than WBAYDN...nice to see!
I have high hopes for this one because the single IPA is a very good under the radar beer. Truth be told I had my fingers crossed that when I poured it it wasn't going to be hazy and hallelujah!
Pours a clear burnished gold with a slightly off white creamy head. Nice lacing as well
Classic WC on the nose - citrus, pine, grapefruit, floral notes and mild tropicals, crackery.
Taste is orange, grapefruit, lemon, citrus pith and pine bitterness. Honey malts, clean and crisp, snappy carb keeps this from getting heavy. Bitterness is excellent - no hint of alcohol or cloying sweetness.
Finishes dry and wanting another sip for 8%. Exactly what I was hoping for in a big bold IPA in the Cali style. If you're into it highly recommended.
    Cheers![IMG]

    Happy NBS all!
Jonathan wanted to know what I thought of this beer that he assaulted my porch with recently (NBW BIF #17) and I wanted to know what it tasted like, so here we are.
Thanks to @NorsemanOne for sending this to me.
Poured such a beautiful golden orange that I took two pictures of it. Sadly my phone camera sucks, it looked amazing in person.
The off white head was short, short lived and left no lacing. The only quibble on the appearance.
The aroma is sadly lost on my Covid affected nose.
The taste is full of the expected light cloves and a little banana bubble gum, and these floral flavors that just flit around the edges. Quite nice.
The feel seems to be more viscous the deeper you get, I think that’s because the carbonation starts out active and just goes away.
At 11% you probably want to sip this anyway.
Good beer, much enjoyed. Thanks Jonathan!

    Bewilder - Fresh Sesh IPA

16oz can served in a big snifter. No date. Got it in a trade with @NorsemanOne.

Pours clear light golden with a small, coarse, fluffy head and not a lot of active carbonation. Smell is light, but I get mostly lemon.

Taste is also light, though a bit more assertive than the nose. I do get a little lemon, but I also get a little bit of biscuit dough, some generic floral sweetness, a medium-intensity citrus rind bitterness.

Mouthfeel is very light and very crisp. Overall, it's a pretty good "session" IPA or hoppy pale ale.

A - Dark mahogany color, excellent cap of tight knit froth. as the procedings continue a lingering ring clings to the glass.
S - Clove, banana, dark toast, earthy hops
T - Hints of caramel, pumpernickle, sweet fig jam, earthy woodsy
M - Lite on the palate, with a slightly sweet start , that quickly shifts, then dark bread, and a slight hint of molasses
O - A very enjoyable, and quite drinkable offering from this talented brewer. lagers are a strong suit here, and this does not dissapoint.

Good afternoon, Weekenders! I intended to get to round two of the Tree House Data Set side-by-side experiment earlier this afternoon, but after a food truck-induced mini-coma, it's been delayed until, well, NOW.

Round two features Data Set #2, with modern wild yeast, and Data Set #5, with English ale yeast.

I expected something akin to Brett or perhaps a souring wild yeast for #2, but the description suggested that expectation was incorrect. My experience further supports the description, so don't go into this one expecting anything funky. For #5, I didn't quite know what to expect, as I wasn't sure how much influence a much more traditional yeast strain would have against a modern hopping and dry-hopping schedule.

I am still operating under the assumption and impression that the base beer is designed not to be Tree House's biggest, craziest juice bomb, all to better highlight the differences between yeast strains. So far, that's tracking well, as none of these four have reached the kind of sky high ratings (from me, or others) one sees from Tree House's best, but they've all been very damn good.

Let's start with Data Set #2, brewed with wild modern yeast. Reviews are finished, but as I type this entry, I'll revisit the remainder of each beer in turn.

Right off the bat, this features a more expressive and fruity aroma than #1, but certainly less explosive than #4 (thiolized yeast). Stone fruit, guava, pineapple, and mango stand out, along with minor dankness and both bright green herb and pine notes.

Flavor is very similar, with mango, pineapple, very light dankness, parsley, vanilla, oregano, tangerine, papaya, berries, apple, pear. No guava or peach, so there's a small delta from the nose. This has a very complex fruity profile by comparison to the others.

There's a very herbal and green bitter finish, almost dull, semi-dry.

Four reviews in, I'd put this one comfortably in the middle of the lineup in terms of my personal enjoyment. It's more expressive than #1, less so than #4 or #5, and the flavor profile works very well, if imperfectly.

    4.23 / +0.2%

Data Set #5 is brewed with traditional English ale yeast, and if you thought that might contribute to a duller beer, the nose suggests you may just be correct, as there's an almost musty flatness nestled among the tropical fruit, pine, and green herbs. It's easily distinct from the others, and while still obviously an IPA, it doesn't remind me of a Tree House IPA.

The experience on the palate could hardly be more divergent. This thing is a juice bomb, easily as expressive as #4, and perhaps a better overall flavor profile. A huge hit of banana, guava, and melon leads the way in a profile dominated by yeast esters. There are clean notes of grapefruit peel on the bitter back third and finish, reminiscent of a WC IPA.

This one seems the best clear match for Tree House's approach to blending and using hops and their creamy, semi-sweet malt base. It's also the smoothest overall impression. Of the four I've tried, this is the one that most seems like a Tree House gem, one of those beers that from the very first sip, you know you've got something special.

Because of the less impressive aroma, this one is going to wind out weighted 0.02 below #4, which had just an insanely expressive nose, but in terms of pure flavor, this one is the current leader in the clubhouse. I'm super impressed.

As before, a note that rDev (and therefore average beer rating) for these is not a good indicator at this time, as they have few reviews. I have the only full review for #5 (no love for English ale yeast, I guess?), and they are all in single digit ratings.

From yesterday, here are my reviews for the other two of these I've tried:

Data Set #1 (Tree House house yeast)
    4.11 / -1.9%

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/28743/647737/?ba=Roguer#lists
    Data Set #4 (thiolized yeast)
    4.56 / +5.8%

I may have one more new beer in me today, but I'm not sure. 32 ounces of 8% ABV IIPAs is ... a lot. I may take these with me down for dinner prep.

High Gravity Brewing's Center of the Universe Midwest IPA, 6.0% ABV; 3.79 overall

Pours a bright & effervescent gold with a thumb of pearl colored head, Fantastic lacing & head retention

S: Grassy, bready, some herbal notes

T: Follows the nose, some cakeyness, plus dryness & pine up front. Dryness, grassy & woody hops, a little bit of lime & breadyness once this beer warms up. Finishes dry, piney, with a touch of lime

MF: Medium body, fairly firm carbonation, good balance

Good old school IPA, easy to drink

Cross posting this from BW thread.

Revolution Brewing: Ryeway to Heaven. Filled Dec. 2021 at a cheeky 15%. Brewed with over 60% rye and aged in bourbon and rye barrels.

L: Rich brown with red edges. Tan head that disappears quickly.
S: Familiar rich syrup and brown sugar notes. Patience brings notes of just dried paints on canvas. Wood desks soaked with decades of lunch time whiskey sins.
T: It lies to you with a big grin, easy drinking 10% it chuckles. Sweetness that has its expected cloying stopped dead by muted rye notes. The anticipated rye bite acts as a controller instead of a ruler on the pallet.
F: Carbonation is muted but still very present. Washes easily down seaking the pretzels awaiting it in the stomach.
O: It offers up the rye notes that rye lovers want, but in a way that is not so strong as to single it out for only such an audience. I really like how it impacts the sweetness and keeps it in check. This will rate highly on my beer list.

I know your move pre-dates the Expos moved to my hometown, but your old franchise did get to win one recently. Not that you could tell that looking at the current iteration of the team.

We're all able to judge things, but we're all also affected by our environment, among other things. I took a second yesterday to compare the DFH beer against Lagunitas IPA (in another thread) and the bitterness differences I perceived were fairly obvious and fun to dissect. Cheers!

Samuel Adams Take-A-Day IPA - After their new Lager I had yesterday I'm going into this with low expectations. At 35 IBUs and "Ale Brewed with Orange Peel" I don't expect this to be much of an IPA, modern or otherwise. Pours from a bottle (EB July) a hazy-ish light orange, decent head, very carbonated. Smell is sweet and there is some orange in there, maybe even a touch of Mango too, but no hops. Taste is alright, fruity and creamy and a touch of bitterness but still just a bit too sweet and things are not meshing well here for me. I think they went wrong making this 6%, as the alcohol may be adding to the sweetness, and they should have dropped the ABV and made it a session IPA or a Pale Ale. One and done for sure and I dumped it halfway through, as when it started to warm it got even more sweet and too muddled for me. Budmo!
