Back again, day 2, BBQ number 2 today, this time at my sisters. Back home now and cracking open a beer that I've had my eye on from @FBarber. I really enjoyed the other Art History beer I had so I'm looking forward to this one.

Art History - Gravitace (Czech Pale Lager 5.1%)

Aggressive pour yields quite a nice head; its got some decent legs and that initial pour left some good lacing and thick islands remain, clear but with a substantial haze, darker shaded pale in color.

Snappy nose on this beer, there is an immediate fresh cut grassy bite to it, malt is a good mix of both cracker and fresh bread, herbal touch on the finish, a little bit of spice too.

The taste leans heavily into those grassy hops, big time; malt shows more bread presence than the nose suggested, hops really linger on this one.

Light, but slowly verging to medium body; moderately dry, lingering hop feel coats the tongue with a moderate amount of bitterness, the carbonation is medium and smooth.

A nice hoppy Czehc (pilsner??) I'm not sure why they went pale instead of pils on this one; its hoppy like a pilsner but I do feel like it has a little more malty bread presence than I'd associate with a Czech pils, maybe this is why? Either way, this is a well made beer with a substantial hop presence, it really lingers for a while after the sip is gone. Thanks for sharing Frank, Art History if 2 for 2 in my books :beers:

    -------------------

I'll be back later tonight for one more new beer, keep up the good work everyone.

Yes, we get many great beers and breweries here, with Allagash, Oxbow and Maine the few we get from the NE, but I haven’t run into that particular offering yet. Will buy when I see it, as I try to buy all Allagash offerings.

Looking forward to possibly trying Sip of Sunshine and a few others for the first time soon with a box in the mail from @Ocalafox , the first time I have ever received mailed beer.

Happy New Beer Sunday all. We are in a dry spell (for Michigan, that’s more than 3 days without rain) and it’s warm and dry. If the holiday coming up was The 4th, the fire danger would be high.
But enough about the weather, we’re here to talk about beer, and I had a tasty one for such a warm day.
Poured a warm amber color that was more transparent than translucent (I could read through the beer) and crowned with a 2” manilla colored head that left plenty of lacing.
The aroma was lost on my nose still, stupid Covid.
The taste was excellent, a fine example of the German Pilsner. Grassy and bready with floral notes from the yeast, everything was balanced just right.
The feel was thin, which for a Pilsner is fine, but the label stated “Hazy” so I was expecting more particles. Not that I was saddened to not get them.
Good Pilsner, I’d certainly drink it again.

Next up on this beautiful Sunday is a New England IPA I purchased two weeks ago in North Carolina: Planet Pulp from Triple C Brewing Company in Charlotte. I didn't realize it was canned in January when I bought it and didn't have high hopes. But it still drinks pretty darn well. The bill of Mosaic, Citra, and El Dorado has held up well. This is a fine NEIPA; I never would have guessed the canning date.

It pours an opaque, pastel lemon-orange color with two fingers of fluffy, milk-white head and soapy lacing. It has a nice floral nose with notes of lemon, grapefruit, pineapple, and ripe melon. Like many beers brewed in the southeast it has a strong, sweet, bready malt base. Even at 4 months, the fruit tastes ripe. There is pineapple, berry/stone fruit from the El Dorado hops, lemon and ripe melon from the Citra, and red berry from the Mosaic. The flavors work well together. There is a soft, spicy bitterness throughout. This ale is fairly viscous and creamy with appropriate carbonation, and the 7.3% ABV gives it good substance without seeming overly potent.

All things considered I'm glad I bought a single can. I'd like to see the opinion of anyone who's had it fresh. Have a great week, everyone. Cheers, NBW!

    Finally made it here!

    No canning date

Purchased from the brewery last week.

Poured at fridge temp into a willi glass (recommended was a stange, but this is the best I got) at fridge temp

Pours a fairly pale mango yellow- very cloudy, nearly opaque- with a very aggressive beige/khaki head that settled pretty quickly. 3.75

Guava, but mostly passion fruit sweetness on the nose. Only the tiniest hint of tartness. 3.75

Initially salty (a pleasant plus) followed by sharp tropical fruitiness. No sign of coriander, but that's likely just me. 4

Very juicy, and mild carbo body that nears a dry finish. 4

Overall a delicious tasting and feeling summer quencher I'll certainly be back for. 4

Poured out a clear, dark amber color; dense, slow-rising carbonation; thin, light khaki colored head. Richly sweet, malty aroma; toffee and caramel notes. Densely sweet taste; heavy malt presence offset with a bold bourbon presence; spicy; licorice. Heavy mouthfeel yet not quite smooth for a barleywine; watery stickiness; boozy heat.

Bold yet brash. Too much barrel and not enough barleywine character.

A- dark as the deepest knight light carbonation fairy little cap. A thin ring continues.
S - all the hallmarks of bourbon barrel, blackstrap molasses, dark, brown sugar, dark age, fruit
T - follows the aromatic well, there’s a spiciness reminiscent of cinnamon and black pepper, overall outstanding
M - this is a thick offering hefty is the best way to describe it semi sweet Start and semi sweet finish

I have a couple of beers from NBS BIF #17 on a gorgeous day at the lake in Northern Indiana, but first up is a shot of the captain of the SS ovaltine from earlier today …..

Ranger has always been a lake dog, and as the captain of our pontoon, he’s always urging me to go faster in my role as first officer. Of course, Joy in her role as boatswain is always telling me to slow down.

No wonder I’m always talking to myself.

This evening’s first beer is from our friend @Coronaeus and is part of a porch smashing of Canadian beers he hit me with a few weeks ago.

Pours a very hazy, almost turbid straw color with a dense, creamy white head that provides significant lacing. The nose is filled with juicy peach notes, nectarines, pineapple, and passion fruit. Total juice bomb on the nose.

The taste is all about the juicy peach flavors, which taste ripe and are delicious. There’s also a really nice nectarine flavor, some pineapple, and more than a bit of passion fruit. Wow.

The mouthfeel is medium , soft, and juicy, on point for the style. Such a flavorful beer that hits my NEIPA sweet spot perfectly.

    Modernism- from Schilling.
Poured the color of cola, which was lighter than I expected, but the tan colored head set off the color nicely and it did look almost black in the glass.
The taste was almost everything I want in a dark Czech Pilsner, warm malts, toast, some caramel and chocolate notes, just really nice.
The feel was excellent for the style, except that it may have been too easy to quaff.
I picked up a 4 pack in Colorado (and they were in my checked luggage on the way back to Michigan) so I won’t have any past those. Bummer. But I will definitely enjoy them while I have them. Good beer!

L: Pours yeasty light gold w a 1+" pure white puffy & creamy head that has excellent retention, well carbonated w many steady bubbles, scattered thick broken lacing.
S: Banana bread, a hint of yeast, light clove, sweet, lightly floral.
T: Banana bread, clove, yeast, light fruit, pear, cereal grains, background apple skin, gently sweet.
F: Lightly crisp, clean, light bodied w a fast, soft lightly drying finish.
O: A top notch EZ drinking simple and great tasting beer. A real refresher. Try it with a lemon slice. Its lightly drying finish allows for frequent drinks. Hits all the right buttons and is excellent in its style.

Pours an onyx black color with a sudsy dark tan head that fights hard to linger. The has a lot going on, with rich milk chocolate notes, roasty coffee, maple, cinnamon, and an inordinate amount of vanilla.

The taste is like French Toast that’s soaked in cinnamon, with the maple quickly yielding to the strong cinnamon flavor, some vanilla following with a nice milk chocolate note, and roasty coffe notes and some booze at the back of the palate. Delicious.

The mouthfeel is rich, decadent, and creamy. This is a great representation of a pasty stout that could’ve gone to Cloyingville, but managed to avoid that by allowing the booze and roasty coffee notes to rule at the back of the palate. Really well executed, IMHO.

First beer of the day after an eventful day. My daughter had her first ballet recital. She and her class did an amazing job and I was a very proud papa leading the cheers at the end of the routine. Her twin brother gave her the bouquet at the end of the event and a big kiss on the cheek, unprompted. It was a beautiful sight.

So, as I wind them down for bedtime, I am opening this beer, received recently as part of the Canadian BIF proceedings. This is Holy Mountain x Grasslands Down to the Fire - Part II. This is a spelt lager with dandelion and black peppercorns.

Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow with a light head that subsides to a thin irregular film on the top of the beer in about 20 seconds.

The nose is light cereal, grass, herbs. There is no real sign of the pepper for me until the beer sits in the glass for a time. Still it is very mild.

The grassy notes take centre stage on the tongue. Very light malt, some indistinguishable herbal notes as well. The peppercorn hits gently at the tail end of the sip and is very nice.

Light body. Significant carbonation. Crisp quick finish.

This was really enjoyable. I loved the last Zwanze beer, and was excited to see what a lager would be like with the peppercorns added. They didn’t pack the same punch here, but were very nice to my tastes. Try it if you see it for sure.

Cheers, and I hope all my NBW neighbours to the south have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend.

16 ounce can packaged on Monday, the 22nd of May.

Moderate pour yields a one inch white head over a hazy golden body with scant lacing.

Nose of tropical fruit and citrus with some herbal/floral aromas as well.

Taste is tropical fruits and slight sweet citrus.

Very soft feel with almost medium carbonation.

Overall, a highly crushable NEIPA with more than decent aroma and flavor.
    Recommended for all to enjoy!

    Cheers!!!

Bentonville Brewing's Red Headed Stranger Irish Red Ale, 5.5% ABV; 3.77 overall

Pours a chill-hazed amber/honey color with a thumb eggshell colored head. Pretty good head retention & lacing

    S: Breadyness not much else

T: Sweet malt, woody hops & dryness up front. Some caramel as this beer warms up, along dryness & piney hops. Finishes with malty caramel sweetness & just a kiss of pine & dryness

MF: Medium body, soft carbonation, nicely balanced

Solid take on a style that has never really wowed me, but it is as good most Irish Reds I've tried
