Hey all you New Beer Weekend beer peeps. Missed last week- Dad was in hospice and as some may already know unfortunately passed away. My Mom, youngest Brother and Dad all died in Wilmington NC. Sorry to say I spent a week down there and I hope I never go back. Anyhow my Giants won today and that puts them in first place at 4-7.....In any case Dad would have loved that.
    Todays new beer:
KCBC Reservoir Frogs DDH DIPA. Mosaic, Citra, Motueka hops.
Pours a very hazy yellow/orange with a 3 finger eggshell shaded head with good retention and plenty of sticky lacing.
Aroma is very dank with lots of soft ripened dark berries, tangerine, grapefruit, mango and fresh cut spruce and grass.
Taste follows with big mango, citrus, and a resinous finish with light pine bittereness.
Feel is medium bodied, soft feel in the mid palate with a drier, very slight hop peppery finish. Spritzy carb keeps it from stalling. Zero hint of 8%.
My experiences have been limited with KCBC but this is good DIPA. Glad I bought the 4 pk. Heres to Dad and Cheers peeps.[IMG]

Founders Moon Rambler Milk sugar IPA, 6.3% ABV; 4.22 overall. I will say I like this one better with a set of fresh of tastebuds

Pours an effervescent gold with 2+ fingers of pearl colored head. Stellar head retention & lacing

    S: Citrus, mango & vanilla

T: Follows the nose, some green melon & sweetness, plus dryness up front. Grapefruit, like, green melon & dryness as this warms. Finishes with sweetness, dryness, tangerine & lime

MF Medium body, crisp carbonation, great balance

Super drinkability, a nice lactose IPA

    Thanks guys!

Well, I am sitting here watching the KC-Bucs game and waiting for dinner so I ambitiously decided to crack a new BCBS beer ...
Goose Island - Bourbon County Brand Special #4 Stout

Pours a shiny, dark black color. Completely opaque. A thick layer of velvety dark tan colored head forms on the beer and then dissipates pretty steadily leaving just a ring of foam along the outside of the top of beer. A bit oily and slick in appearance. The aroma on this is incredible - fresh ground coffee, roasted malts, a whiff of maple syrup, chocolate and bourbon. The coffee/maple is prominent on the nose although the maple is a subtle complimentary note whereas the coffee is driving the aroma.

Taste follows the nose with that coffee, roasted malt and sweet maple syrup coming through up front before giving way to more of the chocolate, roasted malt and oaky bourbon barrel coming through. The coffee is very fresh - reminiscent of fresh coffee grounds infused in the beer. The Maple is, if this makes any sense, subtle but clearly there. A deft balance was used in adding the maple to this. I found it well balanced - not too sweet, but not lost within all the other flavors in this stout. The bourbon barrel and oaky notes do shine through on the back end - they are secondary to the coffee, but still there. Overall I found the flavors of this one to be incredible. Its sweet, but not overly sweet to my palate and I tend to be sensitive to overly sweet stouts.

The feel is thinner for what I expect from BCBS. Overall its medium to moderately bodied. I'm noticing a trend with the 2020 BCBS stouts that they seem thinner than I remember. Will be curious to see how the BCBS Original is in the mouthfeel department. Moderate, gentle, smooth carbonation.

Overall this is a top notch variant from GI - I found it tobe perfectly balanced and a worthy successor to the coffee variants of the past.

My final new beer of the night is Hardywood Park Craft Brewery's Christmas Pancakes. I meant to seek this one out in the middle of last week (I think the night before Thanksgiving) when I saw it pop up at my favorite local store, but I let it pass me by and had just assumed it would sell out quickly, so I forgot about it and quickly put the FOMO out of my mind. Fast-forward to today when I was out and about doing both holiday and grocery shopping when I stopped in to a local liquor store that tends to underwhelm me and... lo and behold: a four-pack of this much-lauded beer for $17?! I'm in, let's do it.

Oh yeah! Super pumped for this. Pour is a deep, intense, inky-black brew with a nicely-built, thick head of khaki-colored foam that quickly recedes to a half-finger, leaving behind superbly-detailed lacing in a cobweb-like pattern all around the inside of my glass. Nice surface coverage. This is well-made, for sure.

Alright, an imperial milk stout with spices, honey, and maple syrup... this is (according to the brewery) the same beer as their Gingerbread Stout with maple syrup added. That makes things a bit more simple. I was wondering whether or not I'd have to look for allspice/cinnamon/nutmeg or whatever here. Nah, seems like it's just ginger. That seems... strange, because (and maybe it's just me, but) I notice some cinnamon in here for sure. It's earthy but still sweet. Slight roast and maple candy... if you've ever had cinnamon French toast dredged in eggs, this smells very similar (definitely doesn't have that eggy smell, so rest assured about that). The maple also lends a soft and supple woody note that intrigues my senses while also encouraging me to take a sip to see if the complexity can be brought out in a different way.

Right upfront, this is nice and sweet in the way an imperial milk stout should be, bringing out a big helping of cookie-like graininess and heft that melds well with the ginger and honey. The mid-palate is a bit herbal, with more ginger mingling with an almost "cough-drop-like" undertone (not in a bad way) that quickly changes course to a sweet-leaning finish featuring some superb maple character. Maybe some of the best maple flavors I've had in a big stout! All of the other things going on here lend a ton of appreciable complexity... light cocoa powder, some creamy lactose, a hint of spice. Yeah, it's definitely a big stout with a lot of sugary components, and it's pretty unabashedly dedicated to that type of concept, but I'm really impressed by the base beer here, too, honestly. It has a nice depth of characterful maltiness that gives the additional ingredients room to flex in a way that doesn't feel over-the-top.

Feel is rich, decadent, and nicely detailed. Low-medium carbonation with a finish that lingers for 10-15 seconds after each sip with a cooling hit of ginger, some cinnamon-like earthy spice, and a touch of sweetness that feels decadent and warming. I'm so glad I got a four-pack of this one, and it wasn't even too expensive... I'll probably drink one a week leading up to Christmas. Very fun and enjoyable stuff. Cheers, BA/NBW... I hope to chime in next weekend as well, as usual, for sure!

[IMG] Poured into a 16 oz Deciduous Brewing Company Snulip glass bottled this week. Pours a very attractive jet black with a 2 finger sticky brown head that leaves thick patches of lace with excellent retention as it slowly settles into a thick layer of bubbles. 5

Aroma ginger bread, cocoa nibs, vanilla bean, and coffee milk. 4.75

Taste follows with ginger bread in the lead role, cocoa, vanilla, and hints of coffee all in important supporting roles. 4.75

Mouthfeel is large, soft creamy carbonation, not dry but a tad sticky, and at 10.5% ABV really goes down far too easy with no alcohol present. 5

Overall this is another world class brew from possibly the best in NH. Ginger bread is the main attraction, but it allows all the other flavors to shine. This is a near perfect Christmas Stout. Pretty amazed with this one. 475

I only remember enjoying a glass at the brewery so much that I also got a crowler to take home.

Happy Sunday, NBW. I am digging this, and I think I’ve had it in my beer fridge for 6weeks - and it still has 7 weeks or so to before the “BBD” hits. I am flummoxed how New Belgium and Sierra Nevada can put out these hazies that don’t fade so fast.

Pours a hazy mango color with a dense white head that provides beautiful lacing. Lots of mango and passion fruit on the nose, and a bit of pineapple.

The mango is strong with this one on the taste, and I like mango, so that’s a good thing. The passion fruit provides some exotic flavors, and the pineapple provides depth. There’s also a creamy malt flavor which works really well, and more than a bit of booze at the back of the palate.

The mouthfeel is more than a little creamy, which isn’t often seen in a DIPA in my experience.

I’ve liked the Ranger series since I had the first one nearly a decade ago, and this is no exception. Very well done, IMHO.

On the bright side @tasterschoice62 you get to see your dad every time you look in a mirror! I get to see parts of my parents, both gone, too.

This living thing sure is one crazy ride. Cheers!
