16oz can served in a curvy Monhegan pint glass. Dated in tiny print on the label 5/16/24. Got it from @NorsemanOne in a trade.

Pours clear light yellow, moderate sized head that retains surprisingly well, moderate active carbonation. Smell is light, grassy, lemon, a bit of lager yeast.

Taste is far on the lemon side, with grass and honeysuckle in the background followed by a little kick of lager yeast funk.

Mouthfeel is light, clean, crisp. Overall, refreshing, easy to drink, not bad at all.

Pale yellow body, crystal clear; gorgeous fine-bubble carbonation; incredibly dense, pillowy and creamy head, white and long-lasting. Pleasant and subdued scent; delicate toasted malt grain base; low-key citrus underpinning. Refined, balanced taste; very light biscuit note with a touch of citrus pith; moderately bitter overall. Medium body; crisp with a fine, dry bite on the palate.

This Russian River India pale ale is pretty good but is somewhat lacking in distinctive flavor or aroma.

Yes I brought the cup home from the game and stopped at the Joliet Illinois Binnys. Got deepdish pizza on the way and it’s time for Friday Night Smackdown. Cheers! Cubs win! “They are still going to sell at the deadline.”

Back in California enjoying this monster of a barleywine. Auld Lang Syne from Burns Family Artisan Ales in Colorado. This is a brandy barrel-aged English barleywine. 16.1% and bottled in 2021. Says that it ages gracefully for 25+ years.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours dark brown with a good amount of tan head. The nose is full of dark fruit. The brandy barrels did a number on this one. Fantastic. Plums, brandy, pear, toffee, and gummy bears.

The taste is great. Tons of fruit, brandy barrel, toffee, slight brown sugar, and booze. Fruit includes pear, blackberry, raspberry, and grapes. Super intense. Getting some vanilla, and a slight bitterness (maybe from the wood).

The aftertaste is sweet fruit and a bit of alcohol heat. This lingers for quite a while. The feel is rather thin.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this one! I noticed you have tried several from this brewery. I might grab a couple of others in Portland next month.

...my Auld Lang Syne vintage is 2020...just put a bottle of Ship of Theseus (2022) in the fridge...also have Tick, Tick, Tickin (imperial porter) and a Warsled of Valhalla (barrel aged stout) plus a few other bottles and cans...I really enjoyed their German pilsner on tap (one of the cans I have)...

...my wallet says 'no' but my beer heart says 'yes' as their cellar sale continues through the 7th of this month (now with an extra 5% off their original sale price)...just may have to sacrifice a Social Security payment to satisfy my beer habit...:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

If you are willing to drop some 'big bucks' you might want to try this beer in the big bottles since they go through a bottle conditioning phase (i.e., a true secondary fermentation) and they will consequently have a differing flavor profile. This big bottled beer might be exactly in your personal 'sweet spot'.

    Or not? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Cheers!

    Oh, cool ... great tip.

I'm a big fan of bottle conditioning, and I can imagine what you're talking about. I'll keep it in mind. Thanks!

Oh yeah, awesome. Most people I have turned this on to, are kind of surprised that there is no "farm House" like character. Esters, yeast and hops are the name of the game. I could go on forever, but the style Saison itself has so many meanings, its hard to pin down. All I know, is, this is classic, and its great for me

Been hopping around dive bars and BBQ joints with a friend today, so nothing new from me

Muled this one back from my last trip to Colorado, adjunct and added flavor free imperial stout? Sign me up!
However, not all imperial stouts are created equal and some are rather curious.
Didn’t look like a stout when I poured it but it managed to sport a nice tan head which left scant lacing.
The taste has the elements of a stout, the coffee, chocolate, and ubiquitous dark fruit, and has some herbal or grassy flavors going on. A little bitterness which is perfectly appropriate for the style.
The feel is good, a little thin but it fits the taste if not the style.
OA, while not amazing, it’s a tasty beer, but I think it won’t be high on my list of favorite stouts.
    It *was* crushable though.
    Cheers!

Burns Family Artisan Ales -- Märchenhaft Märzen
    Märzen
    ABV: 5.5%; pouring temperature: 43 °F; canning info: n/a

Pours a clear, medium brown color, appears a very dark amber in the glass; dense, semi-creamy and spongy head, faint khaki twinge to the color. Light toffee and toasted malt nose; malt sweetness. Medium malt sweetness on the palate; light caramel malt taste with red ale touches; very light nuttiness; barely perceptible hop bitterness. Nice body and mouthfeel; medium body; smooth with a decent residual sugar velvet-like feel; very lightly dry on the palate.

A nice enough märzen beer, malty with little hop presence. Pretty good overall if rather mundane.

...TRVE beers are quite good, Craig, as you obviously have found out...and you're right, Obsidian Crown is an pretty good example of an unadorned imperial stout...

...hey, Craig...the next time you're in Colorado, let's try and hookup again...perhaps Mrs. BeerGoot and I can meet up with you in some high country place in Woodland Park, Divide, or even the Thunderbird Inn in Florissant (saw a great show there back in the day with 'Trout Fishing In America' playing)...

    Got this Gem from @LehighAce06

Human Robot Brewing Hallertau Pils, 5.2% ABV; 4.56 overall

Pours an effervescent gold/honey color with 3 fingers of cream-colored head. There's a bit of a haze to this beer, great head retention & lacing

S: Grassy, floral, bready, perfumy hops once warm; stellar nose

T: Follows the nose, a little dry & a little sweet, some peppery & citrus hops as well up front. Herbaceous hops, dryness, grassyness & lime as this beer warms up, bready sweetness as well. Finishes pretty dry, grassy with a touch of soapyness & lime as well

MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation, nice balance

Stellar take on the style, very drinkable

Here's a pic of the can as well:stuck_out_tongue: Brain dead? Wasn't that bad a day at work. PT licked my ass though

Me riding drag on Friday night again, that's okay. This is a fantastic brew I received as part of my Superbowl Squares haul from @brutalfarce

Barreled Souls in Collaboration w/Southern Grist Brewing Co. Tame The Wild Cosmos Imp Stout, 13.7 ABV; 4.22 overall

Pours an effervescent chestnut/mahogany with a pinky of fast falling caramel colored head. Zero head retention or lacing

S: Chocolate, vanilla, cola once warm, some cinnamon as well

T: Follows the nose, powdery cocoa, some barrel presence, a touch of caramel, salt & Graham Cracker, more than one thing contributing to pronounced dryness. Cocoa, vanilla, a little caramel & salt as this beer warms up. Finishes warming with salty caramel, cocoa & vanilla; plus lovely barrel bite

MF: A little chewy, moderate carbonation, warming barrel presence

Pretty drinkable for the heft, this really delivers as a BA Pastry Stout

Need to catch up on this thread and others and looking forward to doing so. I have four AALs to go, my not get to all four but one will for certain be in the books once I crack this can open and complete my review linked below.

I really am enjoying this beer and only have several ounces left to get through the AAL and WBAYDN posts. Beyond the initial awful aroma that dissipated, this beer delivers with a sweet malt that is not cloying, enjoyable flavor, a solid Ice / higher ABV kick that is getting me down the final stretch. I had the lease expectations for this one among my new to me beers, and this is my current high score with two "new" to me AALs to go. I don't say this often, but well done Miller Brewing / Molson-Coors.

Planned for later today is the beer I had when it was brewed in Australia, but not the American version.
