[IMG] Poured into a 16 oz tulip glass, pours a very attractive near pitch black, with a massive 2 plus finger mocha head that leaves a thin wall of lace, with amazing retention. 5

Aroma deep dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, a hint of pipe tobacco, maple, leather, vanilla, and oaked bourbon. 4.5

Taste follows dark chocolate, coffee grounds, pipe tobacco, maple, vanilla, and bourbon. 4.5

Mouthfeel is big, a tad dry, gentle carbonation, and at 13% you know it is big, but still very approachable. 4.75

Overall this one is pretty damn impressive. I will say this Stout never let’s you down. 4.5

    12 ounce bottle.
    BB 06-21-24.

Label says Galaxy, Willamette, Cascade, Simcoe.
    50 ibus.

Moderate pour yields a nearly two inch white head over a hazy, light golden body with sticky lacing.

Nose of spice (Willamette?) and fresh pine (Simcoe and/or Cascade?) with the Belgian yeast in the background.

Taste comes close to the nose with a bit of doughy bread in there as well as some citrus (Galaxy?) Finish is Cascade-like pine bitterness with that Belgian yeast still backing it up.

Nice feel and overall, not for everyone, but I like it as a change of pace from our "cookie cutter" IPAs in the US.

    Cheers!!!

Cracking the mystery beer from the latest BIF from @2beerdogs. There is writing on the label but I cant decipher most of it except drink fresh. Hope Im not too late.
Pouring a a golden amber with a rocky white head that is relatively short lived leaving no lacing. Hmm should be indicative of things to come?
I find the aroma to be slightly muted- citrus, mild tropical and some green tea notes. The taste follows with all of the above and a little white pepper spice. Its dry and and fairly medium light in body which leaves me to believe this is not an IPA. Very easy to drink. Lager? Not quite and the head dissappeared so quickly...ok stumped.
Wow. SMaSH. I can definitely feel the cascade hops. The head threw me off too- almost none to speak of. Good beer.....and wheres my peanuts?
    Thanks Derek great challenge! [IMG]

Clear, golden body; dense carbonation; thin, white head, lasting. Low-key smell; a bit grainy with a very noticeable sweetness; peach. So-so taste; grain-like base, biscuit; fairly heavy artificial sweetness; mild bitterness. Heavy body; mildly syrupy; light to moderate warmth on the palate; mildly sticky.

Well, this one is a 'one and done' kind of beer for me. It is drinkable although there is little appeal to me with any of its qualities. It hides it's relatively high ABV well, but the overall taste plainly lacks depth and character. Again, it's not a bad beer, but pretty forgettable if you're looking for something with memorable appeal.

    Poured at 54 °F; MAR2822

...this is one of those forgettable beers that one might run across when you're jonesing for a beer and your only beer emporium options are gas stations or convenience stores...well, I have indulged in things like Mad Dog 20/20 back in my wayward youth, and this doesn't quite dive to those kind of boozy depths, but it certainly hints at such things - strongly...

Doin' a heckin' huge holla @Ozzylizard for this next brew, number 4500 for me here on BA. I purposely put this Hoppin' Frog 15th Anniversary brew aside for the number, and the beer did not disappoint. At all. A great Bourbon Barrel aged Barleywine is right in my wheelhouse. I'd like a couple cases to have around. Great beer.

    The good, well, everything.
Received via BIF 14 from @ovaltine
Poured transparent golden and had an amazing aroma that spoke of biscuits and what I can only describe as spring grass.
The taste was, for a lager, outstanding. I found how easy some beers (Festbiers anyone?) are to drink by the liter, this one I could drink by the gallon.
The feel is ideal, just so drinkable.
Amazing lager, try it if you can.
    Thanks Michael!

Untied - More Boos, a 12.6% abv pumpkin ale from Untied. A gift from @MacMalt through BIF #14.

    750ml capped/corked bottle served in a tulip. I don't see a date on it, but I'm assuming it's a once-a-year beer, and it's this year's.

Pours a clear amber with a small head. Actually very pretty. Smell is pumpkin pie -- moderate sweetness, a little vanilla some cinnamon maybe but I think more nutmeg. Doesn't come across boozy, and at least so far it hasn't descended into a train wreck of spices -- it smells nice and balanced. I am heartened by the apparently muted cinnamon note. So far so good.

Taste is boozy (well, it is 12.6% after all). I get a pretty substantial amount of caramel and toffee. Spices of course are there, but again, thankfully, not an assault. I hardly get any cinnamon, and the nutmeg is fairly moderate. Squash almost comes across like sweet potato (the thought occurred to me with the aroma, too). Something bitter is starting to build in the background...maybe a burnt sugar kind of flavor? Actually made me think of burnt marshmallow. Which probably reveals a little of the vanilla, too.

Mouthfeel is moderately thick, moderately still, just a slight slick oiliness. Overall, this is a very good beer, and I'm impressed.

My last new beer for the weekend. Salted Caramel Mudslide from Firestone. 2020 bottle poured at fridge temp. Pours a nice dark brown with very quickly dissipating head. Very Pepsi like.

Nose: Salted caramel and NUTS! Lots of nuts. Walnuts and almonds. Chocolate, coffee (lightly roasted), peanut butter, and more nuts! Starting to get roasted chestnuts. Reminds me of walking through the markets in Germany as they roast the chestnuts and sell them in little paper bags. What a smell! A floral note appears, which is really interesting. Overall, this is an extremely unique nose - not something I have ever experienced with a beer.

Taste: Again, incredibly unique and interesting. I definitely get more salted caramel on the taste, which I absolutely love. Still getting a lot of nuttiness. If you like nuts and salted caramel, this beer is a dream for you. Dark bread, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, light coffee notes, a bit of bourbon, and vanilla beans. This is complex, yet well integrated. Interesting, but not off-putting. This one takes you on a journey through the senses. It's a unique experience, and I love it.

Mouthfeel and overall: Feel is medium-bodied. In line with a good barleywine. Overall, I am really surprised by how surprising this beer is. Very interesting and I look forward to enjoying every sip.

A little over 14 years. And, only about 500 of them are "tasters", like at a share. There were a lot of beers that I, for various reasons, didn't enter here, and so many more before I found the site. I'm guessing that #5000 will be May-June of next year, but..... I'm kinda like a Labrador retriever chasing a ball. Now that the Big 5 number is within sight, who knows.

The NBS BIFs are a big help in pushing up the numbers, and I thank everyone who has sent me beer in all 14 of those shenanigan-filled events.

I suspect other BAs are like you (myself included) that have had so many other beers BBAE (before the BA era), that if we could somehow magically (and honestly) name and count those beers would make our unique beer counts truly astronomical...well, it really isn't a contest - but it sure is one hell of a journey...:stuck_out_tongue:

I literally cannot remember my first beer. I do remember the first beer I remember, but I know I had had beer before that. I was 5. So many Genesee products, Labatt Blues, Utica Clubs, and our high school beer of choice (the drinking age was 18 at the time) Miller High Life.

Urban Chestnut DorfBier Bavarian Style Dunkel, 4.8%; 3.95 overall

Pours an effervescent orange/ hazel with 2+ fingers of tan head. Above average head retention & lacing

S: Brown bread, brown sugar, fades as it warms

T: Follows the nose, some caramel notes, plenty of dryness/toastyness & just a little fig up front. More toastyness & brown sugar as this warms, a little leafy & woody hop as well. Finishes toasty with brown sugar sweetness, plus a little caramel & woody hops, plus a little roastyness

    MF: Medium body, moderate carbonation

Well done take on the style, nice mix of flavor & drinkability
