As yesterday, a new-to-me beer from a new-to-me Tennessee brewery, provided by the slightly unhinged BA @WunderLlama. Unlike yesterday, this one wasn't compromised in the shipping process. This one's an IIIPA named Moderate Fleek from Southern Grist. I think someone else posted about it on here this weekend, but don't remember for sure. I'll have to go back and check it out.

16oz can served in a big snifter. Dated 10/13/21. Received yesterday from @WunderLlama.

Pours a murky orange-yellow. As I approached the end of the can, it started to look a little like a mudslide, so I stopped pouring, leaving probably a half-inch in the bottom. Shows a medium sized head that collapses to a thin dusting with a medium sized ring. Substantial amount of fine, ongoing carbonation. Smell is moderate tropical with a green leafy twist. Very ripe, a bit boozy.

Taste is SUPER juicy. Orange, mango, pineapple. Very slowly, a mild bitterness creeps in, but it isn't a match for the juiciness. Still clearly boozy.

Mouthfeel is thick, almost pulpy (maybe actually pulpy, if I start drinking the mud at the bottom of the can), with a nice slight effervescence to keep it from seeming heavy. Overall, this is a nice IIIPA. If I was handed one after another, I could get in trouble, but I probably wouldn't seek out one after another.

Definitely a good enough beer that I'm interested in trying more from them. Which is excellent, because I'm pretty sure @WunderLlama sent me another one from them. :grinning:

Ah! New Beer Sunday deep past its twilight of the evening. To quote the late Toronto based DJ Martin Streek ''Sunday night, its still the weekend''

This entry will be my prelude to consuming 1943 Irving Berlin's 'This is The Army''

    Tuborg Gold. European Lager. 5.5%

Zounds of confusion from the name of the gold beer from the all but flourescent green can with lemon bursts of yellow stripes up the middle. Even the 5.5% is queer coming from a beer that boasts its been around since 1880.

Well, thank goodness you don't drink the label.

Poured at proper lager temperature into a pilsner glass it forms a massive 2'' pure white head with audible carbonation from 2ft away. Colour of the beer is that of ....sniff sniff

ah Fuck - nothing but corn.

Well, my satisfaction is still achieved from spending time here.

To the sink with this mess

And to the movies for me!

Happy New Beer Sunday everyone! Good night and all the best to your Monday's!

I know you weren't trying to change my mind. I honestly didn't know it was in the Top 250. I wonder if it was there prior to the recent ranking algorithms? Still, the majority of the nearly 350 raters certainly see this as a world class beer. And I'm good with that.

Yea it was there - its one of the handful of top 250 beers that I have and need to review.

Back with another one, from highly regarded Astoria Oregon (where both The Goonies and Kindergarten Cop were filmed) brewery Fort George comes the 2021 edition of Magnetic Fields. Do you like weak, watered down Screwdrivers for brunch? If so, here's your beer: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/423/566259/

Last one, courtesy of our friend @snaotheus, this Export Lager straddles that IPL line magnificently, IMHO.

Pours a beautiful golden color with just a bit of hop haze and a big, substantial off white head that provides significant lacing. The nose has a load of citrus hops (ripe oranges) to accompany a cracker malt note.

The ripe oranges are the dominant flavor up front, with that nice cracker malt at the back of the palate in this properly crisp beer that straddles that “Lager/IPA” line quite well and works for me to the point that I’d have this in my beer fridge to scratch my lager itch AND my hop itch.

Next up is The Morning After Ben Haag from Hoppin' Frog.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours black with almost no head. No bubbles and no lacing. Nose is toffee, chocolate, coffee grounds, maple syrup,

Taste is incredible. Tons of coffee up front. Chocolate, maple, vanilla, bourbon, roasted malts, dark fruit, and brown sugar. This is sweet, but not too sweet. Really tasty. The ABV, although high, is almost completely undetectable. Super smooth.

Mouthfeel is medium to thick bodied. Overall, a nice BA ale that leans more sweet.

[IMG] Poured into a 16 oz tulip glass canned on 11/16/21. Pours near pitch black with a finger sticky mocha head that leaves a thin wall of lace, with excellent retention. 4.5

Aroma is cocoa nibs, vanilla bean, caramel, and toffee. 4.5

Taste follows cocoa, vanilla, caramel, toffee, and a little alcohol in the big finish. 4.5

Mouthfeel is pretty big, not really dry, gentle carbonation, and at 13% you know it is a massive stout but still dangerously approachable. 4.5’

Overall this is an outstanding Imperial Stout, really a little one dimensional but in a great way. 4.5

    Southern Tier 2XMAS, 8.0% ABV; 3.83 overall

Pours an effervescent brown with one pinky of tan head. Above average head retention & lacing

    S: Cinnamon, ginger, dark fruit

T: Follows the nose, certainly has the gingerbread vibe, along with dryness & woody hops. Gingerbread spices dominate as this warms, a little breadyness too. Finishes dry with woody hops, brown sugar & all the Christmas spices

MF: Medium body, fairly firm carbonation. Body thins a touch when warm

Hits its intended target, but wished it had more body

Yeah, the one I had seeemed liked pretty standard yeast was used in it. Maybe a brewery mistake? It was very clean tasting opposite of what I was anticipating

Shrug. Maybe different batches, and the Kveik had built up oddness over time? Maybe I got an infected can (not having had a ton of experience with kveik, I might not pick up on atypical flavors/scents)?

I dont post to NBW very often, even though I frequently try new beers. But wanted to be sure to thank @Resistance88 for this awesome barrel aged barleywine! That appreciation thread has motivated me to drink some more of the bottles in my cellar, just cant do many of them in one night. This is Trustworthy Brewing Company and their Bear Temper BBA barleywine. 12.5%

    onto my review:
Sampling a cellar temp 12 oz stubby bottle poured into my snifter.
The beer pours a deep mahogany color, holding my glass to the light I get some rich garnet tints on the edge. A fizzy beige head of < .5cm foams up and fades to a thin edge layer soon after the pour into my glass. A scattered few small islands also float around the center of the glass.
The aroma on this beer is big, robust and malt driven. There is a lot of toffee and caramel with some raisins and plum mixing in and a good dose of bourbon. I also get a little boozy alcohol from the nose and this warns me to sip this beer. No hop character on the aroma that I pick up.
The first sip reveals a medium body with smooth silky mouthfeel. A little sticky texture that coats my palate and lips each sip I take. The beer drinks fairly easy on the physical traits, which is a little surprising.
The flavor is all malt forward, I again dont get any hop characters here. This barleywine seems more of the English ilk based on flavor profile. I get a lot of toffee and brown sugar mixing with some raisins and a bit of darker chocolate too. The bourbon of course shows here as well, but I dont get any fusol warming booze to accompany the bourbon. The flavors are very rich and filling and I enjoy the malt driven profile. This is a great barleywine and I would encourage folks trying this one if you can get em.
