Interesting it said it was retired. I know that is a fresh can. I am glad you enjoyed it. Many of their beers usually taste exactly what said on the can.

    Next up Pineapple Resin!!
Sounds like a weed type.or something haha!
Pours a slightly hazy sunny yellow with a large white sea foamy head with excellent retention and lots of sticky lacing.
Yup you guessed it loads of fresh pineapple on the nose but there are peaks of mango, some citrus and theres hops in there....somewhere.
Taste is again alot of pineapple, which was expected, buts its not overly sweet. In fact this has a nice bitterness to it. There are hints of citrus peel and pine. Malt is light pils I would suspect which may (besides the pineapple of course) step it away from regular Resin just a bit.
Medium bodied with nice carb throughout and a dangerously drinkable 9.1% - but thats Resin..
Really enjoying this take. Reminds me I need more Resin in my life.
A fruity IPA that showcases both the hops and the fruit- no lactose, or marsmallow etc....a novel idea that freakin works here.
    Cheers![IMG]

Pühaste / Browar Pinta - Morphosis Brandy BA

Imperial Baltic Porter aged in Brandy barrels, from Estonia (11.3%).

Pours a pitch-black coloration with a large, creamy, mocha-colored head. Smells of slightly roasted, caramelly malt, intense milk chocolate and distinct dark fruit and red berries, with notes of raisin, plum, cranberry and red grape, as well as just a hint of licorice.

Taste is an excellent balance of slightly roasted, caramel malt, rich milk chocolate and distinct dark fruit and red berry notes of raisin, plum, cranberry, red currant and grape, as well as spicy hints of vanilla, licorice and nutmeg. Finishes bittersweet, with a light/medium sweetness and some chocolate, dark fruit and spice lingering in the aftertaste. Full, creamy mouthfeel with a rich body and light/medium carbonation.

Another absolutely exceptional barrel-aged brew from Pühaste, who are much less well known than Pohjala from Estonia, but at least on equal footing with their very own Silver Series, which rarely disappoints. This is probably one of my favorites from the series, with a deep Brandy character of dark/red fruit and and spice underlying the rich caramel, choccolate, slightly roasted malts here, with an intoxicating aroma and full and creamy body and mouthfeel as well.

Overall, this makes for quite a full, complex Imperial Porter that feels sweet and warming without ever turning too cloying or boozy, with a rich complexity and subtle balance.

Do You Want More?!!!??! (accurate punctuation ratios ftw) is Modestman Brewing's all-Southern Hemisphere hopped IPA. Featuring Nelson, Galaxy, and Vic Secret, this seems like quite a saturated hop bomb... and I am into it.

Pours a gorgeous, opaque orange-yellow with a cap of intense suds measuring almost three fingers at first. It settles pretty quickly to a solid finger, leaving behind superb sheets of lace and it has legs for daaaays, and tons of macro bubbles on the surface... just a beautiful pour.

Nose is pretty much everything I love about the current generation of uber-hoppy NEIPAs... it's raw hop goodness with no stupid "Incognito" stuff going on (flashback to uhh, two reviews ago?). This is just insane! The Nelson pushes out front with a massive tropical barrage blending with that acidic, tangy gooseberry note it's known for, while Galaxy really entices with grapefruit and ripe guava mingling with hints of allspice and anise. Vic Secret (which I have always considered a denser, more complex Galaxy... controversial opinion, maybe, though) is throwing out notes of cedar and pine with mango/passion fruit coming up as this warms. Altogether, this just coalesces as a symphony of fantastic hoppiness, and I'm so excited to take a sip.

God... DAMN! This is a beautiful, saturated beast of a single IPA. It's crazy that the people at Modestman have packed this much insane lupulin goodness into a lithe, 7%-er. It's lip-smackingly acidic from the hops right upfront, with powerful flavors of ripe mango and gooseberry mingling with pineapple and cedar wood as the surprisingly herbal and spicy mid-palate-to-finish transition grabs hold and dries out the tongue entirely. This is dank, sure, but also intensely fruity and so complex. Wow, just wow. It's a flavor bomb for sure. I would buy this all the time... I wish these guys can-dated, but I am fairly sure they're one of those brewers that if you find their stuff in stores, you know it's fresh. Need more! So damn good.

Another bitterly cold spring day in Idaho. Just getting ready for the week and enjoying a few beers along the way. This beer is from Radio Brewing out of Kellogg Idaho. The malt bill is complex and firm. They threw in plenty of hops to help balance out the beer. I enjoyed sipping on this beer.

Bud Light Next - a no carb beer certainly had me curious but I figured that this would be beer flavored seltzer and that about describes it; their description of a super crisp light beer is accurate. For me not an issue but I'm sure many here would not enjoy this. Pours a very carbonated clear color with a hint of yellow. Smell and taste are just a hint of beer. So yeah, if you want something super light and that tastes good with a lemon or a lime this is the brew for you. Would I drink this again? I would. But I'm all about the lighter stuff these days (and on a related note now when I drink a bigger beer I really feel it and these days I can only have one, two at most). Budmo!

Good evening NBS/nbw and thanks to @ChicagoJ for hosting this week.
Took a nearly 12 mile hike around Beartown State Forest today, quite a good time with the hiking team. Dates are now secured for team #1 to come to WMass and we will be spending about 4 weeks with our Oldest (of 2) son his fantastic spouse and our first grandchild in July. Excitement does not describe the feelings running through the house now.

Todays offering is from Tree House, I am not a Tree House IPA fan, that said this Big stout is quite good. No adjucnts, just a big ass stout. Hefty in texture, solid in flavor one I will seek out again. The Deerfield location is the grounds and buildings my spouse worked at for 22 Yrs. Its close to us so there's that

Poured from a 16 oz can , dated 1/28/22 into the test glass.
A - Chalkboard black backdrop. Hides all that goes on inside. Thin ring of mocha proves some carbonation.
S - Milk chocolate, a bit of licorice, some dark roast coffee, a bit of blackberry
T - Dark chocolate, a bit of char, some medium roast coffee, add a bit of anice
M - Full body, a bit sweet, there is a solid roast bite to offset the sweet side. Finish is surprisngly dry.
O - A very good straight imperial stout. tends toward the sweet end of the spectrum, An enjoyable stout without gimmicks.

Herloom Rustic Ales Morning Devotion; a Milk Stout with cold brew coffee & cinnamon. 6.6% ABV; 3.45 overall

Pours an effervescent cola/auburn color with a sliver of sand colored head. Head falls off quickly, some head retention & zero lacing

S: Cinnamon, a touch of coffee,

T: Follows the nose, a little vanilla; the cinnamon is sort of spicy up front. Slight touch of roastyness as this warms, plenty of cinnamon, also some dryness & woody hops. Finishes a little dry with some lactose & vanilla, but mostly cinnamon

MF: Light/medium body, slight carbonation. Carbonation picks up as it warms, body thins

Drinks okay, but nothing to get too excited about. I might've been more excited about the cinnamon if the body wasn't so meh

Happy Masters Sunday, NBW. This is my annual opportunity to break out my Masters beer glasses, which I need to utilize more often, because they are AWESOME, IMHO.

This evening I have a couple of Kane beers from @jonphisher and NBW BIF #15. I think Kane is world-class, so I’m PUMPED. LET’S GO!!!!!

This beer pours a beautiful peach color with a bit of hop haze and a gorgeous, creamy white head that provides significant lacing. Floral notes dominate the nose up front, and there’s some citrus and malt as well.

The taste is more nuanced, with ripe peaches most prominent, along with a floral flavor as well that balances the peach, and a nice malt sweetness that makes this absolutely crushable.

The mouthfeel is straightforward WCIPA, medium and drying, pulling you back for another sip while you’re still processing the current sip. Really well done by a world class brewery.

Yesterday I got to experience a beer I most likely will never lay my hands on again. This year’s Invitational at Side Project brewing was a plethora of first-time beers for me, but this opportunity was unreal.

The beer was Beatification Batch 001-PH1. Originally brewed in 2006, this incredible opportunity was given to Russian River to age a beer in arguably the most significant barrel in the industry. There’s actually a great article about this barrel’s significance that was published to BA, which I’ll link below:

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/articles/13571/the-rarest-barrel-ph1s-influence-and-inspiration/

Regardless, the provenance on this particular bottle was unmatched, and the age added a beautiful level of complexity that may never be found in any of the remaining bottles of this beer. I’ll forever be thankful for the opportunity to taste this piece of beer history.

Whoa! That sounds great. Years ago, Selkirk Abbey did a similar beer, called Cuvee de la Nuit Profonde, that was one of the best beers i have ever had. They only did it for two years. The version they tried to blend the third year was sub-standard, so they never released it, and the brewer moved on so it was never attempted again.

Last new beer of the weekend
    [IMG]
    The Abyss
12oz bottled 4/28/21 poured into a perfect pint glass at fridge temp 11.8% ABV per label. The beer pours pitch black with no light penetration and light brown head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of tiny bubbles. Sparce lacing. The aroma is moderate in strength featuring chocolate, roasted malt and oak barrel. The taste is bittersweet roasted malt with more subtle oak, bitter chocolate and a moderately bitter finish. The mouthfeel is medium plus bodied with just less that average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. The substantial ABV is well hidden. Overall, very good.

    Cheers all!

My final (?) "new" beer of the day is a beer I've had before, but it's my first time cracking open this particular vintage, and from what I understand, adding maple syrup is a twist on a classic, so it is technically new to me.

I've been waiting to crack open my newest bottle of Sam Adams Utopias. We don't often host, but we have a close family over for our youngest's birthday, and this seemed like as good a way to close the evening as any other.

No head - no surprise. Incredibly boozy and rich on the nose, to the point that you can smell it from several (and I mean several) feet away. I know Utopias is (rightly) often compared to spirits, but very few spirits are this aggressively aromatic in the glass.

The maple is actually noticeable on the nose, quite prominently in fact once you get accustomed to the rich, woody, boozy profile. Additional notes of sherry, bourbon, oak, nuts, brown sugar, red grape, prune, leather, and just a ton of alcohol.

Much smoother on the palate. It may smell like hard spirits, but it drinks much closer to a heavy dessert wine. Yes, there's a sting, and yes, it's boozy, but you can still savor the sip - at least a little bit. Almost immediate chest heat; yeah, this is potent. Flavor is intense, complex, layered, and hot. Less maple than on the nose, but there is a nutty/woody aspect to which I think the maple contributes.

This is, as always, a crazy beer. I don't know if I like it more than previous vintages; I haven't had enough to have much of a firm memory of this beer (this is only my second purchased bottle, as well, IIRC). But it's pretty damn awesome, and an absolute treat.
