Yesterday afternoon, @Resistance88 tagged me in a post and I received a notification alerting me of the “mention”. However, a few hours later he tagged me again but I did not receive a notification this time. I checked my settings to confirm that alerts for mentions were still enabled (they were). I can only surmise that I did not receive a notification due to his second post being on the same thread page as my response to his initial mention? Or perhaps this is just a one time glitch? I’ve never had this happen before. Well, as far as I know anyway…
@Resistance88 has a tendency to make the system glitch. We know working behind the scenes. Wouldn’t know right now, other than maybe a glitch. In any case try and look yourself up in the search feature and you’ll be able to know where you have been tagged.
This has happened to me a couple of times recently. Triple checked to make sure I didn't miss something.
So the alerts don’t always work then? I check them regularly. I know that there’s a 25 alert maximum before you have to click the “show more” to see any that you missed but that doesn’t pertain to the issue I had yesterday.
By design (not mine), you won't always get alerts (temporary data) if you don't actively click on the alert and view the content. The thinking behind this is that the system and users would be overwhelmed by alerts otherwise. And why send one if you're not checking them? Not sure if improvements have been made since (we're on a very old version), but we'll find out once the upgrade is applied. Until then, if you want a better chance of not missing/getting alerts that matter, turn off alerts for likes. I did this long ago and never miss a mention/quote (as long as I follow through with a click).
I've noticed that if I add an alert as an edit to a post it doesn't send a notification to the other member.
Yeah, it's also my understanding that mention alerts are only triggered during the initial post. Doing so after editing gets tricky if you're adding/removing users. And mention alerts are also capped at 5 (or 25 for Society).
Maybe that’s what happened? I always click on my mentions/quotes, having just done so a few hours before the error occurred so I don’t think lack of clicking on alerts was the issue.
I’m still having problems with mentions, but thanks to @Shanex I’m able to search myself up and see if anyone has tried to “@“ me. Almost missed one from @defunksta yesterday and one from @LAFreeway last month, so the problem definitely isn’t caused by @Resistance88.
