For those U.S. folks, If you had to chose one beer to represent the U.S. in an overall best beer in the world contest what would it be?

I know it's tough, but it's for 'Merica!

Anchor Steam! (not that its my fav or anything) It's just that it IS the all american beer, being a style that actually originated here.

Hmm, I like your line of thinking here, but if I were to choose something like an American Pale Ale that has stood the test of time, I might have to go with Anchor Liberty Ale. Although you could argue it's really an IPA.

Then again, it IS called LIBERTY Ale.

EDIT: Whoa, when did Anchor decide to actually call this an IPA? I just went to check the abv on this one and noticed it's now labeled an IPA on their website (and this one).

Lived in China the past year, and whenever I would go out with local friends, they'd try and pick places with "American beers" for me, and 9/10 it was this (they also love PBR over there)

Arrogant Bastard...and I'm not saying that to be cheeky.

I think it helped start a shift toward big, in-your-face beers that dominate the craft scene right now.

    Yuengling.

Seriously, what else could it be? The last remaining family-owned brewery, that has any length of history at all. All the others, except perhaps F. X. Matt, are gone.
