So I went to the Wormtown tasting room grand opening on St. Paddy's day and tried their Birthday Brew #5. It's an excellent beer. A TIPA that hides its 10.7% better then most at that level. Big bright citrus and tropical aromas and flavors. Nice level of bitterness and enough malt backbone to balance it out. So I asked the floor manager if Ben ever turned any of the Anniversary beers into regular rotation beers. He never has.

Now it begs the question to me of why brewers would brew something that was intended to be a special one-off but never put it into their arsenal if it turned out great. I like Be Hoppy and Hopulence a lot but this beer would get more of my money if it was available. Not sure I understand the logic behind it. If you brewed a beer better than others in your portfolio then only makes sense to me that you should fit it in or drop one to make room. Shame to see it go.

@Jesse14 I can't speak for every brewery but my best guess would be hops in the case of when it's an IPA etc. Unfortunately certain hops just aren't at our disposal on a consistent basis until we get locked in with a contract.

I thought about that. He listed using El Dorado, Azacca, and Equinox. Definitely the "flavor of the month" hops right now and not enough acreage out there, but you could still brew it more than once. I guess I want to see it at least annually. When those hops get bigger yields then ramp up production....sounds good on paper anyways.

By the way, I have not been fortunate enough to try your beers but congrats on the good words going around. CT could use another great brewery within its limits. No offense to CT and I can say that because I was born there. I hope your another true grassroots success. Nothing wrong with New England becoming more spoiled.

It's psychological, too. Novelty is an important component in how we taste (or view or experience) anything.
