Hate to add another visiting the area thread but haven't seen much on this with a search. Coming to Palm Springs this weekend and looking for some breweries / beer stores. I'm hoping to do Anaheim at least one day and was planning on Bruery and Bottle Logic. Noble looks interesting as well. So wondering if Coachella Brewing is worth a visit. Any tips on stores in the area for local beer and recommendations for some recent releases would be helpful. Any chance of scoring some Sucaba remaining and will Parabola hit distribution? I know it's getting released on Saturday. Lastly any events during the weekend that would be good to hit up. Thanks in advance. Looking forward to a visit.
Jensens had Sucaba as of about a week ago when I passed thru town... Also http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/palm-springs-bottle-shops.375160/#post-4454381 Cheers
just as a heads up you're looking at an hour and a half drive to Anaheim, one way. Bruery and Noble are must hits. Hangar 24 is worth stopping at on the way, if you take the 10. they have their Wing Over (previously Hammerhead) barleywine and variants on tap. fresh Betty IPA is tasty and they do crowlers and bottles i doubt Parabola will hit PS by this weekend. usually takes a few weeks to hit So Cal, even though we are only a few hours form the brewery. i'm a fan of Coachella Valley brewing. i always visit when I'm out there if you go to Bruery, Noble and Bottle Logic on the same day I hope someone else is driving cheers!
If your able to stop in Palm Desert, I would say the TotalWine should have Sucaba but I would call before you go. I was there in early January and they had A LOT of Firestone 19, while here in OC when it was released early Dec? It goes quick.
Coachella Valley Brewing Co. is definitely worth the visit. I also saw some Sucaba at Total Wine Palm Desert recently and plenty of FW19. Hangar 24 Pugachev's is also around which is damn good.
If you do make the drive to The Bruery, stop at Mr. Ks. This liquor store will have most anything you desire and many more. He is located just outside The Bruery off Orangethorpe.
Thanks everyone for nice advice. Lucky for me I have a DD with my pregnant wife. Also convinced her to stay one night in Orange County so will hit up a few more spots.
Sucaba should still be around, ditto above, Bevmo and TW. Whole Foods has about 20 drafts and decent food, and you can buy anything you want from the store and drink it at bar. Bristol Farms used to get all the FW releases, but haven't been there in a few years, ( used to work down street) .
Just got back from Rancho Mirage ( palm Springs ) TW and WF palm desert both had plenty of Sucaba on the shelf. $15.99 at WF and $16.99 at TW
Wasn't really a fan of Coachella Valley Brewing, but I would recommend checking out La Quinta Brewing. They have a nice coffee porter (Koffi Porter, check out the Koffi shop as well), and a b.a. version as well.
I think it's El mexicali but I could be wrong. What's the place with soy sauce on the table? Their shrimp in an avocado is great
To add to the above mentioned questions, and some other threads that talked about drive times...I'm staying in Palm desert/Springs area in October, ok with driving 2.5 hrs to get to areas where more breweries are located towards coast. My question is: is it realistic to make it a day trip and not get slammed with traffic? If there is a high chance of a 2 hour 1 way trip journey being 3.5 hrs 1 way, I may not go. Either way I will def hit up all shops, and local desert breweries. It would have to be a weekday for the coastal excursion due to timeshare and flights etc..thanks in advance fellow BAs!
Tough call. I don't mind driving from north OC down to Alpine/SD area to pick up bottles and have a few. But I always try to make it back before the heavy traffic hits. The drive for me is about 2 hours. You will have an issue driving back to PS area from LA/OC. The 91 Frwy is a mess with all the construction going on in and around Corona. So add traffic to that in the afternoon and early evening and it's worse. The 60 & 10 frays will be a mess with everybody or most trying to avoid 91. I'd say between 3-7pm would be the worse time to be driving east on any of those mentioned frwys. If you do go then maybe hang tight and sober up till evening. Makes for a very long day.
It's totally realistic. I make this drive weekly. My advice is to leave PS early and return later in the evening to avoid traffic. Driving to SD is the easiest, less traffic both ways. OC is only 1.5 hours away from PS, but there will be a ton of traffic on the way back if you return around 3-7pm, same with LA.
