hey I'm new to ba and wanted to see if anyone can help me out. Taking a beer trip to philly for the day next week. We made a plan of breweries and bottle shops to hit throughout the day. Was wondering if anyone has anything to add or some info on the places we are going. Some we weren't able to make it out to the last time we did it.

    Breweries: neshaminy creek
    Tired hands
Yards ( big let down last time)
    La colombe distillery and coffee
    Bottle shops: Bottle bar east
    Bottle shop
    Local 44
    Craft beer outlet
    Monde market
    Corner foodery
    Brew/ultimo coffee
    Hawthorne biercafe
The beer store in bucks county
If anyone thinks there something we should hit along the way. Last time we went to beer heaven and it was crazy overpriced. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Why go back to Yard's? So many other places to visit. Might help to know where you are traveling from, btw.

I vote for a visit to Federal Donuts. :sunglasses:

Tired hands is a must. Try to hit a few well established good craft beer bars like monks or memphis taproom. Solid chance between the two you might score some Pliny. Absolutely you will get a wonderfully curated beer list with beer you won't find anywhere else.

I appreciate you acknowledge that you are new here and further appreciate that you put your query into the appropriate forum, however I would humbly suggest that you do a simple search and all of your answers have been answered 100 times in the last few months. I guess on the basis of generating content that a simple sticky will never happen on this question.

I'd suggest hitting Northern Liberties Beer first. Good selection and one of, if not the best priced bottle shop in the city. @tedgelee , the owner, is pretty knowledgeable too. I'd avoid going to Bottle Bar East and Hawthorne on price alone. They really **** you there. If you're going outside of the city for bottle shops, check out Trenton Road Takeout. Along with good price and nice selection, they also have 6 draft lines for growlers that are consistently cheaper than The Beer Store in Southampton (I avoid this place because of the greedy practices: http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/beer-store-in-malvern.209440/page-2. The link is for the new location in Malvern, but they do the same thing in Southampton.)

I highly recommend Alla Spina for Happy Hour. Great HH deal there and get anything on nitro there.

Don't forget to checkout PhillyTapFinder.com if you're looking for any specific beer on draft. Enjoy Philly!

Agree with Al... definitely hit up:

    Breweries:
    - Tired Hands
    - Forest and Main (if you want to go a bit outside of the city)

    Bottle Shops:
    Northern Liberties Beer
Bottle Bar East (Great selection but pricey. You can open any bottle and drink at the bar/tables which is nice. Good food too)

    Bars:
    Monk's
Eulogy (If you like Belgian beers)

And PhillyTapFinder is the way to go to find what beers you want on tap.

If you are going only for the day, your list requires a lot of travel time to and from different areas, I would pare down the list to maybe 2-3 areas to avoid having to log that many miles.

I back up Forest and Main. I have loved every beer I've had there and the atmosphere is awesome. Local 44 is my go to spot when I stop into philly. They usually have a good draft list and the bottle shop prices are the best around as well as the selection. The beer shoppe in ardmore is pretty decent too if you head to Tired Hands. I'd stay away from the fooderies unless you are stuck near them and feel like paying 4-10$ more than beers at local 44.

Are you staying overnight? If so, in the city or not?

Nope. Takes about an hour and a half to get there so last time we started with neshaminy creek as they opened at 12. Went all over from there and ended with tired hands close to 9. That was our first time so we had no clue what was really close or out of the way. No rush to get back, just want to come back with some good brews and check out Monks which we neglected last time. We went to broken goblet which was pretty cool since it was only a mile away from neshaminy.

    In the city:

Brauhaus Schmitz - German beer haven
Devil's Den - American craft, sours, euros etc
Standard Tap - Great bar, and next door is The Foodery
Khyber Pass - Divey, with good beer and food
Victoria Freehouse - UK style pub

    Philly suburbs:

    Vault Brewing - Yardley
    Hulmeville Inn

    NJ:

Super Buy Rite - Pennington - Best bottle shop in the area
Pizzeria UNO - Hamilton - Close to 20 rotating craft beers on tap every day

I did this exact trip not too long ago. Memphis Taproom then Monk's then Tired Hands. It was a great day!

How was Neshaminy Creek? I have been thinking about taking a trip down there one weekend.

I enjoyed it. Went on a Sunday right when they opened on a rainy day so they weren't busy but it was a fun time. The guys that work there really love what they do and gave us plenty of samples. They had a ba barleywine called concrete pillow and we were able to snag some bottles of thier ba pumkin which was amazing. Cool little spot and they have a food truck on the weekends.
