I am retired to Nice, France. There is finally a growing craft beer scene and several local breweries.

Yeah, my native area touches a Great Lake, yet is lumped in with Maryland in the Mid-Atlantic. It's difficult making regional distinctions using state borders as the guide, but there's no other realistic way to do it.

The Great Lakes region includes Ohio and Wisconsin, which makes sense, but pairing Illinois with Wisconsin is disappointing.

They both touch an actual Great Lake, as do Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and New York.

It is a war that began a long time ago. It is a battle that I experience with every BMW SUV that travels past me going north on I-43 at over 100 miles per hour.

Seems like you can be in either Great Lakes or Midwest, or create a new BA region (which is likely not happening). South Canada is obviously wrong. Seeing as Wisconsin touches two of the Great Lakes, as @BBThunderbolt notes, it seems like a no-brainer to include you there. What you really need to do is annex the UP…

This is absolutely correct. I would include Mackinac Island.

That is geographically correct. Bodies of water connect us, but our culture and use of vowels separate us.

A large percentage of them talk like we do, and cheer for the Green Bay Packers. It seems like a natural fit. I suppose many people in Wisconsin would like to table this discussion, as long as certain things are legal in Michigan, but not Wisconsin.

Considering one of the Great Lakes is literally 2 blocks from my house, I think that is accurate.

UP was originally supposed to be part of Wisconsin, but when Ohio "won" the Toledo War, Michigan's compensation was the UP.

I remember when that happened. That was a 2014 NFL season NFC championship game-level disappointment.

So if your region wins, do all the other regions have to send beer to the voters from the winning region?
    Asking for a friend.
And if the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region doesn't win, please disregard this post.

Well, it's not strictly population. For the whole USA in terms of just population, , CA always wins just because it is so big. TX is next, then FL. So, what's up with FL & craft beer / Beer Advocate? FL is #3 in population and #9 on BA and barely ahead of Minnesota.

I'd be interested to pull out the stats for average income per state.
