Doesn't BA already have this info?

    Also: If you vote
You don’t even know where you are?!?
    You guessed right
BA probably does but I don’t know that it’s accessible.

There will be a difference between registered users, active users, and users who would answer a forum poll.

I’d love to see those threads but I don’t know what keywords I would use to find them.

    Kiribati.

There’s always that guy mentioning about it in any given threads, but you may have a shitload of threads to skim through.

Oh, if you’re talking about @BBThunderbolt‘s place of residence, we already covered that here (and in several responses).

I just don’t know what search terms I would use to find previous threads about geographic locations of BA members—I tried a couple searches but quickly gave up. Easier just to start a new one and I love using the polling feature. If only it could generate the results in the form of a pie chart…

I haven't posted my annual breakdown in years, where top user locations were highlighted, and I did a top 10 countries breakdown in February 2023 and an age breakdown in 2019. There's been more and other data posted within various threads over the years.

But I did build an internal page a while back for my own curiosity that generates a complete breakdown in seconds. For example, using the same tool as the 2023 breakdown, here are the top 10 countries and 10 US states based on users who entered their location and were active (logged in) within the last year.

    No Location | 31.41%

    Countries:
    1. United States | 62.75%
    2. Canada | 1.85%
    3. United Kingdom | 0.78%
    4. Australia | 0.25%
    5. Netherlands | 0.22%
    6. Germany | 0.21%
    7. Belgium | 0.18%
    8. Sweden | 0.17%
    9. Spain | 0.14%
    10. Ireland | 0.11%
    US States:
    1. California | 5.91%
    2. Pennsylvania | 4.69%
    3. Massachusetts | 4.69%
    4. New York | 4.31%
    5. Illinois | 4.01%
    6. Texas | 3.2%
    7. Florida | 2.41%
    8. New Jersey | 2.38%
    9. Ohio | 2.36%
    10. Virginia | 1.93%
I'm considering some form of 2023 breakdown that would be posted early next year.

Some interesting stats so far (I’ll post an update if numbers change significantly):
    • Great Lakes has 19.4% representation in the poll but represents 15.8% of the U.S. population
    • Mid-Atlantic has 22.6% representation in the poll but represents 18.1% of the U.S. population
    • New England has 9.7% representation in the poll but represents 4.5% of the U.S. population
    • Collectively, these three regions have 51.7% representation in the poll but represent 24.2% of the U.S. population
Population numbers based on Wikipedia/U.S Census

I’m sure there is some relationship to population, but I would expect there to be densities of BA users in areas known for good beer. New England, Michigan, PacNW, California.

That would be my guess but I could be totally wrong.

Overrepresentation in some places = underrepresentation elsewhere. I haven’t put together numbers for the Northwest and Pacific regions yet, but my educated guess is that they are underrepresented in the poll relative to population (despite the fact that a lot of great beer is produced in these regions).

Another interesting stat would be regional representation in the poll relative to barrels of beer produced—but we don’t have a large enough sample of votes yet (and might never have it) for those numbers to be meaningful. And I’d have to spend a lot of time crunching those numbers, assuming I could find a by-state breakdown of beer production (I assume this info exists but I haven’t looked for it).

Eastern U.S. residents seem to vastly outweigh western U.S. and non-U.S. members.

If I were to guess which state has the most amount of members, (at least currently active) I would guess Pennsylvania.

Currently, California is #1 and Pennsylvania is #2 when looking at users who've logged in within the last year.

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/poll-where-do-you-live.674814/page-2#post-7865115

If we look at the last 30 days:
    1. California | 6.31%
    2. Massachusetts | 5.48%
    3. New York | 5.38%
    4. Pennsylvania | 5.35%
    5. Illinois | 5.22%
    6. Texas | 3.12%
    7. New Jersey | 3.11%
    8. Ohio | 2.64%
    9. Florida | 2.61%
    10. Minnesota | 2.41%

I’ve gotten the same sense. Here’s some more data:
    • Pacific has 9.1% representation in the poll but represents 12.1% of the U.S. population
    • Northwest has 4.0% representation in the poll but represents 4.4% of the U.S. population
    • Mountain has 6.1% representation in the poll but represents 4.2% of the U.S. population
Poll numbers are changing (I posted this less than 24 hours ago) so these discrepancies could also still change if we get a lot more votes.

The definitions for the Great Lakes and Midwest regions are typically too broad. I was not sure how to vote. The Dakotas, Minnesota, and Wisconsin should have their own region, known as South Canada.

Each region has defined states. You are in the Great Lakes region according to BA.
