I'm visiting Portland in a couple months for the first time. I won't have a car and am staying downtown. I have a bunch of breweries/beer bars on my list, but there just isn't time to see everything. I'll be on foot and don't want to spend a lot for cabs (I've heard public transportation is easy to do but many of the routes I've looked up thus far only show a bus, not a train/light rail...and I'm not a fan of buses), so I'll mostly be downtown/Pearl district, then east to places like Commons and Cascade. Probably won't make it to Gigantic because of that. My list: Commons, Cascade, 10 Barrel, Deschutes, Bailey's Taproom--all of these for sure. What I'd like to know is--are these ones worth it: Bridgeport, The Big Legrowlski, PINTS, Rogue, Burnside, Base Camp, Hair of the Dog. THANKS!
Take a look through this thread, and then you can ask some more detailed questions: http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/visiting-portland-spring-2015-update.276595/
I would say Cascade and Hair of the Dog are the two biggest priorities. Anything after that is icing.
Someone put up a PDX taplist. What Would You Order must continue. To the OP: props for showing you did some research and had questions about specific spots instead of the typical vague "where should I go?"
I gotcha covered. Hi @leahbeth40 Welcome to the northwest forum, and congrats on visiting the best beer city in the country. You made the right choice. Since we were welcoming and offered you awesome advice on what to do in this lovely town, you have been hand selected to play a little game with us. It's called "What Would You Order?" *cue the nickelodeon tv game music* The Rules: I post a tap list from a random PDX establishment and you get to tell us what you would order. There is not one right answer, but there are definitely wrong answers. Ready? Lets play! This week we have the a very stellar tap list from the always venerable Growler Guys! They are a lovely establishment in SE portland, and it would be wise for you to stop there for a pint. (You're welcome @TaborTime ) The tap list: http://www.thegrowlerguys.com/whats-on-tap/oregon-portland/ Now, (Say it with me folks): WHAT WOULD YOU ORDER?! Edit: please note that the prices next to beers are for 64 oz growler fills and not for pints. We ain't Boston.
As always, I'd go for that Seizoen Bretta from Logsdon. But, that barrel-aged Moose and Squirrel would surely tempt me.
THANKS, everyone! Very helpful info here. I appreciate it. Something tells me I'm going to enjoy my stay in Portland...
If you're in NW part of town I would also suggest Lucky Lab (1945 NW Quimby St) for whole Portland experience. Cheers and all the best.
I'm not sure why you're averse to riding the bus, but I will say that avoiding them will significantly limit your options or make for some rather long walks. FWIW, unless you get way out past 82nd ave (east) the buses are clean, safe, and pretty reliable. They are also GPS tagged so you can use google maps and pick the transit option and it'll show you where/when to get on and off.
I agree, getting around pdx with max, streetcar and buses is super easy, cheap and safe. download pdxbus app too
I would skip growlerski and check out the upper lip, above bailey's Taproom. Also note most of the places here post their real-time tap-list on their website or on Twitter.
I'm just not a bus person. I don't mind the light rail/trams, etc. But I try to avoid the bus whenever possible. It seems there are around a dozen places within walking distance, and I'll be there for less than 4 days and am also doing some sightseeing. So I should be plenty busy. Thanks for your input!
