I am wondering at what point is it considered a bad trader. I will not mention a name right now but I was trying to trade 2 beers for a BC Reserve and I told the trader I only had one and I would try to get another. I got another the next day and asked if he wanted to do it and his exact words were: Ya of course. Want to keep it simple or expand ? That was at 513 PM yesterday and then I see him post that he is looking for this beer I was going to trade him for a lesser quality beer. I sent him a trade request and my address and he went silent. Today I sent him a note trying to get his address and he tells me something came up and he could not do it. And he deleted my trade request. Probably got it for less than what he wanted to trade me for since he put that up after what I thought we had agreed to. So this is my last response to him: Even though you told me above ; Ya of course. Want to keep it simple or expand ? I do not understand. I went out and got another for this trade. That sounds to me like you agreed to the trade. SO is this a bad trader or just a shady dude?
He told me Ya of Course at 513 then posts at 541 looking for the same beer I was going to trade with for a lesser beer. Needed to clarify that! And now he has gone back and deleted his post from yesterday. Sketchy dude.
You should read the rules regarding Starting a Bad Trader thread This does not meet the criteria. But the guy on your "Do not trade list" and move on
I wouldn't say bad trader, just someone I wouldn't want to trade with. I think you nailed it in terms of him being shady/sketchy. I had a guy verbally agree to a trade in messages and then he slowly strung me along. Ultimately, he backed out. When I called him out on his flakiness, he didn't respond and permanently left the conversation. People like that go on my personal keep an eye out/DNT trade ASAP.
@lupercmda First off, this should probably have been posted in the general trading talk forum - there are specific guidelines for starting a bad trader thread and this doest meet them. See: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/how-to-create-a-bad-trader-thread.258091/ With regards to the issue of you picking up the beer - by the way you phrased it, it seems like it was more of a "I'll see if I can get the beer and if so we'll discuss" rather than a "I know I can get this beer so lets agree on a trade now". I think you were right to keep it with no commitment because is seems like you didn't know for sure if you could get the beer. The lack of commitment at this stage seems further supported by the fact that when you got the bottle and let him know he asked if you wanted to: At that point, you're still in the process of working out the trade details. That is not an agreed upon trade - thats negotiating. Additionally he never accepted the trade request so even according to BA no trade was formalized that could be addressed by the bad trade forum. Look, it sucks, the guy flaked. But the way I see it, you put him on your no-trade list and move on.
This. It definitely sucks but it sounds like the trade wasn't fully locked in. You did buy beer for him, but the way you describe it it doesn't seem like he asked you to do so or that he agreed to a trade before you bought the bottle (since you asked him if he agreed after the fact). It's annoying, but not really grounds for labeling him a bad trader according to the rules.
