    A few days ago I bought a bottle of "Donkey Lady" from Texian brewery. I recently drank it and I wanted to review it but it says that "rating disabled" because the brewery is closed. My personal feeling is that as long as people can buy and drink the beer why shouldn't you be able to rate or review it, but it might be for good reason?

    However, you can still review it in the forums of course, and I am wondering if there are such threads and if not if there is any interest?

    I assume since the brewery is closed they ended reviews for this one and left it as is for archives. Really no reason to keep adding new reviews since the beer is not being made. If you want to see about opening it back up I would message @Todd to check and see if its possible?
    Cheers

    I have to disagree. If stores are selling the beer and customers are buying it (and maybe it is being traded) reviews have a value.

    This has been discussed many times before. Several reasons for allowing reviews for beers of closed breweries;
    • Ticking, for those that do.
    • Recording your thoughts for your own future reference.
    • Providing reviews for those who may also still have some or may find some.
    • Provide ongoing record as it ages.
    • Potential that the brewery or their beers/recipes are picked up by another brewery and the beer brought back.
    The main reason against is the obvious "if the brewery is gone and beers dropped, what's the point". Some of the above may answer that for some folks. Beers that have officially been dropped by an active brewery can still be reviewed, though I suppose there is always the possibility that it will be brought back.

    I was not aware that it had been discussed as much already. Even though I personally think that reviews for beers that have been retired because the brewery closed are valuable, and that it would be nice to review them. I also understand that updating the site to allow for it is associated with a cost. That's why I was thinking that we could have a thread specifically for reviewing beers that we cannot review (the usual way). But perhaps I should take that point to one of the previously existing threads.

    I guess I can see the point on reviewing ageable beers that are hanging around so people will be aware of the "sweet spot" but I don't think anyone is buying that beer and aging it. The fact it is still on the shelf is because it didn't sell that well when it was released. Texian announced that Fulbrook Ale Works (who took over their space) was going to continue to produce their beers but they have been radio silent since the announcement last August.

    I can think of some examples where the beers sold reasonable well and the closing was a surprise - Pretty Things comes to mind.
