Extremely generous of you! I am not bemoaning what I have access too, I am constantly stocked with Rothaus pils, Kapuziner hefeweizen and Faust hefeweizen, as well as a few beers from smaller breweries such as Freigeist. However, I do miss ipas! In the US I get tired of them after a while, but here where they are few and far between I find myself craving them from time to time.

    cheers
    Don

I live in the Triad area of North Carolina. We have several breweries in the area now, and more to come. We have Natty Greene's(Greensboro), Foothills(Winston Salem), and Pig Pounder(Greensboro). Pig Pounder recently opened, I have not been able to stop in yet, to try their beers, but I hear from a friend they have a nice selection. North Carolina is really ramping up with great breweries. My favorite in the state is Duck Rabbit. Man, they make some really good beers. They make mostly dark beers.

Alright, Portland Maine. For anyone who has traveled here, you are aware that we are not a big city. The downtown area is only a couple of miles in any direction, and maybe 10 miles to get to the outskirts of the city proper, within those 10 miles though, is a goldmine of beer:

    Allagash Brewing
    Bissell Brothers
    Foundation
    Austin Street
    Banded Horn
    Bunker
    Geary's
    Gritty's
    In'finiti
    Peak Organic
    Shipyard
    Seadog
    Rising Tide
    Sebago

For a city with only 66,000 residents, that's a pretty impressive line up. Combine this with Maine Beer Company, 15 minutes north in Freeport, and the 29 other breweries and brewpubs in the state of Maine, and the best beer culture I've encountered in any state, I am a happy camper.

You should check out Burley Oak and Evolution those are two awesome Breweries you may be missing out on. My brother lives in MD and sends me their stuff up often.

The local brewing scene I know best is in Athens, GA, so I'll talk about that. It's great for a number of reasons, but I absolutely love the level of community involvement. One brewery hosts the farmer's market, the other does fundraisers for the zoo. All are real involved with local restaurants. One does multi-course tasting menus with different restaurants on occasion. It's the small town community feeling that you miss out on in bigger markets, but the offerings are stil pretty damn good.

Ok, well living in San Diego, there are a lot of breweries to be desired here. I enjoy Stone Brewing, Ballast Point, Societe, Lost Abbey, Alesmith, Alpine Beer, Green Flash, Rip Current, Belching Beaver, Pizza Port(Port Brewing) has a nice selection around here, Mother Earth, Mike Hess, Iron Fist and Modern Times to name a few.
I love living in San Diego, so many good beer places to go.

Yeah, I wrote this real late at night and totally forgot about Evolution. They are great and have started a sour program, which I love them for. I just seem to forget about them, because there is never anything new from them (or at least not that often). They make great stuff, but there is just so much else to try. I always talk about Burley Oak on here, I just didn't explicitly name them in my post (I bolded my allusion to them).

Now you summed up everything with MD. Have to say I love Evolution's barrel program and would love to see more barrel aged beers and sour from them.

Been eyeing this thread for a bit and noticed no one from LA -

Sure there are many dope breweries in the South Bay making some noise and way out in the OC - but i am here to say some good words about Golden Road - sure they're offerings are just a bit above average but he work Tony and Meg put in for LA scene is unmatched. Almost leaves me wondering if they even sleep. Cheers to them. The official beer of the Angels!

Being in Delaware I am basically between Maryland and Pennsylvania so the only big state locals I have are Iron Hill and DFH, but I feel I should talk about Philly area breweries because they are closer than places like DFH. Tired Hands is on'y 40 minutes away and is incredible. Victory, Yards and Weyerbacher are also very good.
