Nice! I know the brewers are probably real excited about this one haha.

If you like Rauchbier, you have to try this.

    I took a chance on 2 four-packs and I'm glad I did.

I’m having a can of this right now and really enjoying it. As you said, very smooth and the smoke is pleasant and present without being too much. I’m too lazy to regularly review beers but I would definitely pick up more of this if I see it.

It's not just you that tastes ham in some smoked beers. It's a pretty standard description for many Rauchbiers, some people just enjoy it, while the vast majority of people do not, unfortunately lol. I would personally say this smoked helles leans more towards a gentle campfire smoke instead of that meaty, ham flavor. Not trying to convince you to start liking Rauchbier, just my 2 cents.

Don't you think the people who "taste" ham, or bacon in Rauchbier, are just equating the smoke character to the only other smoked product they've consumed?

To me, ham or bacon -- even ribs, have more salt and grease to their flavors and those are characters I don't get in Rauchbier.

Yeah, you're probably right. Smoke can impart a wide range of flavors into a wide range of things, and that's probably why Rauchbier is the best style of beer in the world, imo. But if ham is what you think of when you taste Rauchbier, then that's what you taste, and I think it's always best to be as honest as possible when describing what you're tasting. Never be afraid to use weird descriptors when describing beer. If that's what you taste, that's what you taste.

    Report from ground zero:

Four of Harts off cask, very nice. Complex and smooth without being overwhelming.

Helles literally took me back to Munich -- very malty smooth and flavorful while also being laid back and crazy drinkable.

All Set "blonde ale" was the night's surprise -- a cross between an APA, Kölsch, and Pilsner with a great balance between hops and crackery malts. A great definition of brewing innovation without using flavor additives to hide the beer. Sublimely quaffable.

Prosit to Lane and Ryan for brewing some great beers!

If you shop at the McHenry Binny's, just go to the brewery. It can't be more than 25 minutes.
The Crystal Lake Binny's usually has beer from Roaring Table.

Grabbed some today. Canned 11-19 -- tasting outstanding.

This beer is #4 in BA ratings for its style? Nice.

With 14 total ratings, perhaps a grain of salt here? Not shitting on the beer itself...I have it rated higher than it's average.
