Coastal Extreme Brewing (aka Newport Storm) does some barrel-aged beers from their in-house rum distillery Thomas Tew rum. Pretty interesting stuff.

Just tonight at Portland's Holiday Ale Fest I had Bear Republic's Rum Pirate Stout. If you like the burnt molasses taste of blackstrap rum, it's for you. I very much enjoyed it.

I quite like Pirate Bomb! Also, Rumpkin is very good.

If you like rum, there are possibly some good ones available. Why involve beer in this at all?

Another vote for Rum King. They have made more of it the last couple of years so not that hard to trade for either.

Although I love me some Pirate Bomb, it isn't very easy to get. It was too hot for me when fresh, but near perfect after a couple in the cellar.

I'm a big fan of Slumbrew's Yankee Swap. Different styles every year. Always aged in rum barrels.

Get yourself some Clown Shoes Hammer of the Holy...it did a nice job of highlighting the rum and is half of the Very Angry Beast that was mentioned earlier

Thanks everyone for the advise. Put up a trade for rumking for a bourbon County. ..

Heavy Seas Yule Tide.. it's usually a different style each year, I think, but it's always aged in Jamaican rum barrels.. it's in season now too and is usually $7.99 a bomber, which is great for a barrel aged brew.. I think this years is a Weizen Doppelbock, haven't tried it.. but a couple years ago it was a Red Ale and it was awesome..

I'd tuck it away for a year then bring it back out, it mellows with age quite nicely. I love Bourbon so for me the barrel influence is never a distraction.
