Looking for some recommendations on the best scotch ales that can be found in the NW.

I've tried silver city's fat scotch ale, as well as one from Bellvue Brewing, Boundary Bay, and Pike's Kilt Lifter. Also had Hales Wee heavy from last year.

One of my faves is by a Texas brewery called Real Ale, but you can only but it in Texas.

I like em strong and sweet.

I don't care where it was brewed as long as I can find it in Seattle.

    Recommendations? What is your favorite?

Across the lake, Geaux in Bellevue has a pretty great wee heavy and pretty great everything else for that matter. No bottles or cans yet but they do crowlers. Can't really think of any other good sweet scotch ales around here. I definitely recommend Belhaven's Wee Heavy, which I only remember seeing at Total Wine but I'm sure can be found elsewhere.

Find a friend in Missoula and have them send you some Cold Smoke by Kettle House Brewing. My favorite local (?) Scotch Ale.

You should try Splinters by Black Raven. It can be an overpowering bourbon flavor, but that's what I like about it. I imagine it's still easy to find, but if not they still have bottles of it at the brewery in Redmond and also bottles of the base beer, Second Sight.

Maybe try the Scotch Ale from American (I'm forgetting the name).

Huge fan of the Brasserie de Silly Cognac Barrel Scotch Silly. Boozy and sweet, but not overpoweringly so. Dieu du Ciel's Equinox du Printemps is also fantastic. I'm a fan of Oskar Blues Old Chubb as well. Haven't yet tried the Fort George Plaid, the Boulevard Snow and Tell, or Alesmith's Wee Heavy (but Alesmith seems to do everything right for my tastes).

Not sure if it's available up your way, but Claim 52 here in Eugene has a killer, BA scotch ale/wee heavy called Glasgow Kiss. The abv. is around 10%, and it's rich and sweet (sounds like it would be right up your alley). I think it comes in a 375 or 500 ml bottle with a wax covered cap, so you know it's a "serious" beer!

I think Plaid by Ft George fits the bill.

Wee Heavy by Alesmith is pretty available. And if you want to drop some serious coin, go get yourself a BA Wee Heavy. Way expensive but really really good

John, by any chance have you seen Glasgow Kiss up here in Portland? My wife enjoys wee heavy ales, and I'd love to add a bottle to her birthday loot.

That Claim 52 is quite good. Aged for nine months in Knob Creek Bourbon Barrels. But they only released 400 bottles.

No, but it's not the sort of thing I would be looking for up you way.

When is your wife's birthday? The fiancé and I will be up in PDX this weekend, so if I can find a bottle down here, it would be easy enough to get it to you I think.

IMHO, it's the best thing Claim 52 has ever put out. Admittedly, they've really upped their game over the last year, but even so, the Glasgow Kiss is pretty amazing. I remember trying it at a bottle share down here, and my immediate reaction was "holy shit, this is fantastic. Who in the world made this (and where can I get some)?"

It's one of my favorite styles! I would like to see more of it in the NW. I'd appreciate any suggestions for central OR (Bend).

I've been keeping an eye on Claim 52 since I had their Voyager. Recently picked up the latest bottling of Olivia 9... Both of those are Bourbon barrel aged, too.

Don't want to turn this thread into Claim 52 "love in," but as I mentioned, they've really upped their game over the past year. All of the barrel aged beers I've had from them have been impressive, and I think they've sold well (the Olivia 9 was on tap around town as recently as a couple weeks ago, and it sold quickly every place that had it). Also, in addition to the taproom here in Eugene, they now have an outpost over in Springfield as well.

It's in a great location and the place has done well since it first opened.

Pike does a BA version of Kilt Lifter, too.

Yesterday I had a very nice Black Raven Scotch Ale on tap in Seattle. Don't know if it was barrel aged, but I doubt it. Nonetheless, it was a smooth and quality ale.

No need, but many thanks for the offer. I think my wife would love the Olivia 9 beer which @JouerAvecLeFeu mentioned, and it looks like that one is available at Belmont Station.
